A guide to taking apart the Santa Blanca cartel in Bolivia: how the campaign is structured, what to upgrade first, stealth and squad tactics, the 2026 Last Rites and Predator content, and what the 2026 anniversary update changed.

What's New in 2026
Wildlands got a surprise revival for Ghost Recon's 25th anniversary:
- Last Rites (August 2026): a free, standalone new mission set in a darker Bolivia after El Sueño's fall. You face La Llorona ("The Weeping Woman"), her cult, and a resurgent Unidad. Expect hostile environments and cult-held territory.
- The Predator returns: the crossover mission "The Jungle Moved" is back in Caimanes province.
- Technical upgrades: 60 FPS and 4K on current-gen consoles, plus new Ghost parameters that let you tune difficulty, enemy behavior, realism, HUD and weather.
- Title Update 25 (September 15, 2026) fixed longer loading times on CPUs with efficiency cores, missing Gunsmith attachments, helmets swapping in the Charactersmith, missing Latin American voices in Last Rites on Steam, and the Definitive Edition upgrade not unlocking Narco Road and Fallen Ghosts on Steam.
- An August 2026 patch also restored co-op between Steam and Ubisoft Connect players.
Quick Start
- Pick any province. Wildlands is non-linear. There are 21 provinces, each run by a buchon (a cartel boss) from one of four divisions: Influence, Security, Production, Smuggling. Province difficulty is shown in stars. Start low.
- Collect intel. Interrogate lieutenants and pick up intel documents to reveal missions, weapons, attachments and skill-point caches on the map.
- Skill points and resources both matter. Skill upgrades cost skill points and rebel resources: Food, Medicine, Fuel, Comms. Tag resource crates on your map and grab them as you pass.
- Unlock Sync Shot early. Your AI teammates (or co-op friends) take out marked targets at the same moment; upgrades raise how many targets you can assign. The recon drone plus Sync Shot is the core of stealth play.
- Do the rebel missions. They unlock Rebel Support abilities like Diversion, Mortar, rebel backup and Vehicle Drop (exact names and unlock order are listed on the rebel missions in the tactical map).
- Avoid the Unidad early. Picking fights with the corrupt police escalates alert levels until armored vehicles and helicopters show up. Wear it down later when you have better gear.
- Use the drone before every assault. Mark every enemy, alarm and mortar. Then plan your approach.
- Helicopters are the fast way around. Steal one from a military base or cartel helipad, or unlock fast travel by visiting rebel camps.
- Suppressors are everything. A suppressed rifle keeps stealth going. Find suppressors early via intel.
- Tweak the new Ghost parameters. If a mission frustrates you, you can now adjust enemy behavior, HUD and realism without dropping the whole difficulty.
Controls and Settings
Bindings differ by platform and have shifted across updates, so check Options > Controls rather than trusting an old key list. The actions worth putting on comfortable keys:
Action | Why it matters
Mark / tag target | Everything in stealth starts with marking
Drone deploy | You'll use it before every single assault
Squad command wheel (Sync Shot, Regroup, Hold, Open Fire) | Controls your AI team
Switch shoulder | Lets you peek around either side of cover
Tactical map | Planning, time skip and fast travel
Settings to check first: field of view, HUD elements (the 2026 Ghost parameters add more HUD control), and motion blur. A minimal HUD makes the world easier to read once you know the systems.
Campaign Structure
- The goal: take down El Sueño. To reach him, you remove the buchons, then the four division heads (Influence, Security, Production, Smuggling).
- Provinces: each has a main line of missions leading to the buchon. Some also have rebel side missions and Unidad side missions.
- Endings: you'll see a different ending depending on how thoroughly you've dismantled the cartel. If you want the fullest version, clear more of the map before you finish off El Sueño.
A sensible route:
- Start in Itacua (the tutorial province), then move to nearby one-star provinces.
- Grab skill points and weapon caches as you go.
- Climb toward three- and four-star provinces once you have Sync Shot upgrades, a suppressed sniper rifle and helicopter access.
- Five-star provinces come last. They have denser patrols, more elite enemies and more Unidad.
Skills: What to Upgrade First
Skills cost skill points plus rebel resources. The skill tree has categories for weapons, drones, items, physical and squad/rebel abilities.
Priority | Skill | Why
1 | Sync Shot (and its upgrades) | Stealth clears of whole groups at once
2 | Drone range, battery and Drone Stealth | Scout more of a base before engaging
3 | Health and armor upgrades | Survive mistakes
4 | Weapon stability and reload speed | Makes every gun better
5 | Remaining drone upgrades (speed, detection tools) | Speeds up recon
6 | Rebel Support upgrades | Mortar and Diversion cover assaults
7 | Parachute, vehicle and grenade upgrades | Nice to have
Resource farming: Every province has resource crates and convoys. Hitting a supply convoy (it shows a resource icon on the map) gets you a big lump of the matching resource. Convoys are also good for Unidad-free fights.
Stealth and Assault Tactics
The stealth loop:
- Stop at a distance and deploy the drone. Mark everyone.
- Find alarms (they call reinforcements) and mortars. Disable or avoid them.
