A practical guide to NetEase's 6v6 hero shooter: roles, Team-Ups, modes, ranked, the Season 10 meta, and the habits that climb.

Researched September 2026 — current as of Season 10: Butcher's Blasphemy (launched September 11, 2026; latest patch version 20260924). Live games change; check the linked sources if something differs.

Quick Start

  • Play 2-2-2 until you know better. Two Vanguards, two Duelists, two Strategists is the default composition. Teams without two healers lose most fights.
  • Learn one hero per role. Being able to fill saves games in Quick Match and Competitive.
  • Environments are destructible. Cover you're standing behind can disappear. Some maps also have rebuild-able structures and map-specific quirks.
  • Team-Ups are free power. As of Season 9 every hero has at least two Team-Up abilities regardless of who else is on the team, with enhanced effects when the linked hero is present.
  • Ultimates win fights. Track the enemy's ult usage and don't burn yours into a fight that's already won.
  • Competitive unlocks at account level 15.
  • Season 10 rank reset drops you six divisions (two full tiers). Don't panic about starting lower than you finished.
  • Play the objective. Standing on the point or payload wins; kill counts don't.

Roles

Role | Job | Beginner-friendly heroes

Vanguard (tank) | Create space, absorb damage, protect backline | Captain America, Peni Parker, Doctor Strange, Magneto, The Thing

Duelist (DPS) | Secure eliminations, pressure healers, flank | Punisher, Star-Lord, Moon Knight, Wolverine, Storm

Strategist (support) | Heal, buff, utility, sometimes damage | Mantis, Luna Snow, Rocket Raccoon, Invisible Woman, Loki

The roster is 54 heroes after Gorr the God Butcher's arrival in Season 10. 2026 additions include Devil Dinosaur and Cyclops (Season 8), Jubilee (Season 9), The Hood (Season 9.5) and Gorr (Season 10).

Game Modes

Mode | Objective

Domination | Capture and hold a central point; best of three rounds

Convoy | Escort (attack) or stop (defend) a moving payload

Convergence | Capture a point, then escort a payload

Doom Match | 12-player free-for-all

Conquest | 6v6 points-based elimination

Resource Rumble | 6v6 zone resource collection

Annihilation / Bounty Annihilation | 18v18 team deathmatch / zone control

Quick Match is unranked; Competitive is ranked. Arcade/event modes rotate each season.

Ranked

  • Tiers: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Grandmaster, Celestial, Eternity, One Above All. Most tiers have three divisions (III to I).
  • Hero bans are active from Gold and up (three per team); know two or three heroes per role so a ban doesn't delete your pool.
  • Season reset: Full seasons drop you six divisions (two tiers). Example: finishing Gold III puts you at Bronze III in Season 10.
  • Chrono Shield/protection mechanics at low ranks and after promotions can prevent a demotion loss; they don't replace good habits.
  • Penalties: NetEase added stricter penalties for inactivity, throwing and leaving matches early in 2026. Don't leave, even in lost games.

Season 10: Butcher's Blasphemy

  • New hero: Gorr the God Butcher (Duelist). Wields the Necrosword and converts defeated enemies into Black Berserkers. Stat sites list him among the stronger Duelists after launch, but new-hero win rates swing a lot in the first weeks; check a tracker before treating him as a must-pick.
  • New map: God Quarry, a Domination map, was scheduled for September 24.
  • Battle pass: Two months long with 10 skins (including Captain America, Doctor Strange, Loki and Hawkeye). Battle passes in Rivals don't expire on the season's last day the way many shooters' do; you can keep progressing them.
  • Rumored: Nightcrawler has been leaked as a mid-season Strategist but was not confirmed at the time of writing.

