A guide to Arno Dorian's Revolutionary Paris: skills and gear priorities, combat and stealth that actually work, parkour controls, side activities, co-op, the Dead Kings expansion and PC tips.

Researched September 2026 — current as of the final PC build (Patch 5 era, 2015) plus Steam achievements, added 12 December 2024 (a separate March 2026 update brought 4K/60 fps to PS5 and Xbox Series X/S). Live games change; check the linked sources if something differs.

Quick Start

  • Combat is harder than in earlier Assassin's Creed games. Groups of enemies will kill you. Parry, dodge gunshots, and use stealth and tools to thin crowds first.
  • Enemy level matters. Enemies show a skill level (up to five). Fighting groups well above your gear level is a losing battle; come back later.
  • Your stats come from gear and skills. Gear pieces raise Health, Melee, Stealth and Ranged. Skill points (Sync points) unlock abilities.
  • Stealth now has a crouch and a cover system. Crouching lowers your profile, and snapping to cover lets you move between corners and take down enemies silently.
  • Parkour Up and Parkour Down are separate. Hold the free-run input and press the up or down modifier to climb or to descend controllably. Learning Parkour Down saves your life (and your time).
  • The Café Théâtre is your income. Renovate it and upgrade social clubs to earn passive livres.
  • Main missions are "black box" assassinations. Scout the area, look for opportunities (keys, distractions, alternate entrances), and pick your approach.
  • Initiates and Companion App chests are now free. Patch 5 (February 2015) unlocked all blue and gold chests without the external services.

Stats, Skills and Gear

Skill categories

Skills are bought with Sync points earned mainly from main-story Memories. They are grouped into four categories:

Category | What it improves

Stealth | Takedowns, stealth movement, lockpicking, disguise-style tricks

Melee | Combat moves, heavier weapons, combat abilities

Ranged | Pistol and rifle handling, throwables, Phantom Blade use

Health | Health bars and survival

Priority suggestions:

  • Health first. Extra health bars are the single biggest survival upgrade in this game.
  • Lockpicking as soon as it is available. Locked chests hold a lot of the gear and money you need.
  • Double assassination and stealth upgrades if you prefer a quiet playstyle.
  • Combat skills that improve heavy weapons and dodging if you fight often.

Gear slots

Arno equips pieces for the head, chest, forearms, waist and legs. Each piece has stats in Health, Melee, Stealth and Ranged, and many have upgrade levels.

  • Buy gear with livres, then upgrade it with Creed points earned through activities and challenges.
  • Match gear to your playstyle; a stealth build and a brawler build look very different.
  • Gear quality is shown by level up to 5 for top-tier legendary items.

Weapons

Weapon type | Notes

One-handed swords | Balanced; the default choice

Heavy weapons (axes, maces) | Big damage, slower

Long weapons (spears, polearms) | Reach and crowd control

Pistols and rifles | Ranged options; rifles hit very hard

Phantom Blade | A Hidden Blade with crossbow capabilities; silent ranged kills

Guillotine Gun (Dead Kings) | A heavy axe combined with a grenade launcher

Tools

Smoke bombs, stun bombs, cherry bombs (distraction), money pouches and poison-style bombs support stealth and escapes. Carry smoke bombs at all times; they rescue losing fights.

Combat That Works

  • Parry is your core defense. Watch for the enemy's attack indicator and parry on time, then counter.
  • Dodge gunshots and heavy attacks. Some attacks cannot be parried; roll away instead.
  • Fight at chokepoints. Doors and alleys limit how many enemies reach you at once.
  • Use a smoke bomb before a group engages. Assassinate inside the smoke.
  • Retreat is valid. Break line of sight, climb to rooftops, and use hiding spots or blend in crowds.
  • Kill gunners first. Snipers on rooftops and musket lines are what usually finish you off.

Stealth That Works

  • Scout from above with Eagle Vision. It reveals enemies through walls for a short time.
  • Enter stealth mode (crouch) near patrol routes. Your detection indicator shows how close you are to being spotted.
  • Use cover to move between corners and perform cover takedowns.
  • Follow the "black box" opportunities in main missions: stealing keys, freeing prisoners to cause distractions, or finding alternate routes can make the target easy.
  • The Phantom Blade kills silently at range. Use it on isolated lookouts before they spot you.