- Pick off lone guards with a suppressed rifle or a melee takedown.
- Use Sync Shot on small groups (up to as many targets as your upgrades allow).
- Grab the objective and leave before a patrol notices the bodies.
If it goes loud:
- Fall back to a spot with cover and one entry point.
- Call in a Mortar or Diversion.
- Use C4 and grenade launchers on vehicles.
- Keep your helicopter or vehicle nearby for extraction.
Night vs. day: Night makes enemies spot you more slowly, and night vision / thermal scopes turn nights into your advantage. Use the tactical map to wait (skip time) until nightfall.
Weapons and Gear
Wildlands has a very large Gunsmith: rifles, sniper rifles, SMGs, LMGs, shotguns and pistols, each with scopes, barrels, magazines, stocks, underbarrels and suppressors.
Rules of thumb:
- Main gun: an assault rifle with a suppressor and a mid-range scope.
- Second gun: a suppressed sniper rifle for silent long shots, or a DMR.
- Pistol: always suppressed. It's your backup for close stealth kills.
- Suppressors reduce damage and range on some weapons. Get close enough for clean headshots.
- Weapon and attachment locations are shown once you collect the intel that reveals them.
TU25 fixed a bug where some unlocked attachments disappeared from the Gunsmith. If yours were missing, check again after updating.
Difficulty Levels and Challenge Modes
Mode | What it does
Arcade / Regular / Advanced / Extreme | Standard difficulty settings. You can change them at any time
Tier One | Endgame mode with harder enemies and Tier One ranks and rewards
Ghost Mode | Permadeath. One life for the whole campaign; a new game is required
Ghost parameters (2026) | New sliders for difficulty, enemy behavior, realism, HUD and weather
Recommended: first run on Advanced with a minimal HUD. Extreme is best in co-op.
Co-op
- Up to four players. With fewer humans, AI teammates fill the squad in single-player only; in co-op only human players are in the squad.
- The host's world progress is the one that counts for story missions, but everyone keeps their own character progress, weapons and skill points.
- Co-op sync shot: everyone can mark a target and fire together. Voice chat makes this far more fun.
- After the August 2026 fix, Steam players can once again join Ubisoft Connect players.
DLC and Special Operations
Content | Type | Notes
Narco Road | Paid expansion | Infiltrate the cartel as a new recruit; vehicle-heavy
Fallen Ghosts | Paid expansion | Harder enemies; the Ghosts are trapped in Bolivia after the cartel falls
Predator | Free (limited time, now back) | "The Jungle Moved" in Caimanes
Special Operations (Watchman, Archangel, Silent Spade, Oracle) | Free | Watchman features Splinter Cell's Sam Fisher; Archangel brings Rainbow Six operators (Caveira, Valkyrie, Twitch); Silent Spade and Oracle add story missions
Last Rites | Free (August 2026) | Standalone mission content against La Llorona's cult and a resurgent Unidad
The Definitive Edition bundles the base game with the paid expansions. TU25 fixed a Steam bug where the upgrade didn't unlock Narco Road and Fallen Ghosts.
The Predator Mission: Tips
- Where: Caimanes province, as the "The Jungle Moved" mission.
- Bring: a strong rifle or LMG with a big magazine, lots of healing items, grenades and explosives.
- The Predator cloaks and moves fast through the trees. Watch for its shimmer and the laser sight of its shoulder cannon.
- Keep moving between pieces of cover. Standing still gets you tagged.
- Co-op makes this much easier. Have one player draw attention while others shoot.
- Winning unlocks cosmetic rewards themed around the Predator (check in-game for the current reward list).
Ghost War (PvP)
Ghost War is 4v4 class-based tactical PvP. Classes include roles such as Assault, Sniper and Medic, each with its own abilities. Matches are elimination-style with no respawns. Player counts can be low outside anniversary events, so expect longer queue times.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Getting into a firefight with the Unidad early. It escalates to armored vehicles and helicopters and wastes your time and ammo.
- Ignoring rebel resources. You'll run into skill-point-only upgrades you can't buy because you have no Medicine or Comms.
- Driving everywhere. Use helicopters and fast travel.
- Skipping drone recon. One missed alarm turns a quiet mission into a mess.
- Landing a helicopter right on top of a base. It announces you to everyone and you'll probably get shot down.
- Playing on Extreme with a basic kit. Stealth works at any difficulty; damage sponging doesn't.
- Killing civilians. Civilian casualties are penalized and can end a mission, so check your line of fire around villages and checkpoints.
Advanced Tips
- Tag everything before shooting anything. Enemy counts in five-star provinces are high.
- Sniper nests: set up on a ridge above a base, drone-mark, and suppress-snipe from 200+ meters.
- Night + thermal: some of the best stealth runs in the game.
- Vehicle drop: calling a vehicle (after rebel missions) saves long walks when a helicopter is out of reach.
- Tier One mode is where to go once the campaign feels easy. It adds tougher enemies and its own rank rewards.
- Photo Mode contest: Ubisoft is running a "Landscapes" Photomode contest (announced September 17, 2026). Post on X with #GRPhotoContest and tag @GhostRecon. One entry per person.
