A roadmap for Global MapleStory in autumn 2026: choosing a world and class, leveling from 1 to 260+, the gear-progression systems (Star Force, Potential, Symbols, HEXA), bossing, and what is live and coming this season, including the Frieren collaboration, Challenger World, and Classic World.
Researched September 2026 — current as of v.271 "MapleStory x Frieren: Beyond Journey's End" (September 9, 2026; minor patch v.271.3.0 on September 17). Live games change; check the linked sources if something differs.
Quick Start
- Pick your world type first. Interactive worlds (such as Scania, Bera, and Luna) have trading and the Auction House. Heroic worlds (such as Kronos, Hyperion, and Solis) have no player trading, but monsters give more mesos and there are other quality-of-life bonuses. New players who want to play solo usually enjoy Heroic.
- Use Burning events. Hyper Burning and similar events give extra levels per level-up on one character. Always create your main during an active burning event.
- Build your Legion. Every character you level adds to your Legion, which gives account-wide stats. Alts are core progression, not optional.
- Grab Link Skills. Leveling certain classes to set levels gives Link Skills your main can equip.
- Do your dailies. Arcane River and Grandis daily quests give Symbols, which are the stats that let you hit endgame monsters.
- Do not rush Star Force or cubes on early gear. Early gear is temporary. Save mesos for endgame sets.
- Weekly bosses are where the money and gear are. Start with daily and easy weekly bosses as soon as you can clear them.
- The level cap is 300. 5th job starts at 200 (the V Matrix). 6th job, the HEXA Matrix, starts at 260.
- Keep an eye on the event page. Most "free power" in MapleStory comes from limited-time events.

Choosing a Class
MapleStory has over 40 classes grouped into families. Each family has its own questline and shared Link Skill style.
Family | Examples of classes | Notes
Explorers | Hero, Paladin, Dark Knight, Bishop, Night Lord, Shadower, Bowmaster, Marksman, Buccaneer, Corsair | The classic jobs. Many have shared "Explorer" progression.
Cygnus Knights | Dawn Warrior, Blaze Wizard, Wind Archer, Night Walker, Thunder Breaker, Mihile |
Heroes | Aran, Evan, Mercedes, Phantom, Luminous, Shade |
Resistance | Blaster, Battle Mage, Wild Hunter, Mechanic, Xenon, Demon Slayer, Demon Avenger |
Nova | Kaiser, Angelic Buster, Cadena, Kain |
Others | Zero, Kinesis, Hoyoung, Lara, Khali, Ren, and more | Kinesis was just revamped ("Kinesis Redux")
How to choose:
- Pick what you enjoy watching yourself play. You will use this class for hundreds of hours.
- Mobbing versus bossing: Some classes clear maps easily and others focus on single-target burst. Beginners usually enjoy strong mobbers for daily quests.
- Check recent revamps. Classes that were just reworked, like Kinesis Redux in summer 2026, often get burning events and extra rewards.
Leveling Roadmap
Level range | Where | Key unlocks
1 to 10 | Class tutorial | Job advancement
10 to 200 | Main questlines, theme dungeons, training maps. Burning events make this fast. | 2nd, 3rd, and 4th job. Hyper Skills at 140+.
200 | 5th job: the V Matrix | Nodestones, V skills
200 to 260 | Arcane River (Vanishing Journey, Chu Chu Island, Lachelein, Arcana, Morass, Esfera, and later areas) | Arcane Symbols / Arcane Power
260 to 300 | Grandis regions (Cernium, Hotel Arcus, Odium, Shangri-La, Arteria, Carcion, and later areas) | Sacred Symbols / Sacred Power. 6th job (HEXA Matrix) at 260.
Leveling tips:
- Symbols first. Do your symbol dailies every day. Without enough Arcane or Sacred Power, your damage against a region's monsters is heavily reduced.
- Use EXP coupons and buffs during 2x EXP windows and events.
- Monster Park (daily runs) is great bonus EXP.
- Elite monsters and runes: Activating runes in training maps gives an EXP buff. Kill Elite Monsters when they spawn.
- Party play: Some events and Challenger World features, like Challenger Partners, reward playing with others.
Gear Progression Systems
System | What it is | Tips
Star Force | Enhances equipment with stars, adding stats. Higher stars risk failing, and past certain points gear can be destroyed. | Only star-force gear you plan to keep. Use events such as Star Force discount events.
Potential | Three hidden lines, upgraded with cubes. Tiers go Rare, Epic, Unique, Legendary. | Aim for % of your main stat (or Attack/Magic Attack on weapons). Glowing Cubes were recently re-enabled on hats after a v.271 fix.
Bonus Potential | A second set of potential lines | Mostly for weapons and endgame.
