Dark Arisen at a glance
- Forsaken Dominion: the new story, set in the long-abandoned, snowy northern region of Norgan. You work with a character named Eir to uncover the secrets of the undying Fallen Dragon. Recommended starting level is around 40.
- Lost Rites: 12 dungeon challenges (the Pathfinder's trials) spread through Vermund and Battahl, recommended from around level 20. Capcom says you can access them early by speaking with Brant at the tavern after arriving in Vernworth. They hide rare equipment once held by past Arisen.
- Relic Expedition Cycle: an evolved version of the original Dark Arisen's loot-driven loop; relics found in Norgan unlock powerful new weapons and skills.
- New skills for the vocations. No new vocation has been announced as of September 2026.
- New enemies, plus new hairstyles and tattoos in the character creator.
- The original Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen director, Kento Kinoshita, returns to direct.
Quick Start
- Your main pawn is your most important companion. Build it to cover what you don't do. You also hire two more pawns from other players through Riftstones.
- Use the new six skill slots. Since TU 3.2 every vocation can slot six skills instead of four, which changes how flexible builds are. Revisit your loadouts.
- Get the Eternal Ferrystone. Added in June 2026, it's reusable, so fast travel between portcrystals no longer eats consumables.
- Don't go out at night unprepared. Night is dark and dangerous. Carry lantern oil and a camping kit, and head back before it gets late early on.
- Stay out of deep water. The Brine pulls anyone who goes too deep under.
- Losing max health is normal. Taking damage and getting knocked down reduces your maximum health; rest at an inn or camp to restore it.
- Carry a Wakestone. It revives the dead (including NPCs). Three Wakestone Shards combine into one.
- Climb big monsters. Grab onto them to reach weak points; strength and stamina matter.
- Watch for Dragonsplague. It spreads between pawns. TU 3.2 makes it easier to spot and adds a simpler cure; act on it when you see it.
- Keep multiple saves. TU 3.2 increased save slots. Use them before big story beats instead of relying on the single autosave-driven flow the game launched with.
Vocations
Vocation | Weapons | Pawn-usable | Notes
Fighter | Sword and shield | Yes | Tank, block, protect the party
Archer | Bow | Yes | Ranged precision damage
Mage | Staff | Yes | Healing, buffs, elemental enchants
Thief | Daggers | Yes | Fast, agile, great at climbing monsters
Warrior | Two-handed swords/hammers | Yes | Huge, slow, stagger-focused damage
Sorcerer | Archistaff | Yes | Long-cast, massive area magick
Mystic Spearhand | Duospear | Arisen only | Melee and magick hybrid
Magick Archer | Magick bow | Arisen only | Homing magick arrows and support shots
Trickster | Censer | Arisen only | Illusions and manipulation; little direct damage
Warfarer | Any weapon | Arisen only | Jack of all trades; swap weapons and use skills from other vocations, with lower base stats as the trade-off
Unlocking
- Fighter, Archer, Mage and Thief are available from the start.
- Warrior and Sorcerer unlock at the Vocation Guild once you reach it in Vernworth.
- Mystic Spearhand, Magick Archer, Trickster and Warfarer are Arisen-only hybrids. Each is unlocked by finding its Maister (a master of the vocation) and building a relationship or completing their request.
Augments and ranks
- Leveling a vocation's rank unlocks new skills and augments (passive bonuses). Augments can be equipped on any vocation, so leveling several vocations gives you more choice.
- Warfarer especially benefits from ranks in other vocations, since it can use their skills.
Pawns
- Main pawn: Created at the start, levels with you and follows you everywhere. Choose its vocation to complement yours.
- Support pawns: Hire up to two more at Riftstones. Pawns at or below your level are free; higher-level ones cost Rift Crystals.
- Pawn knowledge: Pawns that have completed quests or explored areas in other players' worlds can guide you. Hire pawns who know the quest you're on.
- Gifts and ratings: When you dismiss a hired pawn, you can send it back with a gift and rating. Your own main pawn earns Rift Crystals when others hire it.
- Specializations: Pawns can learn specializations from certain NPCs that give them non-combat utility, such as translating or crafting help.
Dragonsplague
- An infection that spreads between pawns. Early signs include a pawn acting strangely and red glowing eyes.
