A guide to RGG Studio's Judgment on PC: Yagami's two fighting styles, Mortal Wounds, investigation mechanics, side cases and friends, the minigames, missable achievements and the best PC settings.

Researched September 2026 — current as of PC version 1.12 (March 29, 2023, the latest patch; the game is complete and no longer receives updates). Live games change; check the linked sources if something differs.

Quick Start

  • You play Takayuki Yagami, a former defense attorney turned private detective in Kamurocho, with ex-yakuza partner Masaharu Kaito.
  • Two fighting styles. Crane for crowds, Tiger for one-on-one. Switch mid-fight depending on how many enemies are around.
  • Mortal Wounds are the big new mechanic. Certain attacks (weapons, special boss moves) permanently lower your maximum health until treated. Regular healing items will not fix them.
  • Carry a Mortal Wound cure. You can buy expensive treatment kits or visit an underground doctor. Do not go into a boss fight wounded.
  • Spend SP constantly. Skill points from fights, cases and activities unlock moves, health, and investigation perks.
  • Side Cases and Friends are where the city lives. Many unlock skills, items and helpers; don't leave them all for the end.
  • Use the drone. It is an investigation tool, a racing minigame and a source of achievements.
  • Look for stray cats in search mode during the main story. Finding them all is an achievement, and it is tied to story investigations.
  • Use the KamuroGo app on Yagami's phone to track City Missions and Shop Missions.

Main Characters (Spoiler-Light)

Character | Who they are

Takayuki Yagami | Protagonist; disgraced lawyer, now a PI

Masaharu Kaito | Yagami's partner, a former yakuza

Ryuzo Genda | Yagami's mentor at the Genda Law Office

Kyohei Hamura | A yakuza captain central to the case

Mitsuru Kuroiwa | A detective tied to the investigation

The story follows a string of grisly murders in Kamurocho in which the victims' eyes are removed, and a legal thriller that runs deep beneath the district's underworld.

Combat

Styles

Style | Best for | Notes

Crane | Groups | Wide sweeping attacks, good crowd control, moves you around the fight

Tiger | One-on-one | Heavy focused strikes, better for bosses and tough enemies

  • EX Boost: fill the EX Gauge and activate a boosted state for more damage and resilience.
  • EX Actions: context-sensitive finishers using the environment, weapons or wall positions. They cost EX Gauge but do heavy damage.
  • Parkour: Yagami can run off walls and leapfrog enemies; use it to reposition and escape corners.
  • Weapons: pick up bikes, signs and other objects for high damage, especially with EX Actions.

Mortal Wounds

Mortal Wounds are special injuries from specific attacks. They permanently reduce your maximum health and stack until treated. Per Wikipedia, you cure them by visiting underground doctors or buying expensive medical kits. Tips:

  • Keep at least one cure in your inventory before chapter-ending boss fights.
  • Learn which enemy attacks cause them (usually weapon or special moves) and dodge those.
  • Skills in the tree can make you more resistant; prioritise them if you keep getting wounded.

Skill priorities

  • Health and EX Gauge upgrades early.
  • Core Crane and Tiger combo extensions.
  • EX Actions that fit your playstyle.
  • Investigation perks (for example, faster lockpicking or better detection) as you meet those minigames.
  • Everything else; obtaining all skills is "Skill Master".

Investigation Mechanics

Mechanic | How it works | Tip

Search mode | First-person view to find clues in a scene | Scan slowly; stray cats hide in some scenes

Tailing | Follow a suspect without being seen | Keep distance, hide when they turn around

Chases | Pursue a fleeing suspect through the streets | Hit the button prompts to vault obstacles

Lockpicking | Minigame to open doors | Patience; the skill tree helps

Disguises | Blend in to reach restricted areas | Choose the right outfit for the location

Drone | Remote-controlled scouting | Upgrade parts; also used in racing

Presenting evidence | Choose the right clue or statement in key conversations | Think like a lawyer; "Professional Password Presenter" and related achievements reward accuracy

Stray cats: during main-story search mode segments, hidden cats appear in the scenes. Finding them all ("Oh Look, a Cat!") is one of the few missables; check every search scene carefully.

Side Content

Side Cases

Found via notice boards, NPCs and the agency. They range from comedy to serious, and many reward SP, items, or new Friends. Clearing 10 ("On the Case"), 30 ("Local Detective") and all side cases ("Got to the Bottom of It") are achievements.

