This guide covers Digimon Masters Online (the global/GameKing version on Steam): picking your Tamer and partner, how hatching, digivolution and attributes work, how to level efficiently, the current Season Pass and events, what the Crown shop is worth, and where the endgame is as of the September 2026 patches.
Researched September 2026 — current as of the 22 September 2026 update (Season 16 Pass, Belphemon dungeon). Live games change; check the linked sources if something differs.
Status: DMO is live and free-to-play, with updates most weeks, usually on a Wednesday. The global version has been run by GameKing since 2016 (Joymax ran it from 2011 to 2016), and the game is developed by movegames. A Unity remaster was announced in June 2022 for the second half of 2023 but hadn't released as of August 2026, so don't hold off on playing because of it. The Steam page isn't available in every region.
Quick Start
- Your partner Digimon is your main investment. Pick the starter whose evolution line you like. You'll level it for a long time and it defines your early game.
- Learn the attribute triangle. Vaccine beats Virus, Virus beats Data, Data beats Vaccine. Hitting with advantage makes a big difference to your damage.
- Do the main quest line. Story quests give most of your early EXP and unlock maps, evolution stages and systems in order.
- Mercenaries come from eggs. Enemies drop Digi-Eggs. You inject data into them at an incubator to hatch extra Digimon, and a better hatch gives better size and stats.
- Don't sell event currency. Event tokens (currently Autumn Maple Leaf and Token of Strength) are exchanged at NPCs for gear and consumables before the event ends.
- Check dungeon entry limits. Since 2 September 2026, Kaiser's Laboratory is capped at 8 entries a day, and Neverland and Dark Web at 4 each. Plan your dailies around this.
- Log in during attendance events. The 22 September to 7 October 2026 attendance event gives Moonlight Dungeon Tickets and Breakthrough Option Dice.
- The Season Pass free track is worth doing even if you don't pay. Season 16 runs from 2 September to 21 October 2026.
- Treat Crown summons as optional. Crowns are the premium currency, summons are random, and you can progress through the story without them.
Getting Started
Tamers and starting partners
You pick a Tamer from the Digimon Data Squad cast and a starter partner. The four classic Data Squad partners are Agumon, Gaomon, Lalamon and Falcomon, matching the original four Tamers. Later updates and the shop added more Tamers and partner options, so check the character-creation screen for what's currently available.
What matters:
- Tamer skills give buffs and utility. Tamer choice is mostly flavour plus a small buff difference.
- Partner line decides your early damage type, attribute and evolution tree. Pick a line you'll enjoy levelling. Every starter can clear the story.
The core loop
Stage | What you do
Early levels | Main quests, first maps, unlock your partner's next evolutions
Mid game | Hatch mercenaries, fill your Archive, start dungeons and raids
Late game | Endgame dungeons (Kaiser's Laboratory, Neverland, Dark Web, Shadow Labyrinth), gear enhancement, Skill Memory, raid bosses
Current endgame | Seven Demon Lords dungeons. The newest is Sanctuary of the Seven Demon Lords: Belphemon (22 September 2026)
Core Systems
Attributes
Attribute | Strong against | Weak against
Vaccine | Virus | Data
Virus | Data | Vaccine
Data | Vaccine | Virus
Keep a mercenary of each attribute in your Archive so you can swap to the one with advantage for bosses and dungeons. That's the cheapest damage boost in the game.
Digivolution
Your partner levels up and unlocks higher evolution stages through levelling and quests. You can switch between unlocked forms in combat. Higher forms hit harder but cost more Digi-soul (DS). Some lines include special evolutions such as armor evolutions with Digi-Eggs, and the game includes most of the Crests from the anime. Practical rules:
- Use your highest efficient form for grinding and your strongest form for bosses.
- Watch DS. Running out mid-fight drops your damage hard.
- Follow each line's unlock quests. Several stages won't unlock from level alone.
Hatching mercenaries
Eggs drop from monsters across the maps. At an incubator you inject data into the egg. Each injection can fail, and more successful injections mean a better result (bigger hatch size and better starting stats). Beginner advice:
- Hatch whatever you can early to fill the Archive and try different lines.
- Once you've settled on a long-term mercenary, save your protective consumables for its hatch rather than spending them on throwaway eggs.
Archive and team
Your Digimon Archive stores your mercenaries. You'll swap between them for attribute matchups and different content. A levelled partner of each attribute, plus a strong main, is a solid mid-game roster.
Gear, enhancement and Skill Memory
- Tamer equipment (accessories, rings, costumes) adds stats. Accessories like the new Sloth Bracelet (crafted through NPC Agumon, enhanceable to +10, needs Tamer Lv. 170+ and Digimon Lv. 150+) are the endgame chase.
- Enhancement costs a lot of currency. Eighteen pieces from three older Tamer sets (Davis, T.K. and Yolei) had their enhancement costs cut by 90% on 2 September 2026. For example, a +1 enhancement dropped from 1,375,000 to 137,500. Those sets are now a much cheaper stepping stone.
- Skill Memory gives extra combat skills. The "Regenerative Ability" Skill Memory had its cooldown raised from 30 to 45 seconds on 22 September 2026, so if your sustain depended on it, add more healing.
- Costumes from costume summons carry stat options (HP, AT or SCD on the Cat Pajama costume summon in August 2026).
