How to get the most out of LEGO Marvel Super Heroes: the 15 story levels, Free Play, the collectibles that count toward 100%, which characters unlock the most secrets, the Manhattan hub, and the achievements people usually miss.
Researched September 2026 — the PC version is a finished game from 2013 with no recent patches; the latest Steam news is a WB Games LEGO sale (July–August 2026). Check the linked sources if something differs.
Quick Start
- Finish Story mode first. Story levels lock you to specific characters. You can't grab most collectibles until you replay in Free Play.
- Free Play is where 100% happens. Replay each level with any unlocked characters to reach hidden areas.
- Studs are for buying characters and Red Brick extras. Collect everything; later, stud multipliers make money trivial.
- Gold Bricks drive completion. You earn them from levels, challenges, and the Manhattan hub.
- Stan Lee is in peril in every level and around the city. Rescuing all of them is its own achievement ("Stan-tastic").
- Use the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier as your base. It's the hub for replaying levels, the character customizer, and Deadpool's bonus content.
- Unlock a few key characters early (listed below) and Free Play becomes much faster.
- Big-fig characters like the Hulk smash things normal figures can't.
- Build everything that bounces. Shaking LEGO piles hide studs and objectives.
- Co-op is local drop-in/drop-out. A second player can join any time.

Bonus missions | Narrated by Deadpool, each with its own story

Collectibles That Count Toward 100%
Collectible | Where it comes from
Gold Bricks | Level completion, level challenges, the hub, races and side content
Minikits | Hidden in story levels; collect all in a level to build its bonus vehicle
Stan Lee in Peril | One in each story level, plus many in Manhattan
True Believer | Fill the stud meter in a level to earn True Believer status
Characters | Unlock tokens found in levels and the city; buy them with studs
Vehicles | Unlocked via minikits and the hub
Red Bricks | Earned in the game, then bought with studs to unlock extras such as stud multipliers
Deadpool bonus content | Deadpool's missions and room on the Helicarrier
Tips:
- The pause menu tracks which Minikits and whether the Stan Lee rescue are done in each level, so you can see what you're missing.
- True Believer status is easiest after you buy stud multipliers with Red Bricks.
- Many collectibles need a specific ability (see the next section). If you can't reach something, it usually needs a power you don't have yet.
Abilities That Unlock Hidden Areas
Free Play is all about having the right power. Characters with these abilities cover most puzzles:
Ability | Example characters | What it opens
Flight | Iron Man | Out-of-reach platforms and objects
Super strength (big-fig) | Hulk, the Thing | Big orange handles, heavy objects, cracked walls
Spider-sense and web-slinging | Spider-Man | Hidden objects, web-swing points, wall crawling
Shield toss | Captain America | Distant switches and shield panels
Magnetism | Magneto | Magnetic objects
Stretch | Mister Fantastic | Squeezing through gaps and stretch puzzles
Unibeam / lasers | Iron Man | Reflective and gold objects
Regeneration | Wolverine | Heals himself back up
Mind control / telekinesis | Psychic characters | Moving objects with the mind
Growing / shrinking | Size-changing characters | Tiny passages and oversized objects
Unlock a flyer, a big-fig, a spider character, and a mind-control character early and you'll handle most Free Play puzzles.
LEGO Manhattan
- Explore on foot, by flying, by web-swinging, or in vehicles.
- Landmarks include Stark Tower, the Baxter Building, Liberty Island, and Ryker's Island.
- The city is full of Gold Bricks, Stan Lee rescues, races, and character tokens.
- Destroying 100 vehicles in the hub gets "Road Rage."
- Driving to the Baxter Building as Magneto in the Magneto Mobile gets "Menace of Magneto."
- Skydive off the Helicarrier for "Falling... with Style."
Hub tip: do the city collectibles once you have a wide roster, so you're not blocked by missing powers.
Characters Worth Getting
LEGO Marvel has about 180 characters. Some unlock collectible achievements on their own:
Achievement | Requirement
Really? | Collect Howard the Duck
Welcome to Level 7 | Play as Agent Coulson
Bad Luck? | Unlock Black Cat
I Am Iron Man | Collect all Iron Man armors
Avengers Assembled | Collect all Avengers characters
Guardians of the Galaxy | Unlock all the Guardians of the Galaxy
Sinister Six | Collect Doc Ock, Sandman, Mysterio, Kraven the Hunter, Electro, and Vulture
Brotherhood | Collect all traditionally evil mutants
To Me, My X-Men | Collect all traditionally heroic mutants
Zoo Believer | Unlock all animal-themed characters
Ultimate True Believer | Unlock all True Believers
Most of these are single-player only. Stan Lee himself unlocks after you rescue every Stan Lee in peril, and he's one of the most versatile characters in the game.

Recommended Completion Order
- Play Story mode through level 15 and watch the credits (House Party Protocol).
- Do some hub exploring as you go, but don't grind it yet.
- Find the Red Bricks for stud multipliers and buy them. This makes everything else faster.
- Replay each level in Free Play for Minikits, Stan Lee, and True Believer.
- Clean up Manhattan: Gold Bricks, Stan Lees, races, and tokens.
- Buy the remaining characters with your now-huge stud total.
- Pick up the fun achievements from the table above.
Free Play Level Checklist
Use this routine every time you replay a level in Free Play:
- Check the pause menu to see which Minikits and whether Stan Lee are still missing.
- Break everything in each room for studs; True Believer depends on it.
- Look for colored interaction points (glowing panels, handles, and objects). Each hints at a specific ability.
- Switch to the matching character and solve it before you move to the next room.
- Don't leave a room with an unsolved puzzle. Backtracking in LEGO levels is slow.
- Watch the minikit counter as you finish each section so you know where you missed one.
- Finish the level with the stud meter full for True Believer.
Handy abilities checklist before a Free Play session
Need | Have ready
Flight and lasers | Iron Man
Heavy lifting and smashing | Hulk
Spider-sense and web-swinging | Spider-Man
Shield panels | Captain America
Magnetic objects | Magneto
Stretch puzzles | Mister Fantastic
With these six unlocked you'll handle most Free Play puzzles; the rest need more specialized characters.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Hunting collectibles in Story mode. You'll get stuck; wait for Free Play.
- Ignoring Red Bricks. Stud multipliers change the whole grind.
- Dying constantly on a True Believer attempt. Deaths cost studs. Play carefully or use a stronger character.
- Forgetting co-op-only achievements until you've uninstalled.
- Grinding the city too early before you have the powers to reach things.
Advanced Tips
- Switch characters quickly in Free Play. The game picks relevant characters for your party; cycle through them for the right power.
- Use Iron Man for flight and lasers as a default; he solves many puzzles alone.
- The Hulk transforms from Bruce Banner. Transforming 50 times is an achievement, so do it naturally as you play.
- Deadpool's bonus missions are separate content with their own rewards. Knock them out once you have a strong roster.
- Custom characters can mix abilities, which makes a handy "Swiss army knife" figure for hub cleanup.
