How to go viral in Content Warning: the three-day quota loop, what to buy, how to film monsters for views, surviving the Old World, sponsorships and MetaCoins, crossplay, and mods.
Researched September 2026 — current as of Patch 1.24.0 (April 30, 2026), after the April 1, 2026 console launch and crossplay update. Live games change; check the linked sources if something differs.
What Content Warning Is
Content Warning (Landfall, April 1, 2024) is a 2-4 player co-op horror comedy. You and your crew ride a diving bell down to the Old World, film the monsters, cursed relics and each other's panic, then come back up and upload the footage to SpöökTube. Views earn ad revenue for gear. Hit the view quota within three days or the run ends.
The game was free for its first 24 hours on Steam and was claimed by around 6.2 million players. In April 2026 it launched on PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 1 and 2 with crossplay added to the Steam version. Landfall has said Content Warning is not a live-service game, so updates are occasional patches rather than a content roadmap.
Quick Start
- One dive per day, three days per quota. Only one trip to the Old World is allowed each day. Make each one count.
- Someone always holds the camera. A run without footage earns nothing. Pass the camera to whoever is least likely to die.
- Film monsters close up and in action. Monsters doing things (chasing, attacking a teammate) are worth far more views than a monster standing in the distance.
- Watch your oxygen. The dive has an oxygen timer. Leave enough time to walk back to the diving bell.
- Carry the camera back. If the cameraman dies, pick up the camera. Footage only counts if a camera makes it back up in the bell.
- Upload at the house TV and watch together. The views arrive as your video plays out on SpöökTube.
- Spend early money on flashlights and a second camera. More light keeps you alive; more cameras mean more footage and a backup.
- Use emotes and props on camera. Players being silly next to a monster is exactly what SpöökTube wants.
- Dead players aren't gone for good. They're out for the rest of that dive; the run only fails if you miss the quota.
The Core Loop
- Surface (the house and island). Buy gear from the shop computer, pick sponsorships, customize your ASCII face, and wait for the drone to drop off purchases.
- Dive. Everyone gets in the diving bell and goes down to the Old World. The May 2024 update added a new map, so there are several layouts to learn (the Factory among them).
- Film. Explore, find monsters and artifacts, and record. Cameras have limited recording per battery charge.
- Return. Get back to the bell before oxygen runs out, with at least one camera.
- Upload and watch. Extract the video at the house, then put it on SpöökTube. Views roll in and you earn money.
- Sleep. Going to bed ends the day. After day three, you either hit the quota and continue or the run ends.
The quota rises each cycle, so you'll need better footage and better gear as your career goes on.
Making Viral Footage
What reliably boosts views:
Content | Why it works
Monsters attacking, chasing or grabbing someone | Action is scored far higher than idle monsters
Multiple different monsters in one video | More "content" per clip
Close-up shots | Distant, dark blobs don't count for much
Cursed artifacts and odd objects | Rare finds give extra interest
Teammates reacting, emoting, dying on camera | The horror-comedy angle is the point of the game
Camera tips:
- Light your subject. Footage in the dark is barely visible. The cameraman should have a flashlight or a teammate should light the scene.
- Keep the monster in frame. Recording a wall while you run away is wasted battery.
- Record in bursts. Stop recording while walking empty corridors, and start again when something happens.
- Plan roles. One camera operator, one bait, one lookout watching the path back to the bell.
Items and the Shop
You buy items from the computer in the house; a drone drops them at the drop-site on the island. (Since November 2025, items that fall off the map respawn at the drop-site.)
Items to know:
Item | Use
Camera | The whole game. Extra cameras let you split up or keep a backup.
Flashlights | Several tiers. Brighter lights help you film and see threats.
