A player-focused guide to Pirate Warriors 4: how combat and character types work, how to power up characters efficiently on the Soul Map, how the Dramatic Log and Treasure Log progress, the DLC roster through Character Pass 3, and tips for grinding S grades and achievements.
Researched September 2026 — current as of DLC Character Pack 8 (Eneru, King, Z; January 2026), the final pack of Character Pass 3. Live games change; check the linked sources if something differs.
Quick Start
- Play the Dramatic Log first. It's the story mode, adapting arcs from Alabasta through Wano, and it unlocks characters, coins, and Treasure Log content as you go.
- Learn your character's type. Every character is Power, Speed, Technique, or Sky. The type changes how they move and what their Power Dash does.
- Special Moves are your damage. You can equip several special moves and use them whenever their gauges fill. Use them constantly — they recharge.
- Full-Force Burst is your panic button and your clear button. When the gauge is full, activate it for a powered-up state; many characters also get a Form Change (like Luffy's Gear Four).
- Berries and coins build characters. Spend them on the Soul Map to raise stats, unlock skills, and level special moves.
- The Treasure Log is the endgame. It's a ladder of challenge episodes promoting you through East Blue, Grand Line, and New World ranks.
- Aim for S grades. Battle Grade S or better pays out more rewards; it's mostly about speed and kill count.
- Buildings break. Destroying stage objects is intended — it clears paths, reveals items, and counts toward an achievement.
Combat Basics
Attacks and mobility
- Normal and charged attacks combine into combos. Each character has a few charge-attack enders; learn the one that hits wide crowds and the one that hits hard single targets.
- Aerial combat. Most characters can launch into the air and continue combos. Sky type characters stay aloft far longer and fight primarily in the air ("Sky Walk" wants 10 seconds airborne).
- Power Dash. A type-specific dash used to close distance, break guards, or escape. You'll use it constantly ("Cola Energy" is 1,000 uses).
- Guard and dodge. Big bosses hit hard. Don't hold combos into a telegraphed super.
Character types
Type | Playstyle | Good at
Power | Heavy, wide attacks that wreck scenery | Crowds, bosses, beginners
Speed | Fast dashes and quick combos | Mobility-heavy objectives, time attack
Technique | Precise, combo-oriented movesets | Duels and bosses once you learn the moveset
Sky | Airborne combat, flight | Clearing crowds from above, dodging ground threats
Each type has a "win with a ___ type character" achievement, so try all four early.
Special Moves, skills, Full-Force Burst
- Special Moves: equipped moves with their own cooldowns. Level them up on the Soul Map; maxing all of a character's special moves unlocks "A King's Qualities."
- Skills: passive and active bonuses unlocked on the Soul Map ("Asura's Path" asks for 20 skills). Skill levels go up as you invest.
- Full-Force Burst: a powered-up state that boosts damage. Some characters change form ("Gear Four" is the achievement for defeating an enemy during Form Change).
Progression: Soul Map, Crew Level, Coins
The Soul Map is a node map of islands. Unlocking islands costs Berries (the in-game money) and coins (character-specific and generic tokens earned from battles). It's split into maps; clearing "The Beginning Map" is an early achievement.
Resource | Where it comes from | What it's for
Berries | Every battle, higher grades pay more | Soul Map islands, general upgrades
Coins | Battle drops and rewards; there are many types | Specific Soul Map nodes; "Bounty Hunter" wants 50 coin types
Crew Level | Using a character in battles | Stat growth per character; maxing it unlocks "Friends"
Action Growth Level | Using a character's moveset | Improves that character's actions; maxing it unlocks "Pirate Ranking"
Efficient upgrade order:
- Unlock stat islands (HP, attack) for your main character first.
- Level their best crowd-clearing special move.
- Grab survival skills before damage skills if you're failing Treasure Log episodes.
- Spread leftovers to the characters required for specific Treasure Log battles.
Modes
Mode | Content
Dramatic Log | Story mode across arcs: Introduction, Alabasta, Enies Lobby, Summit War, Entry to the New World, Whole Cake Island, and Land of Wano (a game-original take on the arc)
Free Log | Replay story episodes with any unlocked character
Treasure Log | Challenge ladder with ranks (East Blue, Grand Line, New World) and a "Deciding Battle" at the top of New World
Online | Co-op and online battles, including Giant Boss Battle, Total Bounty Battle, Timed Defense Battle, and Territory Battle
Dramatic Log tips
- Episodes often lock you to a character; that's fine. Use the unlocks to build your favorites later.
- Watch for side objectives — they boost the grade.
- Big bosses (Big Mom, Kaido, Blackbeard's crew) have super-armored phases. Save special moves and Full-Force Burst for when their guard drops.
