This covers what happened to MultiVersus, what still works if you have it installed, and the core platform-fighter fundamentals and roster notes for getting the most out of local and training play.

Researched September 2026 — current as of the final Season 5 build. Online services ended 30 May 2025. Live games change; check the linked sources if something differs.

Status notice: MultiVersus has shut down online. Warner Bros. Games announced on 31 January 2025 that Season 5 (4 February – 30 May 2025) would be the last. Real-money purchases were disabled on 31 January 2025. On 30 May 2025 the servers closed and the game was removed from all storefronts. The game can no longer be downloaded or bought. If you downloaded the final version and logged in during Season 5, you can still play offline, with local multiplayer and training modes. In Offline Mode every fighter is available for free. Online modes (ranked, matchmaking, Rifts progression, battle pass, and the store) are permanently gone.

Quick Start

  • Check that you're eligible. You needed to log in at least once between 4 February and 30 May 2025 on the final version. If you did, launch the game and it should go into offline mode.
  • Don't uninstall it. Once it's gone you can't download it again, because the game is delisted. Keep the install. Backing up the game folder isn't a supported method, but it's your only safety net.
  • The whole roster is unlocked offline. Try every fighter in Training before picking a main for local nights.
  • Grab controllers. Local versus supports up to four players on one PC. It's the best way to play now.
  • Learn ringouts, not damage. Damage builds up a percentage-style meter that increases knockback. You win by knocking people past the blast zones.
  • Master dodging. Dodges are limited in the air and have cooldowns. Wasting them in the air is the number one way new players get rung out.
  • Treat 2v2 as the real game. MultiVersus was built around team play. Many fighters have ally-focused moves.

All fighters | Unlocked for free in offline mode

Online matchmaking, ranked, custom online lobbies | Gone

Rifts, events, battle pass, Fighter Road, store | Gone (online-dependent)

Buying or downloading the game | Gone (delisted everywhere)

Gleamium, tokens, and currency | No longer usable

Core Mechanics

Controls concept

MultiVersus uses a platform-fighter layout. There's an Attack button and a Special button, each combined with a direction (neutral, side, up, down) on the ground and in the air. There are also Jump and Dodge buttons. Most characters have a cooldown on at least one special. Check the move list in Training. All keybinds can be changed in the settings. Patch notes refer to moves by name, such as "Air Side Special" or "Ground Neutral Attack", so learning those names makes community tech easy to follow.

Damage and ringouts

  • Every hit increases the target's damage. Higher damage means more knockback.
  • You score by knocking an opponent past the stage boundaries. Standard matches go to a set number of ringouts.
  • Vertical kills (up attacks near the top) and side kills at the edges are the main finishers. Save your strongest launcher for high-damage targets.

Defense

  • Dodge in any direction to avoid attacks. Dodging into an attack at the right moment is how you escape combos.
  • Air dodges are limited until you land. Keep one for recovering to the stage.
  • Wall cling and wall jumps help you recover off stage.
  • Parrying projectiles: several perks and moves reward reflecting or dodging projectiles. The Season 4 1.4.1 patch changed Sturdy Dodger to give armor after parrying a projectile.

Status effects

Hits apply debuffs (weakened, slowed, and similar) and buffs (armor and damage boosts). Many characters' kits revolve around one status. Marceline's "bass rhythm" stacks and Batman's bat bomb are examples.

Perks

Each fighter has signature perks that change specific moves, plus a pool of general perks such as Static Electricity and Sturdy Dodger. In the final builds you pick a loadout before each match. Test perk combos in Training, since the online perk-unlock grind no longer applies.

Roster by Class

The final roster, grouped by class according to the MultiVersus wiki.gg community wiki:

Class | Fighters

Assassin | Arya Stark, Betelgeuse, Finn, Harley Quinn, Nubia, Stripe, Taz, The Powerpuff Girls

Bruiser | Agent Smith, Banana Guard, Batman, Black Adam, Garnet, Jake, LeBron James, Lola Bunny, Marceline, Samurai Jack, Shaggy

Mage / Ranged | Bugs Bunny, Gizmo, Marvin the Martian, Morty, Raven, Reindog, Rick, The Joker, Tom & Jerry, Velma

Tank | Aquaman, Iron Giant, Jason Voorhees, Steven Universe, Superman, Wonder Woman

Picking fighters for local play

  • New players: Tanks like Superman and Wonder Woman are durable and forgiving. Batman and Shaggy have simple, strong bruiser kits.
  • Ranged players: Bugs Bunny, Marvin, and Velma control space with projectiles and punish people who stand still.
  • Aggressive players: Assassins like Arya, Finn, and Harley Quinn are fast and combo-heavy, but fragile.
  • Team play: Steven Universe and Reindog have ally-focused tools (shields and tethering) that shine in 2v2.
  • Balance note: The last balance patches (Season 4 1.4.x) cut some infinite-style loops. Marceline's zero-to-death loops and a Powerpuff Girls combo were toned down in 1.4.5. Mid-2024 characters like Raven and Agent Smith were adjusted in 1.4.0–1.4.2. What you play offline is that final balance state.

Local Play Setup

  • Controllers: Connect gamepads before launching. Each player presses a button to join on the character select screen.
  • Stages: Pick larger stages (like the Batcave or the Treefort) for beginners and smaller stages for chaotic four-player free-for-alls. Throne Room is a solid neutral pick.
  • Rulesets: Use whatever custom-match options your build shows, such as ringout count and time limit. Short matches keep party nights moving, and longer ringout limits make serious 1v1s fairer.
  • Training mode lets you lab combos, perk interactions, and recovery routes. Use it to teach newer friends the dodge timing.

Fundamentals for Winning

  • Spacing: Attack from the edge of your range. Most whiffed attacks have recovery that opponents can punish.
  • Edge-guarding: When an opponent is off stage, cover their recovery path with a long-lasting hitbox or a projectile. Don't chase deep and risk your own ringout.
  • Team focus: In 2v2, focus the same target, since two players hitting one opponent builds damage twice as fast. Save a teammate by hitting whoever is comboing them.
  • Cooldown tracking: Know when your opponent's big special is on cooldown and push in during that window.
  • Recovery variety: Mix up double jumps, up specials, air dodges, and wall jumps so your return to stage is hard to read.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Uninstalling or letting the install break. You can't download it again.
  • Burning every air dodge. You'll have nothing left to recover with.
  • Chasing too deep off stage. Many ringouts are self-inflicted.
  • Fishing for combos you don't know. Stick to reliable strings and launch at high damage.
  • Ignoring your teammate in 2v2. Splitting up gives the enemy team free two-on-ones.
  • Expecting online features to come back. Nothing online has been announced to return.

Advanced Tips

  • Instant-dodge aerials: Several patch notes mention "Instant Dodge Aerial" specials, cancelling a dodge into an aerial special. It's a key movement tech for some fighters.
  • On-hit cancel windows: Many moves can be cancelled into another move when they connect. Patch notes list these per move. Learn them for your main in Training.
  • Hitstun and hitpause: Final patches reduced hitstun on several moves, which shortened combos. Build your combos around what actually connects in the final build.
  • Fall-speed control: Many attacks were changed in 1.4.0 to "limit fall speed during attack recovery". That affects how you land after aerials.