Season 10 balance highlights

Change | Effect

All Strategists: ultimate charge from healing reduced (about 70% to 65%) and from damage (about 55% to 50%) | Supports ult slightly less often; ult tracking matters more

Magneto: less health, longer cooldown on his Scarlet Witch Team-Up | Less oppressive frontline

Peni Parker: faster web firing, no self-slow penalty | Already strong, now stronger

Wolverine: more damage per hit | Another consecutive buff; strong into tanks

Doctor Strange, Rogue, Captain America: survivability/damage buffs | Safer ranked picks

Scarlet Witch rework: new Scarlet Hex ability and a passive that converts part of damage dealt to marked enemies into bonus health | More burst-mage playstyle

Nerfs to The Hood, The Thing and Mantis | Still viable, less dominant

A separate balance post on September 8 also touched Scarlet Witch, Black Cat and Wolverine.

Current Meta Snapshot (Season 10)

Win-rate tracking sites in late September 2026 put these near the top:

Role | Strong picks

Vanguard | Peni Parker, Doctor Strange, Captain America, Magneto (nerfed but still solid)

Duelist | Magik, Gorr, Storm, Wolverine, Rogue

Strategist | Mantis, Luna Snow, Loki, Invisible Woman

Mantis sits near the top of the all-rank tables despite her nerf. Pick based on comfort first: a 55% hero you're bad at is worse than a 49% hero you've mastered.

Hero Tips by Role

Vanguard

  • Main tank vs. off tank. One Vanguard holds space (Magneto, Doctor Strange, Peni Parker) while the other dives or peels (Captain America, Venom, Thor).
  • Use your shield on cooldown, but not wastefully. Shields are for absorbing ultimates and burst.
  • Don't overextend past your healers' line of sight.

Duelist

  • Target priority: Strategists first, then squishy Duelists, then tanks.
  • Flankers (Magik, Black Panther, Psylocke, Spider-Man) need to know when to disengage; dying on a flank puts your team in a 5v6.
  • Hitscan vs. projectile: Hitscan heroes (Punisher, Hawkeye, Hela) reward crosshair placement; projectile heroes reward leading shots.

Strategist

  • Position behind cover, not behind your tank. Tanks move; walls don't.
  • Save cleanse/immortality/defensive ults (Luna Snow, Invisible Woman, Loki) for the enemy's big ultimates.
  • Deal damage when healing isn't needed. Many Strategists have strong damage.

Team-Ups

  • Team-Up abilities appear in your kit automatically. As of Season 9 every hero has at least two, even if the partner hero isn't on your team; the linked hero upgrades them.
  • Pair heroes that already work together (e.g. Scarlet Witch with Magneto) for enhanced effects, but don't force a bad composition for a Team-Up.
  • Team-Ups are rebalanced frequently; check the in-game hero page each season.

Settings Worth Changing

Setting | Recommendation

Field of view | Raise it (higher FOV = more awareness)

Mouse acceleration | Off

Crosshair | Small, high-contrast color

Enemy highlight color | High contrast (e.g. red/yellow)

Graphics | Lower effects and post-processing for visibility and FPS

Frame rate cap | Match or exceed your monitor's refresh rate

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Running 3+ Duelists. You'll lose to any team with sustain.
  • Staggering: Walking in one-by-one after a lost fight. Regroup at spawn.
  • Using ultimates to secure one kill. Save them for team fights.
  • Ignoring the objective timer. Overtime is lost by teams that stand off the point.
  • Chasing into the enemy backline as a Strategist.
  • Leaving after one bad fight. 2026 penalties are harsher.
  • Relying on a single hero in ranked. Bans exist from Gold up.

Advanced Tips

  • Ult economy: Track which enemy ultimates are up. Strategist ult charge is slower in Season 10, so trading one defensive ult for their offensive one often wins the next fight.
  • Use destructible cover as a tool. Break the enemy's cover or preserve yours; learn which walls rebuild.
  • High ground wins fights. Flying heroes (Storm, Iron Man) punish teams that stay on the ground.
  • Swap heroes mid-match. It's allowed and often necessary to counter a flanker or tank.
  • Climb early in the season. The first week after a balance patch tends to be the easiest window to climb before others adapt.
  • Watch your own replays after losses and look for the moment the fight turned.