Flames | Bonus stats on gear, rerolled with flames | Important for endgame gear.
Symbols | Arcane and Sacred Symbols raise Arcane or Sacred Power plus main stat | Level them daily.
V Matrix | Nodestones that boost skills and give 5th job skills | Get your "trio" boost nodes in order.
HEXA Matrix | 6th job. Skill nodes (Origin, Ascent, and so on), Mastery nodes, Boost nodes, and Common nodes, plus HEXA Stats | Needs Sol Erda and Sol Erda Fragments
Legion | Account-wide grid bonuses from all your characters | Level lots of alts.
Familiars | Collectible monster companions with bonus effects | v.271 updated familiars for the Geadock region.
HEXA Matrix, explained
- Skill nodes: The Origin node grants each class a powerful, long-cooldown burst skill, and it is the first node most players level. Later skill nodes (such as Ascent) add further class-specific skills; check your class's HEXA page on the wiki for exactly what they do.
- Mastery nodes replace your 1st to 4th job skills with enhanced versions.
- Boost nodes enhance your V Matrix skills. The base skill needs to be level 25.
- Common nodes are shared skills such as Sol Janus and Sol Hecate. v.271 added new Common Nodes and the Sol Hecate Skin system.
- Resources: Sol Erda (every 1,000 Sol Erda Energy converts automatically) and Sol Erda Fragments from monsters and weekly quests. Fragments are untradable in Heroic worlds and tradable within the world in Interactive worlds.
- Skill, Mastery, Boost, and Common nodes max at level 30. HEXA Stat has its own, separate leveling.
Priority rule of thumb: Origin node first, then your most-used Mastery and Boost nodes, and HEXA Stats later. Class-specific guides give exact orders.
Bossing
Bossing gives the best gear and the biggest mesos. Clear order roughly follows difficulty.
Early bosses (daily or weekly): Zakum, Horntail, Hilla, Von Leon, Arkarium, Pink Bean, Magnus, Papulatus, Cygnus, and the Root Abyss bosses (Pierre, Von Bon, Crimson Queen, Vellum).
Midgame weeklies: Lotus, Damien, Lucid, Will, Guardian Angel Slime, Gloom, Darknell, Verus Hilla.
Endgame: The Black Mage, Chosen Seren, Kalos, Kaling, and newer bosses. v.271.3.0 fixed a disconnection for Night Lord and Ren players in Kaling's Phase 3.
Bossing tips:
- Learn mechanics on easy or normal mode first. Dying uses up death counts and wastes your weekly clear.
- Crystal selling: Boss crystals are a major meso source, but there is a weekly crystal limit per account, so use it on your highest-value clears.
- Party up for harder bosses. Many bosses scale rewards for parties.
Money (Mesos) Basics
- Heroic worlds: Mesos come mostly from monsters and boss crystals, and there is no trading.
- Interactive worlds: Mesos come from bossing, farming, and selling to other players in the Auction House.
- Spend on: Symbols, Star Force (on final gear), cubes, and HEXA. Avoid gambling on temporary equipment.
Challenger World, Classic World, and Events
- Challenger World is a special limited-time world (Interactive and Heroic versions, NA and EU) with its own pass and shop, where you earn rewards to send home. World Leap issues from Challenger World were fixed in v.271.3.0. Check the official event notice for the current end date before investing.
- Classic World launches October 21, 2026, with Founder's Access from October 6. Founder's Packages were on sale until October 14.
- MapleStory Fest 2026 is on October 17 in Los Angeles, with in-game rewards for attendees.
- Nexon posted a formal notice (September 11, 2026) that it is taking legal action against unauthorized private servers. Stick to the official game.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Starting a main outside a Burning event. You lose huge amounts of free levels.
- Neglecting Symbol dailies. Falling behind on Arcane or Sacred Power stalls you.
- Star-forcing temporary gear to high stars.
- Ignoring Legion and Link Skills. They are a large share of endgame stats.
- Wasting weekly boss entries by attempting bosses you cannot clear yet.
- Buying expensive cubes randomly. Know your target lines and stop when you hit a good result.
- Falling for private servers or third-party meso sellers. They risk bans and account theft.
Advanced Tips
- Plan HEXA investment around bossing. Origin and Mastery nodes on your main bossing skills give the biggest damage jump.
- Coordinate your events. Stack EXP coupons, 2x EXP, and burning periods. Save Star Force for discount or success-rate events.
- Use alts for Legion and Link Skills, and for Challenger World rewards when those can be sent to your main account.
- Track your weekly reset (Thursday for most weekly content in GMS). Plan boss clears so you never miss a reset.
- Read patch notes and Known Issues. v.271 had several issues fixed in follow-ups, including Glowing Cubes on Legendary hats and Challenger World leaping.
