Covers progression, combat, exploration, economy, and what the free Enhanced update (patch 2.00.00) changed in Pearl Abyss's open world of Pywel, with Kliff and the Greymanes.

Researched September 2026 — current as of Patch 2.00.00 "Crimson Desert Enhanced" (August 25, 2026); the Charting the Unknown DLC is due October 15, 2026. Live games change; check the linked sources if something differs.

Quick Start

  • Enhanced is a free update, not a separate game. If you own Crimson Desert, patch 2.00.00 adds the Enhanced content automatically (it appears on Steam as Crimson Desert Enhanced, app 3321460).
  • There's no XP leveling. Kliff gets stronger through Abyss Artifacts (skills) and Refinement at the blacksmith (gear). Exploration is how you progress.
  • Put your early resources into Kliff. He's the character the story uses for the big boss fights and main missions.
  • Health and Stamina first. Getting both to around level 4–5 early makes the opening hours much smoother.
  • Learn to parry. A successful block/parry gives back Stamina and Spirit and opens a counter. Boss fights are built around it.
  • Ring the bell towers. Each one reveals its whole area on the map.
  • Open Abyss Nexus points (the question-mark markers). They're your fast-travel network.
  • Food is your healing. Bind healing food to a quick slot before boss fights. Some dishes also give elemental resistance.
  • Don't sell bandit pouches right away. They're worth more as gifts to raise merchant trust.

What Patch 2.00.00 "Enhanced" Changed

Released August 25, 2026 on every platform (Steam PC/Mac, PlayStation, Xbox, Epic, Mac App Store).

Change | What it means for you

New cutscenes and story moments | Better main-story flow and more context for bosses (extra dialogue, memory fragments, knowledge entries, items)

Eight new skills for Kliff | They unlock after a certain point in the main story; check Kliff's skill screen once you reach it

Abyss Link | New skill resource. When one character spends Abyss Artifacts on a skill, the other playable characters get the same number of Abyss Links

Full skill reset | On first launch after 2.00.00, all skill progress resets and everything is refunded, including Abyss Artifacts. Rebuild on purpose rather than copying your old build

New Game carry-over | After finishing all main quests, a new game can carry over Abyss Links and other currencies from an existing save

Double Jump | Now a reward from Bilwise during the quest "Unexpected Gift"

Flying Mount Controls | New option: Camera (you fly where the camera points) or Manual (separate direction input and ascend/descend)

Golden Star boss | Reworked with distinct phases and new attacks in each phase

Companion survivability | Companions travelling with you take less damage

Languages | New voice: German, French, Spanish, Japanese, Brazilian Portuguese. New UI/subtitle language: Arabic

Main quest UI | Improved tracking

Upcoming: The Charting the Unknown DLC (announced September 3, releasing October 15, 2026) takes Kliff beyond Pywel by ship and adds naval combat, underwater exploration and expanded housing features. A Switch 2 version is planned for early 2027.

Progression Systems

Abyss Artifacts and skills

  • Abyss Artifacts are the skill currency. You get them from exploration, quests, and puzzles.
  • Sealed Abyss Artifacts sit on roadside altars. Each has a challenge (for example, kill a set number of enemies with a specific weapon within a time limit). Complete it to claim the Artifact.
  • Skill priorities for Kliff early on:
  • Health and Stamina nodes up to around 4–5.
  • Keen Senses, which leads to better dodging.
  • Forward Slash, a strong heavy attack for damage.
  • Force Palm, which you learn early. It's excellent in combat and very useful for getting around (see below).
  • After 2.00.00: Spending Artifacts on Kliff now also gives Abyss Links to the other playable characters, so focusing on Kliff no longer leaves the others far behind.

Refinement (gear)

  • Weapons and armour are upgraded by Refinement at blacksmiths using raw materials.
  • From Refinement level 5 onward, each step also needs Abyss Artifacts, the same currency your skills use.
  • Rule of thumb: refine your main gear to level 4 using only materials, then only push further when you have spare Artifacts after taking the skills you want.
  • Abyss gear can be crafted and enhanced once you've researched the recipes (see Camp below).

Combat

Crimson Desert mixes weapon combos with grapples and wrestling-style moves.

  • Grapples: Grab enemies to suplex them, throw them off ledges, or hold them as a shield against ranged attacks.
  • Parry/block timing: A well-timed block gives back Stamina and Spirit and opens a counter window. Practise on regular enemies before bosses.
  • Force Palm: A push/stagger with lots of uses in fights. It's also a movement tool (see Exploration).
  • Stamina management: Don't use it all on combos. Keep enough for a dodge.
  • Healing: Bind food to a quick slot. Carry dishes with elemental resistance for bosses that use that element.
  • Palmar Pills (unlocked through Camp research) revive you and are worth carrying into hard fights.
  • Companions take less damage after 2.00.00, so they stay in fights longer, but you still do most of the damage.

