A start-to-endgame guide for Palworld after its full 1.0 release: first-day priorities, catching and base building, breeding and the new Mutation and Awakening systems, tower bosses, Sunreach and the World Tree, and the mistakes that slow players down.
Researched September 2026 — current as of v1.0.5 (September 15, 2026), following the 1.0 launch on July 10, 2026. Live games change; check the linked sources if something differs.
Quick Start
- 1.0 is a big reset in feel. The game left Early Access on July 10, 2026 with a reworked main story, 72 new Pals, a level cap of 80, two new regions (Sunreach and the World Tree), and overhauled combat and raids. Old guides from 2024–2025 are often out of date.
- Catch everything early. Catch bonuses and early XP come from catching new species. In 1.0 the Capture Bonus kicks in after just five captures of a species (down from 12), and Pals are easier to catch on average.
- Build a Palbox immediately. It defines your base, lets you store Pals, and lets you respawn there.
- Put Pals to work. Every Pal has Work Suitabilities (now up to 10 levels). Match Pals to jobs: Kindling for cooking and smelting, Watering for crops, Mining for ore, Handiwork for crafting.
- Keep Pals fed and rested. Feed Box, beds, and a steady food supply (Berry Plantation early, then wheat and other crops) prevent hunger and sanity problems.
- Spend Technology Points wisely. Unlock what you need to progress (Pal Spheres, gear, base structures), not every decoration.
- Pick up Lifmunk Effigies. Offering them at the Statue of Power raises your capture power.
- Tower bosses gate progression. Beat them for Ancient Technology Points and to unlock the story. In 1.0, tower fights have a five-minute limit.
- Get a mount and a glider fast. Ground mounts save hours; the new Wing Pack lets you glide/fly without a Pal.
- Raids now come in waves. Build defenses before expanding your base; base defenses no longer need ammunition.

Post-launch patches: v1.0.1 (July 15) and v1.0.2 (July 29) fixed bugs; v1.0.3 (August 12) brought balance adjustments; v1.0.4 (September 7) added the missions "Beyond Dimensions" and "From the Far Side of the Moon," fishing and building tweaks, Palpedia search, and a per-player building-limit server setting; v1.0.5 (September 15) fixed low-resolution textures and map filter resets.
Day One Priorities
- Punch trees and rocks, grab fibers and stones. Craft a Primitive Workbench, then a stone axe and stone pickaxe.
- Craft Pal Spheres (Paldium Fragments come from blue ore near water and rivers; grind them from stone later).
- Place your Palbox on flat ground near wood, stone, and water. Flat land matters for building.
- Build: Wooden Chest, Feed Box, Straw Pal Beds, a Berry Plantation, and a campfire for cooking.
- Catch early workers: Lamball and Chikipi for wool and eggs, Cattiva and Lifmunk for handiwork and transport, Foxparks for kindling, Pengullet for watering, Tanzee for planting and lumbering, Depresso for mining.
- Unlock a saddle for your first mount once you reach it in the tech tree.
- Explore toward fast travel points (Great Eagle Statues) and pick up Lifmunk Effigies along the way.
Catching Pals
- Weaken first. Lower HP increases capture chance. Status effects and back attacks help.
- Use the right sphere tier. Sphere tiers scale up as you progress (Pal Sphere, Mega, Giga, Hyper, Ultra, Legendary, and beyond). Higher-level Pals need stronger spheres.
- Capture power goes up through Lifmunk Effigies offered at the Statue of Power.
- Alpha Pals (larger, named bosses in the overworld) are strong early catches and have boosted stats.
- Catch duplicates. Extras go into the Pal Essence Condenser to raise a Pal's condensation rank; in 1.0 fewer Pals are needed.
Base Building and Work
Layout Tips
- Keep crafting stations close to storage so Pals don't walk across the base.
- Put the Feed Box and beds somewhere central; hungry, tired Pals slow down.
- Build defensive walls and turrets at the base edges before your base is big enough to attract serious raids.
- Coastal bases are now possible with the Aquatic Construction Kit — useful for fishing and scenic builds, but expect raids to come from multiple angles.
Work Suitabilities
Suitability | What It Does | Typical Stations
Kindling | Heats things | Cooking pot, furnaces
Watering | Waters crops | Plantations
Planting | Sows seeds | Plantations
Generating Electricity | Powers electric machines | Power Generator
Handiwork | Crafts at workbenches | All crafting stations
Gathering | Harvests crops and items | Plantations
Lumbering | Cuts trees | Logging Site
Mining | Mines ore | Stone Pit, Ore Mining Site
Medicine Production | Makes medicine | Medicine Workbench
Cooling | Keeps food fresh | Cooler Box, Refrigerator
Transporting | Moves items to storage | Chests
Farming | Produces ranch items | Ranch
Higher-level suitability means faster work. Pals with multiple high-level suitabilities are worth more than one strong fighter at home.
