How Astral Party's dice-and-card board battles work, how to win PvP matches (first to level 3), how the co-op challenge maps differ, what's live right now, and how to spend the free-to-play currencies sensibly.

Researched September 2026 — current as of the 3 September 2026 version update (Magical Girl Witch Trials collaboration). Live games change; check the linked sources if something differs.

Quick Start

  • The PvP goal is simple: reach level 3 first. Collect coins, convert them into levels, and be the first player to hit level 3.
  • Coins in your pocket are a liability. Monsters steal coins, rivals attack you for them, and late in the game a Boss targets the richest player. Level up as soon as you can afford it.
  • Every attack is a gamble. Battles are one-on-one: cards boost your attack, and dice decide whether it lands or gets dodged. Don't commit everything to a fight you're only slightly favored to win.
  • Read the board. There are 15 different panel effects plus random events. Plan your route toward panels that help you and away from traps.
  • Learn your character's two skill sets. Characters have separate PvP and PvE skills (active and passive), so the same character plays differently in competitive and co-op modes.
  • Watch Energy. Many skills and items spend Energy; running dry at the wrong moment loses fights.
  • Practice against bots first. You can play with AI (including 1 player with 3 bots, or 3 players and 1 bot) before jumping into online matches.
  • Turn on Quick Mode once you know the animations; it speeds matches up considerably.
  • Purchases are cosmetic for skins. Skins and dress-ups don't affect balance, but characters themselves come from the gacha, so plan your pulls.

How a Match Works

The Board

  • Up to four players move around a board by rolling dice.
  • Panels (board tiles) trigger effects when you land on or pass them. With 15 panel effects and random events, the board state changes constantly.
  • Monsters appear as the game advances. Some attack players; others just steal coins.
  • Near the end a Boss appears and relentlessly targets the richest player. If that's you, expect other players to "backstab" you while you're weakened.

Stats

The key stats shown in skill and item text are:

Stat | What it means

HP | Your health; many skills and chips key off it (for example, "below 50% HP")

ATK | Attack power in battles

DEF | Reduces incoming damage

Move | How far you travel on your movement roll

Energy | A resource spent by skills and some items

Battles

  • When you challenge another player or a monster, it's a one-on-one fight.
  • Battle Cards augment your attack; the dice decide whether your attack is dodged.
  • Effect Cards create other effects on the board or in combat (some items boost Effect Card damage).
  • Because dodges are dice-based, even a strong attack can whiff. Keep enough HP to survive a bad roll.

Winning

  • Coins earned from panels, battles and events are spent to level up.
  • First to level 3 wins. Convert coins to levels as early as possible so bad luck or a Boss can't strip you.

Characters and Skills

Each character has unique skills and illustrations. Skill kits are split into:

  • PvP Active Skill and PvP Passive Skill for competitive matches.
  • PvE Active Skill and PvE Passive Skill for co-op challenge maps.
  • Some collaboration characters have a PvE Collaboration Skill that triggers when their partner is nearby.

Characters also receive potential upgrades over time. For example, the 3 September update activated a potential for Cyber Phantom: her Active Skill gains benefits against distant targets, and after combat she no longer discards Battle Cards if she has 5 or fewer in hand.

Current Collaboration Characters (Magical Girl Witch Trials)

The collaboration started on 3 September 2026. Sherry Tachibana and Hanna Tono are collaboration-limited characters.

Character | PvP Active | PvP Passive | Notes

Sherry Tachibana | Throws all enemy players within 2 panels to a chosen location within 5 panels, then deals 2 damage to all enemies on that panel | Gains a stack after directly challenging an enemy (up to 4); each stack is +1 ATK and one stack is lost at end of turn | Her PvE version throws monsters within 3 panels to a spot within 7 panels. PvE Collaboration Skill: Hanna Tono takes 1 less damage when within 4 panels of Sherry

Hanna Tono | A levitation-style movement buff (check the in-game skill text for exact values) | Movement-focused; read the current text in the character preview | Pairs with Sherry through Sherry's PvE Collaboration Skill

Other Recent Characters

Characters featured in recent rate-up banners include Abyssal Larva (new in July 2026), Supernatural Force (April 2026), Cyber Phantom, Destiny Girl, Poisoned Apple, Jiao of the Mire and Hierarch of Mikami. Check a character's PvP and PvE kits in the gacha preview before pulling.