Boss approach

  • Spend the first attempt learning the boss's patterns, not maximising damage.
  • Find which attacks you can parry and which you must dodge.
  • Use grapples and Force Palm to stagger between phases.
  • Golden Star now has distinct phases with new attacks in each (2.00.00). Expect the fight to change partway through.
  • If you're stuck, go refine your gear and clear some Sealed Abyss Artifact altars. With no XP, gear and skills are your only upgrades.

Exploration and Traversal

  • Bell towers reveal their surrounding area on the map.
  • Abyss Nexus points (question marks) are fast-travel points. Unlock them as you pass.
  • Abyss platforms let you jump to far-off quest locations as shortcuts.
  • Aerial Force Palm can be chained (up to three times) to climb mountains and cliffs without looking for a path.
  • Double Jump: Since 2.00.00, it comes from Bilwise in "Unexpected Gift".
  • New 2.00.00 Kliff skills unlock later in the story; check which ones help traversal when they appear.
  • Flying mounts: Try both Camera and Manual control modes in the settings. Manual is better for precise landings.

Horses and pets

  • Upgrade your horse early. Priden-type horses are recommended for stamina.
  • Legendary horses can be hunted later on.
  • Pets: Raise an animal's trust to 100 to adopt it. Pets pick up loot for you automatically.

Economy, Merchants, and Inventory

  • Bandit pouches: Keep them and give them to merchants to build trust instead of cashing them in.
  • Merchant trust 100 unlocks better gear, rare items, and trade agreements. Pick one or two merchants you visit often and focus on them.
  • Inventory: Side quests in Hernand expand inventory, and merchants sell small bags for extra slots. Do both early. A post-launch update also added a storage box so you can stash items instead of carrying them. Running out of space slows everything down.
  • Stealing has limited consequences because of how the contribution meter caps. It's an option if you need a blueprint or money, but only if you're comfortable with it.

Greymanes Camp

Rebuilding the Greymanes is both the main story and a system.

  • The camp becomes a hub where you buy supplies.
  • Send comrades on errands to bring back food and materials, which feeds your cooking.
  • The research/tech tree unlocks Abyss item recipes and Palmar Pills. Check back whenever you have new resources.

Suggested Early-to-Mid Game Order

  • Follow the main story until the camp and Refinement are unlocked.
  • Ring nearby bell towers and unlock Abyss Nexus points so you can travel quickly.
  • Put Artifacts into Health, Stamina, Keen Senses, and Forward Slash on Kliff.
  • Refine your main weapon and armour to level 4 with materials only.
  • Clear Sealed Abyss Artifact altars you pass. They're your main source of skills.
  • Do Hernand side quests for inventory space and buy small bags.
  • Upgrade your horse and pick a merchant to build trust with.
  • Get Double Jump from Bilwise ("Unexpected Gift") when the quest comes up.
  • Push the main story to unlock the eight new Kliff skill upgrades.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Spreading Artifacts across everyone early. Kliff first. Abyss Links now reward other characters automatically.
  • Pushing Refinement past 4 too soon. It uses Artifacts you need for skills.
  • Copying your pre-2.00.00 build after the reset. Your refunds cover the new skills too, so rethink the build.
  • Ignoring bell towers and Nexus points. You'll waste hours travelling.
  • Selling bandit pouches. Merchant trust is worth more.
  • Going into bosses without quick-slot food or resistance dishes.
  • Relying on companions for damage. They're sturdier since 2.00.00, but they won't carry boss fights.

Advanced Tips

  • Plan a New Game run. Finishing all main quests lets a new game carry over Abyss Links and currencies, which makes a second, more experimental build much easier.
  • Chain Force Palm for vertical shortcuts even after you have Double Jump. The two combined cover a lot of ground.
  • Grapple-throw near ledges. Environmental kills are the quickest way to thin groups.
  • Refine for your playstyle. Pick one main weapon type early so your materials and Artifacts aren't split up.
  • Before the DLC: Charting the Unknown adds naval and underwater content on October 15, 2026. Finish or park your main-story save somewhere sensible, and stock up on currencies.

FAQ

Is Crimson Desert Enhanced a separate purchase? No. It's the free 2.00.00 update for everyone who owns Crimson Desert.

Why were my skills reset? Patch 2.00.00 reset all skill progress to bring in Abyss Links, and refunded everything, including Abyss Artifacts.

How do I get Double Jump? Since 2.00.00, from Bilwise in the quest "Unexpected Gift". Before that, chaining Force Palm was the usual workaround.

Is there leveling? No XP levels. You progress through Abyss Artifacts (skills) and Refinement (gear).

Who should I invest in? Kliff first. Other playable characters now get Abyss Links whenever you spend Artifacts.

When does the DLC come out? Charting the Unknown releases October 15, 2026, with naval combat and underwater exploration.

Which platforms is it on? PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Windows (Steam, Epic, Xbox on PC), and macOS. A Switch 2 version is planned for early 2027.