Recovery items (changed in September 2026)
The 2 September 2026 patch removed 73 types of recovery item, including various breads and disks, and left 16 core recovery types. If you're coming back from an older guide, most of the old healing-item lists are out of date. Buy and farm the current core types.
Family attribute buffs
Shadow Labyrinth family attribute buffs (Warrior of Nightmare, Guardian of Heaven and the rest) were merged into one type on 2 September 2026: each now gives a unified 60% effect (up from 20%), and the buffs no longer stack. Stacking tricks from older guides no longer work.
Current Content (September to October 2026)

Autumn event | Through 21 Oct 2026 | Daily leaf quests, Maple Swordsman Musyamon raids in Silver Lake and Silent Forest. Quests from Season Pass Patamon; exchange tokens with Season Pass Gatomon (both at DATS Center); EP exchange with BanchoLeomon
Belphemon dungeon | From 22 Sep 2026 | At Flame Terminal. Digimon Lv. 170+ plus a prerequisite quest, up to 4 players. Boss: Demon Lord of Sloth Belphemon (Lv. 178)

"Gather Moonlight!" daily quest | 22 Sep to 7 Oct 2026 | Monster hunts for Moonlight Fragments
Targeting option | From 16 Sep 2026 | Set monster targeting to Nearest Distance or Top-Center Screen
Belphemon dungeon tips
- Go in with a full party of four. It's built as group content.
- Finish the prerequisite quest first, because entry is locked without it.
- Bring an attribute-advantaged Digimon and plenty of the remaining core recovery items.
- The Sloth Bracelet is the matching accessory upgrade, so plan your materials around it.
Economy and Spending
Currencies
Currency | Source | Spend on
In-game money | Drops, quests, selling | Enhancement, NPC shops, dungeon tickets from NPCs
Event tokens | Event quests and raids | Event exchange NPCs (limited time)
EP | Activities | EP exchange (currently at BanchoLeomon)
Crowns | Real money | Season Pass, summons, packages
Several dungeon entry tickets that used to come from quests now have to be bought from NPC shops (2 September 2026), so keep some money aside for them.
What's worth buying (if you spend)
- Season Pass Premium is the best value in most live games because it rewards things you'd be doing anyway. Buy it early in the season, not in the last week.
- Limited per-account packages (for example the one-time light Sealed Skill Memory package) are usually better value than repeat purchases.
- Summons (Data Summon, costume summons, pickup boxes) are random. Only buy them for a specific target and know the pity or gauge threshold first. The August costume summon guaranteed a reward at 50 summon gauge.
Free-to-play tips
- Do dailies and attendance every day. They're the steadiest source of tickets and dice.
- Put event tokens into permanent upgrades, not consumables you can farm anyway.
- Use the 90% enhancement discount on the Davis/T.K./Yolei gear to power up cheaply before the Demon Lord content.
Levelling Advice
- Main quests first, then fill gaps with side quests in your level range.
- Grind in maps where you have the attribute advantage over the common mobs.
- Use EXP boosters during events, when they stack with event rewards.
- Group for dungeons as soon as you can. Dungeon runs give better EXP and loot than solo grinding in the late game, within the daily limits.
- Don't level a mercenary you'll replace. Pick your long-term Digimon before you put boosters into them.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Following old guides for recovery items or buff stacking. Both changed on 2 September 2026.
- Wasting daily dungeon entries. Kaiser's Laboratory is 8 a day, Neverland and Dark Web 4 each.
- Ignoring attributes. Fighting at a disadvantage can make a boss feel impossible.
- Selling event tokens or letting them expire. Exchange them before the event ends (21 October 2026 for the autumn event).
- Spending Crowns on random summons without a target. Buy the pass first if you spend at all.
- Going into Belphemon under-geared or without the prerequisite quest.
- Relying on one Skill Memory for sustain after the Regenerative Ability nerf.
Advanced Tips
- Build an attribute roster. Endgame players rotate Vaccine, Data and Virus Digimon depending on the boss.
- Time your enhancements. Enhancement discounts and events come around regularly, and big gear upgrades are cheaper then.
- Plan around Wednesday maintenance. Patches usually land on Wednesdays (see the Steam update posts), so finish dailies and exchanges before then.
- Use the new targeting option. Top-Center Screen targeting helps in crowded raid fights, and Nearest Distance is better for grinding.
- Read each patch note. GameKing posts them on the official site and links them on Steam every week, and major balance changes such as entry caps and the item purge show up there first.
FAQ
Is Digimon Masters Online still active in 2026? Yes. It gets weekly updates on the global (GameKing) servers. The latest content at the time of writing is the Belphemon dungeon (22 September 2026) and Season 16 (to 21 October 2026).
Which starter Digimon is best? All of them can clear the game. Pick the evolution line you like. Attribute coverage from your mercenaries matters more in the long run.
What is the level requirement for the newest dungeon? Digimon level 170 or higher, plus a prerequisite quest, for Sanctuary of the Seven Demon Lords: Belphemon.
Why did my healing items disappear? The 2 September 2026 patch removed 73 types of recovery item. Only 16 core types remain.
Is the game pay-to-win? Crowns speed up progress through summons, packages and the premium pass, but the story and most content can be done for free. Endgame gear progresses faster if you spend.
Is the Unity remaster out? Not as of August 2026. It was announced in June 2022, targeting the second half of 2023, and still hadn't released.