Co-op Challenge Maps (PvE)

Alongside PvP, Astral Party runs limited-time co-op challenge maps with their own monsters, mechanics and rewards:

  • Anomalous Library (3 September to 14 October 2026): the collaboration co-op map, with the monsters Warden, Watcher, Sinful Teapot and Legendary Thief, plus new chips including the Magnifying Glass and Hanna Doll.
  • Sports Meet (ended 2 September 2026): Qualifier's Field, Knockout Round Stadium and Grand Finals Arena had to be cleared in order, and players needed to keep stacks of the Mind buff.
  • Mutator Modules randomly add buffs and debuffs to players and monsters on some maps and can swing a whole run.
  • Several maps have escalating difficulty tiers (for example, Extreme Water Town in spring 2026 and an Insane difficulty progress cap on another map).

Chips

Chips are items that modify your character during a match. Some are universal, others are map-exclusive. Examples from the latest update:

Chip | Effect

Bookmark | Effect Card damage +1

Sharpening Stone | Below 50% HP, gain ATK +4 and take 1 less damage

Air Bag | Spend 6 Energy to negate lethal damage

Warp Engine | Gain 2 Energy and +2 Move on your next movement

The same update also added Endless Cycle, Energy Recycler, Electric Blade, Shock Gloves, Electric Core, Perpetual Motion Machine and Electromagnetic Gun, and adjusted chips such as Graceful Feather, Membership Recommendation Letter, Target Board and Sandwich Cookie.

Events and Currencies

Currency / item | Where it shows up

Star Disc | Handed out in login events and anniversary rewards (e.g., x160 in recent login events)

Gacha Cassette | Given as login and maintenance rewards; tied to the gacha

Costume Ticket | Event shop and bundle reward, linked to cosmetics

Shiyu-Shiyu Chip | Common reward in login events and event shops

Event tokens (e.g., Trophy Snow Globes) | Spent in that event's pool for its grand prize skin

Check each item's in-game tooltip for exactly what it buys; the store and gacha screens show which currency each purchase accepts.

What's Live (Late September 2026)

Turn Checklist (PvP)

Run through this every turn until it becomes automatic:

  • Can I level up right now? If yes, do it before anything else that risks coins.
  • Who is richest? If it's you and the Boss is out, play defensively and spend coins. If it's a rival, consider whether attacking them or letting the Boss do the work is better.
  • What's in range? Check which rivals and monsters are within your active skill's panel range and within your movement.
  • Which panels can I reach? Favor panels that give coins, cards or buffs; avoid traps unless one of your skills or chips protects you.
  • Do I have the cards and Energy to win a fight? A fight you can lose on a dodge roll is only worth it if the payoff is high.
  • Where will I end my turn? Ending next to an aggressive rival or a coin-stealing monster invites trouble.

Playing Co-op Well

  • Agree on a plan before the first roll. Who handles monsters, who chases objectives, who supports.
  • Share information. Call out Mutator Modules and dangerous monsters as they appear.
  • Use collaboration skills. Some characters (like Sherry Tachibana and Hanna Tono) reward staying close to a partner.
  • Don't split too far. Many support effects are range-based; a spread-out team can't help each other.
  • Clear stages in order on maps that require it (the Sports Meet made you finish the Qualifier and Knockout Round before the Final).
  • Keep required buffs up. On maps with mechanics like the Mind stacks, falling off the buff was the main cause of wipes.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Sitting on a big pile of coins. Level up when you can; the Boss and your rivals are coming for the richest player.
  • Taking every fight. A dodge roll can wreck you. Fight when the odds and the payoff are both good.
  • Ignoring Energy. Skills and chips like Air Bag need it at the critical moment.
  • Using PvP instincts in PvE. Co-op maps have different skills, different objectives and threats like the Mind requirement on Sports Meet.
  • Pulling on every banner. Characters are gacha-based; save currency for characters whose kits you actually want.
  • Forgetting timed events. Limited characters and collab rewards leave when the event ends.

Advanced Tips

  • Time your level-ups just before dangerous panels or the Boss's arrival.
  • Position for your active skill. Many skills are range-based (e.g., "within 2 panels"). Move into range before the turn you want to use it.
  • Use displacement skills like Sherry Tachibana's throw to move rivals onto bad panels or into range of monsters.
  • Stack ATK buffs before challenging. Passives that grant temporary ATK stacks decay at end of turn, so chain challenges in the same turn.
  • In co-op, split roles: one player tanks monster aggro while others clear objectives or damage the boss.
  • Read Mutator Modules at the start of a run and adapt your route and chip picks.
