A current guide to San Paro: choosing a faction, how missions and matchmaking work, currencies and what to spend them on, weapons and mods, and what changed in 2026 (the Legends update, the post-ransomware 1.33 rebuild, and recent balance changes).

Researched September 2026 — current as of patch 1.33 "Loud and Clear" (September 16, 2026). Live games change; check the linked sources if something differs.

2026 status: APB Reloaded is live and free-to-play under Little Orbit. In mid-August 2026 the studio was hit by ransomware, and every server hosting APB was rebuilt. Patch 1.33 (maintenance September 16, 2026) then replaced the old World server, which handles matchmaking, groups, clans and chat. The new World server is more stable and, in Little Orbit's words, "clears the road" for cross-world matchmaking (the whole player base queuing together regardless of your character's world), which they describe as the next step. It isn't live yet as of 1.33. The patch also rebuilt voice chat on an updated Vivox. Expect some growing pains: Little Orbit lists known audio regressions from the 64-bit upgrade (some effects too loud, clipping at low volume, the radio filter).

Quick Start

  • Pick a faction: Enforcers (cops and vigilantes) or Criminals (gangs). Both play the same mission-vs-mission PvP. The difference is how you start missions: Criminals commit crimes, Enforcers respond to them and can arrest people.
  • Head to an action district. Financial is the dense urban map. Waterfront is the larger dockside map. The social district is for customisation and trading, with no combat.
  • Missions are PvP. You take a mission from a contact, and the matchmaker sends a group from the opposing faction to stop you. Every mission is a fight.
  • Threat level (the coloured icon, such as Green, Bronze, Silver or Gold) shows your recent performance. The game uses it to match you. Don't worry about it early on.
  • Level up your contacts. Standing with contacts is what raises your rank and unlocks weapons and mods. The Legends update (March 2026) raised the rank cap to 290.
  • Group up. Solo is hard. Group with players around your threat level, or join a clan.
  • Rent before you buy. Try weapons from contacts before you spend real money (G1C) on permanent ones.
  • Customise. The clothing, symbol, vehicle and music editors are APB's best feature and cost only in-game money.

Factions and Districts

Enforcers | Criminals

Start missions by | Responding to crimes and taking contact jobs | Committing crimes: ram raids, mugging, car theft and contact jobs

Extra actions | Arrest stunned or downed criminals for extra reward | Earn cash from crime in the open world

Playstyle | Same guns and mission structure | Same guns and mission structure

Districts:

  • Financial: Tighter streets and rooftops. Lots of close and mid-range fights. The Legends update added two contacts here (Zombie and LaRocha) and adjusted the building complex near the skatepark "to improve flow".
  • Waterfront: Open docks and long sightlines. It suits rifles and snipers more. Patch 1.33 made small spawn adjustments here.
  • Social district: No combat. Customisation, the marketplace, and meeting up.
  • District selection now sorts by ping, fastest first, as of 1.33.

How Missions Work

  • Take a mission (from a contact, or by committing a crime as a Criminal).
  • You get a string of objectives: hold a point, deliver an item, defend, destroy, or protect a vehicle.
  • The matchmaker sends an opposing group. From then on it's live PvP until someone completes the final objective or the timer runs out.
  • You respawn at district spawn points. Vehicles are how you get back to the fight.
  • Winning gives more APB$, standing and Joker Tickets. Losing still pays something.

Backups: If your team is outnumbered or losing, the game can call in extra players as backup. Accept backup requests to get into fights quickly.

Currencies: What to Spend Them On

Currency | How you get it | Spend it on

APB$ | Missions, crimes, arrests, selling items | Leased weapons, mods, vehicles, customisation, the player marketplace

G1C | Real money | ARMAS Marketplace: permanent weapons, Premium, cosmetics, bundles

Joker Tickets | Missions and events | The Joker Store: boxes, special weapons and kits

Premium | G1C or event codes | More rewards and faster progression

F2P tips:

  • Watch for events. Little Orbit runs frequent events with free Premium or extra rewards. Summer Nights 2026 (August 21 to September 15) gave everyone Premium with the code Summer_Nights, and had rotating bonus days (XP, Joker Tickets, double weapon progress, APB$). HeatWave 2026 (June 18 to July 8) and Power Week (July 24 to 31) had similar bonuses.
  • Sales on ARMAS are common (15–20% off during 2026 events). Wait for one before buying anything with G1C.
  • Weapon Roles track progress with each weapon type. Use double-progress days to level them.