Friends

Yagami's friendship system tracks relationships with Kamurocho's residents (shop owners, locals and more). Making 10, 30 and 50 friends are achievements. Friends provide perks, discounts and help, and some friendship events unlock new abilities or items.

Dating

Some Friend storylines develop into dating-sim style relationships. Achievements track one, two and four girls revealing their feelings.

KamuroGo app

  • City Missions: small tasks around the district (10, 30 and all are achievements).
  • Shop Missions: complete tasks at shops (5, 10 and all are achievements). Shopping 100 times is "Retail Therapy".

Minigames and arcade

  • Drone racing with upgradeable parts (all parts is "Drone Enthusiast").
  • Kamuro of the Dead, an arcade zombie shooter (50 pickups is an achievement).
  • Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown and other classic SEGA arcade titles (playing every arcade game is "The Gamer Life").
  • A VR board game, darts, and casino games including blackjack and poker.

Ebisu Pawn

A pawn shop that buys items; selling 100 items is "Pawn Star". Use it to turn junk into cash.

Difficulty

Judgment has several difficulty levels up to Legend. Finishing on Legend ("Detective of Legend") is one of the rarest achievements. On Legend, Mortal Wounds and boss damage are far more punishing, so over-prepare cures and healing items and max out health skills first.

Achievement Roadmap

  • Main story on Normal while doing side content as you go. Grab stray cats in every search scene.
  • Side content cleanup: side cases, friends, City and Shop Missions, drone parts.
  • Minigames: all arcade games, Kamuro of the Dead pickups, drone racing.
  • Legend run (can be a separate playthrough) with a strong skill loadout.
  • KamuroGo Master (100% completion) and The Greatest Detective (all other achievements) fall into place last.

PC Settings and Fixes

  • Upscalers: the PC version supports NVIDIA DLSS and DLAA (added December 2022), AMD FSR 2.1, and Intel XeSS (updated to 1.1 in v1.12).
  • Steam Deck: since December 2022, first boot on Steam Deck uses FSR 2.1 at 60 FPS.
  • V-Sync issue that sped up the game was fixed in patch 1.10.
  • Hide the dialogue skip prompt: open %appdata%\SEGA\Judgment\Steam, edit graphics.ini, change hide_skip_prompt_in_dialogues=0 to 1, and save.
  • Windows 10 requirement: Windows 10 version 1703 (build 15063) or later.
  • High frame rates: early patches fixed blackjack/poker and a drone friend event getting stuck at high frame rates; stay on the latest version.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Fighting a boss with Mortal Wounds. Treat them first.
  • Ignoring Tiger style against bosses. Crane is great for crowds but weaker one-on-one.
  • Rushing search scenes. You will miss cats and clues.
  • Leaving Friends until post-game. Many give useful perks early.
  • Hoarding junk. Sell it at Ebisu Pawn.
  • Skipping skill upgrades for investigation. Tailing and lockpicking get easier with the right skills.

Advanced Tips

  • Crane into Tiger: open with Crane to scatter groups, then switch to Tiger for the last tough enemy.
  • EX Actions near walls: many devastating finishers need a wall or object; fight near them.
  • Save EX Boost for bosses and big groups rather than burning it on trash.
  • Drone in first person for 60 seconds is an easy achievement ("Electronic Perspective").
  • Keep cash flowing: Ebisu Pawn, side cases and casino games fund Mortal Wound cures.
  • Sequel: after Judgment, Lost Judgment continues Yagami and Kaito's story.

FAQ

Do I need to play Yakuza first? No. Judgment is a standalone story set in the same Kamurocho district.

What are Mortal Wounds and how do I cure them? Special injuries that lower max health until cured with expensive medical kits or a visit to an underground doctor.

What is the best fighting style? Crane for groups, Tiger for single strong enemies; switch between them.

Are there missable achievements? The stray cats in main-story search mode are the main one to watch.

How long is Judgment? The main story is long for an action game and side content can double it; the achievement list includes 100% completion of Kamurocho.

Does the PC version include DLC? Per Wikipedia, the 2021 remaster includes all the downloadable content from the original PS4 release, and the September 2022 Steam version followed that remaster.