Treasure Log strategy
- Start with East Blue episodes as soon as they open; they're easy coins and Berries.
- Some episodes require specific characters. Upgrade those on the Soul Map before retrying.
- Grand Line and New World episodes demand a well-built main. If you're stuck, go back and grind a high-yield Free Log stage.
- Clearing the New World "Deciding Battle" is an achievement and the effective endgame.
Roster and DLC
The base game has 43 playable characters; DLC adds 24 more, for 67 in total with every pack (per Wikipedia, counting through Character Pack 8). Key DLC:
Pack | Characters | Released
The Battle of Onigashima Pack | Luffy (Onigashima Battle) with Gear Five, Kaido (Onigashima Battle), Yamato | Announced on Steam September 2023
One Piece Film: Red Pack | Uta (Film: Red), Shanks (Film: Red), Koby (Film: Red) | January 2024
Legend Dawn Pack | Gol D. Roger, Rayleigh (Roger Pirates First Mate), Garp (Hero of the Marines) — plus the "Path of the King of the Pirates & Soul Map 3" episode pack | March 2024
Character Pack No.7 "Future Island Egghead Pack" (Character Pass 3) | Rob Lucci (CP0), Jewelry Bonney, S-Snake; each with an alternate outfit | November 21, 2025
Character Pack No.8 (Character Pass 3) | Eneru, King, Z | January 2026
Character Pass 3 also includes a bonus special technique for Shanks, "Divine Departure". Contents of each pass can also be bought separately.
DLC highlights
- Luffy (Onigashima Battle) transforms temporarily into Gear Five via a special move.
- Kaido (Onigashima Battle) hits multiple enemies in the air in his Dragon Form.
- Yamato switches to a Human-Beast form with ice attacks that freeze enemies.
- Uta uses Uta World and can transform into the Uta Knight to fly around the field.
- Eneru builds power through aerial attacks and releases it with a ground charge attack.
- King swaps between sword/kick/fist humanoid combat and a wide-sweeping beasthuman form.
- Z mixes close-range smashes with ranged fire and powers up his next charge attack after knocking enemies back.
Achievement Roadmap
All 40 Steam achievements are single-player friendly. Group them so you're not grinding the same thing twice:
Stage | Achievements | How
Story | Two of the Four Emperors stand in the way, My Friends' Seal, Declaration of War, The Times are Changing, Followers' Sake Cups, Onward to Wano!, A New Dawn | Clear each Dramatic Log arc (Introduction through Land of Wano)
First hours | I'm Getting Fired Up...!, Willing to Die For the Cause, Gear Four, Supernova, the four "won with a type" achievements, Sky Walk | Try every type and Form Change early
Collection | I Want Ten People, Grand Fleet (30 characters), Bounty Hunter (50 coin types), Gallery 25% and 75% | Follow the story and the Treasure Log
Character building | Fantastic Hardship, Push On Through!, Asura's Path (20 skills), One Step Towards The Dream, Friends, Pirate Ranking, A King's Qualities | Focus one main to max first
Long grinds | Family (20 characters' Crew Levels maxed), Rich Pirates (100 million Berries total), The Strongest Creature (100,000 total foes), The Power to Destroy the World (10,000 foes during Full-Force Burst), Cola Energy, The King of Destruction | These tick up over the whole run; farm S-grade stages with crowd clearers
Treasure Log | Adventures at Daybreak, Level G.L, The Name of that Sea is... (New World Deciding Battle) | The last is the hardest; bring a fully built main
The rarest on Steam are Rich Pirates, the New World Deciding Battle, and Family, so plan your long-term farming around them.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Spreading resources thin early. Build one or two mains before investing across the roster.
- Sitting on special moves. They're on cooldowns; waiting wastes damage.
- Ignoring grades. S grades pay much more; replaying for S is how you farm efficiently.
- Fighting bosses in their armored phase. Dodge and wait for openings.
- Skipping the Treasure Log. It's where the coins, challenges, and most achievements are.
- Underusing aerial combos. Many characters' best crowd damage is airborne.
Advanced Tips
- Farm with a Power type. Wide, destructive attacks rack up kills and object destruction for S grades and "The King of Destruction."
- Kill counts matter. "One in a Thousand" wants 1,000 kills in one battle; pick a large crowd stage in Free Log with a crowd-clearer.
- Full-Force Burst timing. Activate it when a big crowd is on screen; "The Power to Destroy the World" counts total foes toppled during it.
- Online co-op for grinding. A second player splits crowd duty and makes tough objectives much faster.
- Coins guide your choices. Check which character coins you're missing before choosing Free Log stages.
- Gallery completion comes naturally from progress; 75% is an achievement.