Weapons and Mods

APB's guns are split into roles: assault rifles, SMGs, shotguns, marksman rifles, snipers, LMGs, pistols, and explosives. Starting guns are fine, but contacts unlock better leased weapons as you rank up.

What the Legends update (March 2026) added:

  • New contacts: Zombie and LaRocha (Financial District).
  • New weapons from them: FAR NFCP 2, SWARM NFCP 2, Joker M9, OCA 'Silverado', SBSR Coroner 'Terminus' / 'Lenda', and ISSR-A 'Adeen' (a rare daily reward).
  • Joker C9S 'Prototype': A new Legendary close-quarters variant.
  • EMP Grenade (unlocks at Grenadier Rank 3): disables vehicles and electronics. It's the counter to vehicle-heavy teams.
  • New mods: Steady Sight, Improved Ironsights, Lightweight Frame, Steering Angle Tuning, Fortified Electronics.
  • All SBSR weapons are now semi-automatic. Inventory limits went up.

Recent balance changes:

  • June 24, 2026: The Colby .45 AP and FR0G pistols had their rate of fire reduced a little, to cut down on ghost shots.
  • 1.33 (September 2026): The ISSR-B got a small health damage nerf.

Mod priorities for new players: Put a sight or accuracy mod on your main rifle first (the new Steady Sight and Improved Ironsights help). Then pick a character modification suited to your role (armour-type mods for frontline players, utility for support). Get vehicle mods once you're driving to objectives regularly.

Settings and Anti-Cheat

  • Voice chat (1.33): Choose push-to-talk or voice activation. There are separate volume sliders for World, Group, Team and Clan, game-audio ducking when someone talks, mic auto-gain, and device selection. Speaker icons show channel colours, and a subtitle bar shows nearby speakers.
  • Streamer Mode (December 2025) hides character details, names, custom symbols, and user-created content locally.
  • Anti-cheat: Gamersfirst Anti-Cheat (GFAC) was added in August 2025. 1.33 also fixed anti-cheat stability issues and a Vault crash.
  • Crash reports now reach the developers properly, which should make hotfixes faster.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Playing solo in Gold threat lobbies. Group up, or you'll be outgunned.
  • Driving into objectives. Park out of sight and walk in. Vehicles are loud, big targets.
  • Ignoring cover and rooftops in Financial. Height and corners win fights.
  • Spending G1C before trying a weapon. Rent it or borrow a leased version first.
  • Forgetting to redeem event codes. Free Premium weeks give a big progression boost.
  • Tunnel-visioning on kills. The objective wins the mission. Stand on the point and play the timer.

Advanced Tips

  • Play the timer. Many objectives only need you to hold or deliver near the end. Save your team's push for the last minute.
  • Spawn routes matter. Learn where the enemy respawns and meet them on the way back, instead of fighting a fully regrouped team on the objective.
  • EMP versus vehicle squads: The new EMP Grenade makes it easy to stop cars that ram onto objectives.
  • Vehicle loadouts: A fast car with good handling gets you back to fights faster. Steering Angle Tuning and Fortified Electronics (anti-EMP) are worth trying.
  • Watch for cross-world matchmaking. 1.33's new World server is groundwork for it, and Little Orbit calls it the next step. When it lands, queues should get bigger and matches fairer; check the patch notes for when it goes live.
  • Check the Steam news each week. Little Orbit posts maintenance windows and patch notes there. Maintenance can take several hours.

FAQ

Is APB Reloaded still alive in 2026? Yes. It survived an August 2026 ransomware attack with rebuilt servers, and patch 1.33 replaced the World server (groundwork for cross-world matchmaking, which is planned next) and rebuilt voice chat. Events and sales run regularly.

What's the max rank? Rank 290, raised in the Legends update (March 27, 2026).

Is APB pay-to-win? You can buy permanent weapons and Premium with G1C. Most weapon types can also be leased or unlocked through contacts, and skill and teamwork matter more. Watch for sales and free Premium events.

Enforcer or Criminal, which is better? Neither. Missions and guns are shared. Criminals have more open-world crime activities, and Enforcers can arrest. Pick whichever sounds more fun.

What happened in August 2026? Little Orbit was hit by ransomware in mid-August. APB's servers were rebuilt from scratch, and 1.33 on September 16 was the first full maintenance cycle afterwards.

Why did my voice chat change? 1.33 rebuilt voice on an updated Vivox, with push-to-talk or voice activation and per-channel volume sliders. Check the audio settings after patching.