Breeding, Mutations, and Awakening
- Breeding Farm + Cake: place two Pals of opposite gender in a Breeding Farm with Cake in its box to produce eggs. Incubate eggs in an Egg Incubator (Large and bigger eggs take longer).
- Passive skills: children can inherit passives from parents. Breed to stack the passives you want on combat Pals or workers.
- Mutations (1.0): a low-probability breeding outcome that produces Pals with higher stats and unique passive skills. The four new cakes help you aim breeding toward specific goals.
- Awakening (1.0): collect Radiant Gems in the World Tree and use them on Pals to unlock hidden power beyond Souls and passives. This is the core endgame power system — plan which Pals deserve your gems.
- Pal Souls: feed Small/Medium/Large Pal Souls at the Statue of Power to upgrade a Pal's stats.
Combat
- Your character fights too. Craft bows, then firearms. In 1.0, dodge became a dash and you can attack while dashing, so stay mobile.
- Element matchups matter. Fire beats Grass and Ice, Water beats Fire, Electric beats Water, Ground beats Electric, Grass beats Ground, Ice beats Dragon, Dragon beats Dark, Dark beats Neutral. Bring a Pal that hits the boss's weakness.
- Partner Skills were revised on 200+ Pals, so re-check the Pals you relied on before 1.0.
- Armor and shields: upgrade armor regularly and craft Shields. Heat- and cold-resistant armor matter for volcano and snow biomes.
Tower Bosses and the Main Story
The tower bosses are faction leaders paired with a Pal. There are eight towers, listed here by boss level (per the Palworld wiki):
Order | Boss | Pal | Level | Region | Element to Bring
1 | Zoe | Grizzbolt | 10 | Windswept Island | Ground (vs Electric)
2 | Lily | Lyleen | 20 | Crescent Moon Shore | Fire (vs Grass)
3 | Axel | Orserk | 30 | Mount Obsidian | Ice (vs Dragon) or Ground (vs Electric)
4 | Marcus | Faleris | 40 | Desiccated Dunes | Water (vs Fire)
5 | Victor | Shadowbeak | 50 | Astral Mountains | Dragon (vs Dark)
6 | Saya | Selyne | 55 | Sakurajima Island | Check its element in the Palpedia
7 | Bjorn | Bastigor | 60 | Feybreak Island | Check its element in the Palpedia
8 | Auri | Shaolong | 68 | Sunreach (Azure Covenant Tower) | Check its element in the Palpedia
Beating Auri and Shaolong unlocks a harder mode for towers you've already cleared. In 1.0 every boss got reworked fights and rebalanced difficulty, and fights have a five-minute timer, so bring damage, not just survivability.
Tips:
- Over-level slightly and bring a Pal strong against the boss's element.
- Use healing items between phases and dodge (dash) through big attacks.
- Clearing towers grants Ancient Technology Points — spend them on key items like the Pal Essence Condenser upgrades, high-tier spheres, and endgame gear.
Progression Outline
Stage | Goals
Early (levels 1–15) | Base, workers, first mount, first tower (Zoe & Grizzbolt), bows and early armor
Mid (15–40) | Metal ingots, firearms, electricity, flying mount, second and third towers
Late (40–65) | Refined ingots, Pal Metal, high-tier spheres, towers 4–7 (Marcus through Bjorn), breeding for passives
Endgame (65–80) | Sunreach and the Azure Covenant Tower (Auri), the World Tree, Radiant Gems for Awakening, Mutation breeding, raids
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Following pre-1.0 guides for catch rates, condensation numbers, or Partner Skills — many changed.
- Building on uneven terrain, which breaks foundations and pathing.
- Overfilling your base with fighters instead of balanced workers.
- Ignoring Pal sanity: overworked Pals get sick or depressed. Use beds, hot springs, and good food.
- Skipping defenses. Wave-based raids scale with your workers' levels, so a strong base still needs walls and turrets.
- Wasting Radiant Gems on Pals you'll replace later.
- Carrying everything. Weight limits slow you down; drop items in chests and use a Pal with carrying capacity.
Advanced Tips
- Plan a mining base near ore nodes (especially Sunreach's special ores) and a separate farming base for food.
- Use Negotiation to cancel some raids for gold when your base isn't ready.
- Breed for passive stacks first, then chase Mutations on your final picks, then Awaken them. Doing it in the opposite order wastes gems.
- Use the Plasma Multicutter to gather while mounted — it massively speeds up resource runs.
- Set up a Palpedia routine. v1.0.4 added Palpedia search, which makes planning breeding paths and hunting locations easier.
- Dedicated servers: v1.0.4 added a per-player building limit setting. Server hosts should update after each patch because clients and servers must match versions.