Defibrillator | Revive a downed teammate
Rescue Hook | Pulls a teammate to you; great for grabbing someone caught by a monster
Reporter Mic | Prop for "news report" style content
Sounds Player | Plays sounds for comedy bits
Party Popper | Prop for celebrations on camera
Sketch Pad | Draw and show things on camera
Emotes | Bought from the shop and used for funny footage
Prices and exact item stats can change with patches. Check the in-game shop when you start a new save.
What to Buy First
- A better flashlight for each player.
- A second camera.
- A Defibrillator or Rescue Hook once the quota gets harder.
- Props and emotes when the basics are covered; they make monster clips far funnier.
Monsters
The May 2024 update added 13 new monsters, and there are many more from launch. Each has its own behavior. A few examples:
- Jello — engulfs players it catches (since Patch 1.21.0, it covers the screen of the caught player).
- EyeGuy — reacts when you shine a light on it and will attack you. Think before you light it up.
- Snatcho — was fixed to no longer be invincible in the 1.20.2 hotfix.
General survival rules that apply to almost every monster:
- Never split up in the dark. Monsters pick off loners.
- Listen. Most monsters have a distinct sound before they appear.
- Retreat toward the bell, not deeper into the map.
- Don't fight — film. You can't kill most monsters. Your job is to record them and survive.
- Use teammates as bait (with their consent). A teammate getting chased on camera is some of the best footage you'll get.
Sponsorships, MetaCoins and Island Upgrades
Added in the May 2024 update:
- Sponsored video deals can be picked after your first week. Complete their request (for example, filming a particular kind of scene) for extra rewards. Since November 2025 you can do more than one sponsorship per save.
- MetaCoins (MC) carry across saves and buy island upgrades and hats in the hat shop.
- The house has a mirror for checking your look, and a projector in the garden.
Multiplayer and Crossplay
- 2-4 players, voice chat included. Online co-op is the intended experience.
- Lobby codes arrived in November 2025, and crossplay with PS5, Xbox and Switch arrived in April 2026. Toggle crossplay in the settings; join via friend or room codes.
- You can mute players and kick people when hosting.
- A solo/offline mode exists, but some elements (like the Catchya Machine) don't spawn there.
- Patch 1.24.0 fixed lobbies getting stuck in offline mode after rehosting.
Mods
Steam Workshop mod support arrived in December 2024. If an update breaks your mods, Landfall added a Legacy version in the Steam betas (Properties, then Betas) to keep older mods working. It's also the version to use if your CPU lacks AVX support.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Diving without a plan for the camera. Decide who carries it and who picks it up.
- Running out of oxygen. Head back early; losing a full camera to suffocation hurts.
- Filming in the dark. Bad lighting means few views.
- Spending all money on props early. Survival and light first.
- Splitting the team. One missing player can mean one missing camera.
- Skipping the watch party. You'll miss what actually earned views, which is how you learn what to film.
Advanced Tips
- Two cameras, two teams works once you know the map layouts; each pair films a different area.
- Stage scenes — lead a monster to a lit area where your camera operator is waiting.
- Use props and emotes around monsters, not just on the surface.
- Keep the camera operator at the back, where they're least likely to get caught.
- Know the controller options. Patch 1.23.0 added inverted camera options, and full controller support arrived in late 2025.
FAQ
Is Content Warning free? It was free for the first 24 hours after launch on April 1, 2024. It's a paid game on Steam now.
Does Content Warning have crossplay? Yes, since April 1, 2026, with PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Switch 1 and 2. Switch crossplay was temporarily disabled around Patch 1.23.0 while its fix went through certification.
Can I play solo? Yes, but it's designed for 2-4 players, and some features don't appear in solo/offline mode.
How many days do you have to reach the quota? Three days, with one dive per day.
What happens when you die? You're out for the rest of that dive. Teammates can revive you with a Defibrillator; otherwise you're back the next day.
Why won't my video extract? Extraction bugs have been a known issue. Patches 1.23.0 and 1.24.0 made extraction faster and let players who successfully extracted watch even if others fail. If it keeps failing, send logs to Landfall support.
