This guide covers the path from your first Horizon Qualifier to the Golden Wristband and Legend Island. It includes wristband progression, settings and assists, credit-earning habits, cars and tuning, the Estate, and the online modes.
Researched September 2026 — current as of the post-launch Series updates on PC/Xbox (the current Series number and theme could not be confirmed at review time; check the Festival Playlist in-game). Live games change; check the linked sources if something differs.
Quick Start
- Pick any starter car. You get all three. The 1989 Nissan Silvia K's, the 1994 Toyota Celica GT-Four ST205 and the 1970 GMC Jimmy all go into your garage, so choose based on the kind of driving you want to start with.
- Chase wristbands. Every new wristband unlocks new event types, PR Stunts and hidden Street Races, and progress compounds from there. The Yellow Wristband comes from the Horizon Invitational.
- Turn the difficulty up as soon as you're winning comfortably. Higher Drivatar difficulty and fewer assists raise the credit payout of every race.
- Start with sensible assists. Keep ABS on, set the driving line to "braking only" and use automatic shifting. Then remove one assist at a time.
- Drive over Mascots. Each region has mascots scattered around. Each one pays 5,000 credits, and there are 200 on the map (about 1,000,000 credits in total).
- Use the Collection Journal as your to-do list whenever you feel lost.
- Upgrade tires, brakes and weight before power. A C- or B-class car with good grip beats a twitchy high-horsepower build.
- Own one road car and one off-road car before you buy anything else, and add more only when an event needs a new role.
- Check Aftermarket Cars. These are pre-tuned cars sitting in the open world at lower prices than the Autoshow. Test-drive them before buying.
- Join the Festival Playlist once it unlocks. The weekly seasonal events pay out exclusive cars.
Game Overview
Forza Horizon 6 is from Playground Games (with Turn 10 assisting) and published by Xbox Game Studios. It launched on Xbox Series X|S and PC on May 19, 2026, with Premium Edition early access from May 15. A PS5 version is due later in 2026. It's on Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. The setting is Japan, the largest Horizon map to date, with Tokyo as its main urban area (reported as about five times larger than any previous Horizon city).
The prologue gives you a cinematic tour of the map's regions, driving a 2024 Nissan GT-R Nismo, a Polaris RZR Pro 4 and a 1995 Porsche 911 GT2. Legend Island, which hosts a second festival site and unique challenges, stays locked until you earn the Golden Wristband.
Launch content included over 550 cars, with a Car Pass of 30 extra cars delivered one per week.
Progression: The Wristband Path
Step | What you do | What it unlocks
Arrival | Prologue drive into Japan | Choice of starter car (you get all three)
Horizon Qualifiers | Six events: a circuit, a Trail Race, a PR Stunt and more | Festival Points toward the Invitational
Horizon Invitational | Win the showcase event | Yellow Wristband; you're officially in the festival
Wristband tiers | Complete festival events at each tier | New event types, PR Stunts, hidden Street Races, more of the map
Golden Wristband | Finish the top tier | Horizon Legend status and access to Legend Island
Discover Japan is a separate track that unlocks after the Invitational. You earn stamps by completing exploration activities such as Street Races, Touge Battles, Car Meets and Time Attack Circuits. Treat it as your checklist for side activities.
Settings and Assists
Setting | Beginner | When you're ready
ABS | On | Off (only with a wheel or real practice)
Driving line | Braking only | Off
Shifting | Automatic | Manual (then Manual with clutch for the fastest shifts)
Traction / stability control | On | Traction off first, then stability
Steering | Assisted/Standard | Simulation
Drivatar difficulty | Low-mid | Raise it until you win roughly half your races
Lower assists and harder AI both raise the credit multiplier. Because the payout bonus stacks, the fastest way to earn money is to get good enough to turn things off.
PC players: update your GPU drivers and aim for a stable frame rate before you judge the handling. Stutter feels exactly like bad steering.