- Left untreated, an afflicted pawn can eventually cause catastrophic damage to a town.
- TU 3.2 made it easier to notice when a pawn is afflicted, added enhanced combat behavior for afflicted pawns, and introduced a new, simpler way to cure it. If one of your pawns is flagged, deal with it straight away; dismissing a hired pawn that's infected is always an option.
Travel and Survival
- Oxcarts run between major towns; you can ride them (though they can be ambushed).
- Portcrystals are fast-travel destinations; you can place a few yourself.
- Ferrystones teleport you to portcrystals. The June 2026 Eternal Ferrystone is reusable.
- Camping: Camp at campsites with a camping kit to rest, cook meat and restore health. Night-time camps can be attacked.
- Inns and your house also restore health.
- Weight: Heavy inventories slow you and drain stamina. Stash items at inns via storage.
Monster Guide
Monster | Weak point and tactics
Cyclops | Eye is the weak spot; armored ones need their armor broken or climbed around
Ogre | Heavy grab attacks; climb and hit the head
Griffin | Fire and grounding it by grabbing the wings; take it down before it flies away
Chimera | Kill the snake tail first, then the goat head, then the lion
Golem | Destroy the glowing medallions on its body
Medusa | Petrifying gaze; attack from behind or sever the head
Drake / Lesser Dragon | Glowing heart on the chest is the weak point; watch the breath
Minotaur, Garm, Sphinx | Minotaurs charge, Garm are fast and hit hard, the Sphinx is a riddle encounter rather than a straight fight
Lich, Dullahan | Undead threats; bring appropriate elements and restoratives
General rules:
- Climb big monsters to reach weak points. Thieves and Mystic Spearhands are excellent climbers.
- Stagger and knock down with Warriors and big skills, then hit weak points while they're down.
- Use the environment: cliffs, fire and water can all end fights early.
Story Structure and Points of No Return (Spoiler-Light)
- Vermund: You start as the Arisen in Vermund and get pulled into court intrigue in the capital, Vernworth.
- Battahl: The beastren nation to the south, with its own capital and politics.
- Late game: The main quest escalates through the Dragon.
- The Unmoored World: After a key story turning point the world changes dramatically and a countdown begins. This is effectively a point of no return; many side quests become unavailable. Finish the side content you care about before triggering it.
- Endings: The game has more than one ending path. The obvious path is not the full story; if you want the true ending, look up the requirements before the final chapters so you don't take the first exit.
With TU 3.2's extra save slots, keep a dedicated save before the Unmoored World and before the final choices.
Build Suggestions
Arisen | Main pawn | Why it works
Warrior | Mage | Mage heals and enchants your weapon; you stagger everything
Thief | Fighter | Fighter tanks and protects; you climb and shred weak points
Mystic Spearhand | Archer | Archer handles fliers and weak spots at range
Magick Archer | Fighter or Warrior | A frontline holds aggro while your homing arrows do work
Sorcerer | Fighter | Fighter protects you while you cast; hire a Mage for healing
Warfarer | Mage | Warfarer mixes weapons and skills; Mage keeps you alive
Always hire at least one healer-capable pawn (Mage) until you're comfortable.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Ignoring max health loss. Rest regularly; don't push dungeons with half your max HP gone.
- Swimming too far out. The Brine is instant trouble.
- Night travel early on without oil or a camp plan.
- Leaving Dragonsplague untreated.
- Sticking to one vocation. Augments from other vocations are big power gains.
- Triggering the Unmoored World with side quests unfinished.
- Not using the Eternal Ferrystone and walking everywhere when you don't want to.
- Overloading your inventory and wondering why you're out of stamina.
Advanced Tips
- Six skill slots change pawn builds too. Revisit your main pawn's skills after TU 3.2.
- Level Thief early for climbing and stamina-friendly augments.
- Hire pawns with quest knowledge for escort and investigation quests.
- Stash Wakestones for bosses and for NPCs you want to keep alive.
- Use the Rift to your advantage: well-built main pawns earn Rift Crystals from other players.
- Prepare for Dark Arisen: bank some gear upgrades and Rift Crystals, and get a vocation you enjoy to a high rank. Level matters too: the Lost Rites are pitched at around level 20 and the Forsaken Dominion story at around level 40.
