A practical guide to Elsword on Steam: picking a character and job path, how the class tree works, how to level fast with the current events, and what the endgame looks like after the Nebulon update.

Researched September 2026 — current as of the 16 September 2026 patch notes (Nebulon region and the first three Nebulon Raid dungeons); KOG's 22 September announcement teases an expanded raid ("Operation Undertow"), so check the latest patch notes for the newer raid dungeons. Live games change; check the linked sources if something differs.

Quick Start

  • Pick the character whose playstyle you like. All 15 characters reach endgame. Four job paths per character mean 60 different classes.
  • Your first job path unlocks at level 15. Read the skill previews; you can try other paths on other characters later.
  • Follow the Epic Quests. They are the main progression line and unlock new regions; don't get lost doing random side quests.
  • Use the current catch-up events. Right now the Quick Start Event, Combat Power Boost Event, Weekend Login Event and +11 Submergence of Abyss Weapon Provision Event (all 29 July to 20 October 2026) are running and exist to fast-track new and returning players.
  • Combat Power is the gate. Late dungeons list a minimum Combat Power (for example 1,200,000 for the newest regular dungeon). Your gear, enhancements and stats all feed into it.
  • Learn your combos early. Elsword is a combo-heavy 2.5D brawler; basic Z/X command strings plus skill cancels are a big part of your damage.
  • Party up for bosses and raids. Group play is faster and required for the newest raid content.
  • Don't spend real money on gear upgrades before endgame. Leveling gear is temporary; early spending is mostly cosmetic.

Characters and Job System

Characters (15): Elsword, Aisha, Rena, Raven, Eve, Chung, Ara, Elesis, Add, Lu/Ciel, Rose, Ain, Laby, Noah and Lithia.

Stage | When | What you get

1st job (path choice) | Level 15 | One of four class paths per character

2nd job | Mid-levels | Path continues into a stronger class

Transcendence | Level 70 | New passives, actives and an extra skill slot

3rd job | Level 99, after Transcendence | Final class name for your path (quest or item shop unlock)

Master Class | After the Varnimyr dungeons | Master skills and more power

Picking a character

  • Beginner-friendly: characters with simple ranged or long-reach attacks and easy combo strings. Mages and gunners tend to be forgiving; close-range melee characters reward tighter combos.
  • Pick by fantasy. Every path gets endgame-viable after master class, and the game hands out growth items constantly through events.
  • Look at the 4 paths in the character's job tree preview before choosing at level 15. The four paths of one character can feel like totally different classes.

Skill types

Type | Notes

Active | Low cost, short cooldown

Special Active | High-damage skills, main source of burst

Buff | Temporary self or party buffs

Passive | Always on

Hyper Active | Level 65+, huge damage, long cooldown

Master Skills | Master Class only

Character-specific | For example Ara's chain skills and Lu/Ciel's combination skills

Combat Basics

  • Combos: Z and X are your basic attacks; chaining them in different sequences produces different combos. Many classes can cancel combo ends into skills.
  • Skills: mapped to skill slots on your hotbar. Transcendence adds more slots.
  • Awakening: builds as you fight; activating it boosts your damage for a while and some classes get special effects during it. Many endgame items give bonuses "while awakened".
  • MP: skills cost MP. Hitting enemies restores it. Manage MP so your burst skills are ready for bosses.
  • Stagger and invincibility frames: most big skills make you briefly immune. Learn which of your skills give i-frames so you can use them through boss attacks.

Leveling Path

  • Tutorial and early regions: follow the Epic Quest line. Early dungeons are short and easy.
  • Choose your job at level 15.
  • Run each dungeon once for the quest; repeat only if you need a drop or experience.
  • Use event boxes from the Quick Start and login events: they typically contain gear, consumables and experience boosters.
  • Transcend at level 70.
  • Reach level 99 and complete your 3rd job advancement.
  • Varnimyr dungeons lead into Master Class.
  • From here, the game becomes a gear and Combat Power grind toward the latest regions.

Tip: the Holiday Special Burning event on 6 September 2026 doubled item drop rates for one day; watch Steam news for these burning events and save your farming for them.

Endgame in September 2026

Nebulon region (added 26 August 2026)

  • Unlocked by completing the Epic Quest line: To a New Region → "Entering Nebulon".
  • Methane Loading Dock (1–4 players): requires Level 99, 1,200,000 Combat Power and Exascale Armor or higher. It has a 95% Demon Realm debuff.
  • Parties entering Nebulon dungeons get a Hero in Battle buff.
  • Drops: Methane Ampoule and Metholone (materials for reforging Nebulon Suit Armor) and the Elite Glitter's Faceguard face accessory (Adaptation +3%, +6% all skill damage while awakened in dungeons, and 2% damage reduction in dungeons).