Parkour Controls

Unity's parkour splits into two directions:

Move | How it works

Free run | Hold the free-run input to run and navigate obstacles

Parkour Up | Hold free-run plus the up modifier to climb and vault upward

Parkour Down | Hold free-run plus the down modifier to descend controllably

Leap of Faith | Jump into hay carts and similar spots from viewpoints

Tips:

  • Use Parkour Down near ledges to avoid accidental leaps off buildings.
  • Climb to viewpoints and synchronize to reveal the map and fast-travel points.
  • Rooftops are safer than streets for traveling across districts, but snipers patrol some roofs.

Main Story Overview

  • The campaign is organized into 12 Sequences of Memories, following Arno from his youth at Versailles to the height of the Revolution.
  • Key figures include Élise de la Serre, Templar allies and enemies, and historical cameos across Revolutionary Paris.
  • You witness events such as the storming of the Bastille and the execution of King Louis XVI.
  • Occasional time anomalies send Arno briefly into other eras of Paris, including the Belle Époque and the Nazi occupation during World War II.

Side Activities

Activity | Why do it

Paris Stories | Side quests for historical figures; livres and gear

Murder Mysteries | Investigation missions: gather clues, examine bodies, accuse the right suspect

Nostradamus Enigmas | Riddles that lead you to locations across Paris and unlock a unique reward set

Co-op missions and Heists | Up to four players; heists reward big livres and gear

Chests | Normal, locked (lockpicking), and blue/gold Initiates chests (unlocked by Patch 5)

Café Théâtre and social clubs | Renovate to raise passive income

Rifts / time anomalies | Short challenges with their own rewards

Advice:

  • Upgrade the Café Théâtre early. Passive income funds every gear upgrade.
  • Do Murder Mysteries for fun and Creed points. Take your time: wrong accusations reduce your reward.
  • Heists are the best money source if you have a co-op group.
  • Nostradamus Enigmas require solving riddles; read carefully and visit the landmarks they reference.

Co-op

  • Co-op missions support up to four players and are separate from the single-player main story.
  • Heists reward stealth: remaining undetected increases your rewards.
  • Match your gear level to the mission's difficulty rating.
  • Online features run through Ubisoft Connect, which the Steam version requires.

Dead Kings Expansion

Dead Kings was released free on 14 January 2015 and is included with the game on Steam.

  • It takes Arno to Saint-Denis (Franciade), the resting place of French royalty, after the main story.
  • New story missions explore the catacombs and basilica underground.
  • Adds the Guillotine Gun, co-op missions, treasure hunts, contracts and extra Murder Mysteries.
  • Recommended after finishing the main story.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Fighting large groups head-on. Use stealth, smoke and chokepoints.
  • Ignoring health upgrades. Extra health bars matter more than damage.
  • Forgetting lockpicking. Many chests are locked and hold key upgrades.
  • Spending livres on everything. Focus gear on your playstyle.
  • Rushing black-box missions. Opportunities make targets much easier.
  • Leaping off roofs without Parkour Down. Controlled descent saves health and time.
  • Neglecting the Café Théâtre. It is your passive income.

Advanced Tips

  • Double assassinations clear pairs of guards silently; unlock them early for stealth play.
  • Use crowds as cover. Blending into groups helps you slip past patrols.
  • Chain rooftop assassinations from above to open fights with a kill.
  • Upgrade one set of gear fully rather than many sets partially.
  • Save rifles for high-level single targets; they deal heavy damage in one shot.
  • Replay Memories from the menu to complete optional objectives and earn more rewards.
  • Achievements on Steam were added in December 2024 and unlock retroactively for accomplishments already completed in your save.

PC Tips

  • The Steam version requires Ubisoft Connect to launch.
  • Performance on modern hardware is much better than at launch; if you see stutter, lower crowd-heavy settings and cap the frame rate in your driver.
  • Patch 5 (February 2015) addressed performance, connectivity and stability, fixed the "Find Leon" objective, and stopped earned weapon and equipment rewards from relocking.