Activities
Activity | What it is | Tip
Road / Dirt / Cross Country races | The core festival events | Match the car's class and tires to the surface
Street Races | Night and urban racing, some hidden until a new wristband | Traffic is on, so brake earlier than you think
Touge Battles | Mountain-pass duels | Grip-tuned light cars (AE86-style) do great here
Time Attack Circuits | Hotlap challenges | Good for learning a car before you tune it
Drag Meets | Straight-line drags | A clean launch wins most drags; see the launch tip under Advanced Tips
Car Meets | Social hubs | Browse builds, download tunes and look at liveries
PR Stunts | Speed traps, speed zones, drift zones, danger signs, trailblazers | Big early skill points and stars
Barn Finds / Treasure Cars | Hidden classics | Mark them on the map and come back with the right car
Mascots | 200 collectibles | 5,000 credits each
Cars, Classes and Buying Smart
Classes run from D (slowest) through C, B, A, S1, S2 to X. Most early festival events restrict you to one class, so a well-built car near the top of its class is ideal.
What to own early
- A C/B-class road car (the Silvia or Celica work well).
- An off-road car (the GMC Jimmy, or a rally car later).
- A fast A/S1 road car once high-speed events show up.
Upgrade order (per class point): tires, then weight reduction, then brakes and suspension, then power. Swapping the drivetrain (AWD) is a powerful way to make any car easy to drive, but it costs a lot of class points.
Tuning: FH5 tunes don't carry over, because car classes were rebalanced. Vinyls and decals do transfer (you may need to rebuild full liveries from their vinyl groups). If you don't tune yourself, download community tunes at Car Meets or through the tune browser by searching your car.
Money and Rewards
- Race on the highest difficulty you can win at. It's the best repeatable credit source.
- Wheelspins and Super Wheelspins come from leveling up and skill perks. Spin them right away, since they give credits, cars and cosmetics.
- Skill points come from skill chains while driving (drifts, near misses, air, drafting). Spend them on car mastery perks, and prioritize cars whose trees include Super Wheelspins and skill-point multipliers.
- Mascots are a guaranteed 1M credits in total.
- The Festival Playlist (weekly seasonal events) pays exclusive cars. Playlist cars are the ones you can't get elsewhere, so don't skip them.
- Don't sell early rare cars for pocket money. The Auction House rewards patience.
Houses and the Estate
- Buying the Yashiki House unlocks The Estate, a mountainside property in rural Japan where you build and decorate directly in the open world.
- Garages are customizable display spaces for your collection that you can share with other players.
- Houses also serve as fast-travel points, so buy the ones that are central to where you actually play.
Online and Horizon Play
Online play opens up early, including The Eliminator (a battle royale for up to 72 players) and other multiplayer racing and party modes — check the online menu for the current rotation. EventLab lets you build and share custom events. Save ranked or competitive sessions for when you have time. Casual online modes are fine to drop into.
Quality-of-Life Features
- ANNA Auto-Drive: the AI assistant drives you to a destination. Its cinematic mode hides the UI so you can record footage.
- Collection Journal: tracks Mascots, events, friends and your discoveries, and points you to your next goals.
- Dynamic seasons: weather and conditions change with the weekly season, and that affects the playlist events.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Buying hypercars early. Most early events are class-limited, so they sit in the garage.
- Maxing power upgrades before tires and brakes.
- Staying on the lowest difficulty. You're giving up a large share of every payout.
- Selling or ignoring Festival Playlist cars.
- Driving past Barn Find rumors without marking them.
- Judging handling on a stuttering PC. Fix the frame rate first.
Advanced Tips
- Tune per event type. Duplicate a car and keep a Touge build, a Street build and a Drag build.
- Drag launch: hold the throttle and e-brake, release the brake at the green light, and short-shift early if the tires spin.
- Farm skill points with drift chains on mountain passes. Pair a drift-tuned car with its mastery perks.
- Use EventLab and Car Meets to find the community's current credit and XP farms. They change with the Series updates, so treat any specific farm as temporary.
- Remove assists in order: braking line, then auto shifting, then traction, then stability, then ABS. Race a few events after each change.