Nebulon Raid (first update 9 September 2026)

  • The raid has five dungeons. The first three arrived on 9 September: T-Tree Solution, Bioweapon Shelter and Progressive Zone. Dungeons 4 and 5 were announced for a later update; the 22 September news post advertises the "expanded Nebulon Raids – Operation Undertow" alongside a new Dark Elf Black Market, so they may already be live when you read this. Requirements below are for dungeons 1–3.
  • Story difficulty: 1–4 players, 2,000,000 Combat Power, unlimited resurrection stones.
  • Normal difficulty: 4–6 players, 6,000,000 Combat Power, 3 resurrection stones.
  • Both difficulties require Exascale Armor or higher and carry a 95% Demon Realm debuff.
  • Each dungeon has two phases and its own progress; you must fill progress to 100% to open the next dungeon.
  • Clear records and rewards reset every Wednesday at 00:00.
  • Camp: Subsector – F is the raid hub (after "Entering Nebulon"); reach it via the Cobo Transportation Service or the portal to the right of Camp: Steel Wall. Staying in the camp for a while gives the Raid Party's Resolve buff.

Nebulon Suit Armor

  • New legendary-grade armor from the raid, crafted with Nebulon materials.
  • Can be sealed twice, and shared through the Shared Bank (without equipped cartridges).
  • Supports Amplified Circuits and T.E.S. System Chips.
  • Cannot be used in PvP.

Exascale Armor and support

  • Exascale Armor is the entry requirement for Nebulon. The Exascale Amplified Circuit Supply Event (26 August to 15 December 2026) and Haivan's Exascale Pass (a pass running through 15 December 2026; the Premium version is bought in the Item Mall) give Amplified Circuits and T.E.S. System Chips for it.
  • The Nebulon Raid Support Event (9 September to 6 October 2026) lets you trade raid Mark items for support materials and gear upgrades.

Event calendar (as of the 16 September 2026 patch notes)

Event | Runs until (PDT/PST) | Why it matters

Nebulon Raid Support Event | 6 Oct 2026 | Trade raid Marks for support materials

Quick Start Event | 20 Oct 2026 | Fast-track for new characters

Combat Power Boost Event | 20 Oct 2026 | Gets you toward the Nebulon CP gates

+11 Submergence of Abyss Weapon Provision Event | 20 Oct 2026 | Free endgame-ready weapon

Raid Party Assemble! Rollout! Event | 20 Oct 2026 | Raid-group rewards

Weekend Login Event | 20 Oct 2026 | Log in on weekends for rewards

Exascale Amplified Circuit Supply Event | 15 Dec 2026 | Amplified Circuits and T.E.S. System Chips for Exascale Armor

Claim everything with a short end date first; the October events end together, so plan to finish your catch-up by mid-October.

Weekly routine once you're at endgame

  • Wednesday 00:00: raid clear records and clear rewards reset. Run the raid dungeons you can clear for the weekly drop rewards.
  • Farm Methane Loading Dock for Methane Ampoule and Metholone to reforge Nebulon Suit Armor.
  • Spend Amplified Circuits and T.E.S. System Chips on your Exascale Armor.
  • Check the Re-Order Shop and event pages when they rotate (every two weeks for costume re-orders).

Gear and Combat Power: Rules of Thumb

  • Follow the event gear. Current events hand out a +11 Submergence of Abyss weapon; use it rather than buying anything.
  • Combat Power is the number every late dungeon checks. Gear tier, enhancement, stats and accessories all raise it.
  • Adaptation matters in debuffed endgame dungeons (Demon Realm debuff); items like the Elite Glitter's Faceguard add it.
  • Don't over-enhance leveling gear — it gets replaced quickly.
  • Read item tooltips for "(Dungeon)" vs PvP effects. Many endgame effects are weaker or disabled in PvP.

PvP

  • Sparring arenas support 1v1 up to 4v4 in team and survival modes.
  • The PvP league was reset with the 26 August 2026 patch.
  • PvP uses its own balance; many PvE item bonuses are reduced (for example to 40% effectiveness).
  • Learn your character's combo escapes and invincible skills first — PvP is mostly about avoiding being comboed.

Economy and Currencies

  • ED is the in-game currency from dungeons and selling items.
  • K-Ching is the premium currency for the Item Mall (costumes, passes, convenience items).
  • Item Mall items are mostly cosmetic (costumes, skill cut-ins, portraits, motions) plus passes and packages. Costume reorder shops rotate every two weeks.
  • El House is your customizable housing; an El House Revamp event started in late September 2026.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Ignoring the Epic Quest line — you'll stall without region unlocks.
  • Buying leveling gear or enhancing it heavily.
  • Skipping event rewards. Current events are the best catch-up in the game.
  • Entering Normal raid under-geared. Story difficulty exists for learning the raid first.
  • Mixing up Story and Normal raid progress — you cannot alternate between them to progress.
  • Forgetting the Wednesday reset for raid clear rewards.
  • Mashing Z/X instead of learning your combo strings and skill cancels.

Advanced Tips

  • Plan your skill bar around cooldown windows. Line up Hyper Actives and buff skills for boss phases.
  • Awakening timing: many gear effects only trigger while awakened; awaken right before big bursts.
  • Camp buffs: wait for Raid Party's Resolve before starting a raid run.
  • Share gear across characters with the Shared Bank where the item allows it.
  • Burning events: do your big farming sessions during drop-rate events.
