A practical guide to retail World of Warcraft during Midnight Season 2: leveling to 90, the Midnight zones and systems, the patch 12.1 Curse of Ula'tek content, the gear and endgame loop (Delves, Mythic+, raiding, PvP), and what is coming next.
Researched September 2026 — current as of Midnight patch 12.1 "Curse of Ula'tek" / Season 2 (patch live August 6, Season 2 started August 18, 2026; hotfixes through September 24). Live games change; check the linked sources if something differs.
Quick Start
- Level cap is 90 in Midnight (launched March 2, 2026). Start in Eversong Woods, then do Zul'Aman, Harandar and the Voidstorm in the order you like.
- Pick a class/spec you enjoy, then check its role. Tanks and healers get faster group queues. Demon Hunters now have a third spec, Devourer, a ranged Void caster.
- Silvermoon is the Midnight hub. Portals, vendors, the Great Vault and profession trainers are there.
- At 90, do the weekly loop: Great Vault, Delves, Mythic+ dungeons, raid, world content on the Coiled Isle.
- Delves are the solo/small-group path to good gear. Season 2 adds three new Delves and Bountiful Delves above Tier 7.
- Crests upgrade gear. Earn them from Delves, dungeons, raids and world activities and spend them to upgrade item levels up to the cap for each track.
- Unlock the Coiled Isle (12.1 zone off Zul'Aman's east coast) for Season 2 world content, its own talent tree, and the Vaults of Atal'Utek.
- Claim your house. Player housing is free (no lottery, cost or upkeep) and shared across your Warband.
- The Great Vault is your best weekly gear source. Fill as many slots as you can every week.

Zone | Notes
Eversong Woods | Starting zone; Quel'Thalas, the blood elf homeland
Zul'Aman | Amani trolls; gateway to the Coiled Isle in 12.1
Harandar | Home of the Haranir
Voidstorm | The Void-ravaged zone
Silvermoon | Main city hub
The Coiled Isle (12.1) | Season 2 zone
After Eversong, you choose your zone order.
New race and spec
- Haranir — a new playable allied race, an ancient people with subterranean origins who pre-date many of Azeroth's oldest races.
- Devourer Demon Hunter — a ranged, Void-focused spec built around harvesting souls. The first time Demon Hunters can play at range.
Player housing
- Free: no lotteries, gold cost or upkeep. Shared across your Warband.
- Public or private neighborhoods with community Endeavors (12.1 added Amani, Kobolds, Ohn'ahran Centaurs and Tortollans).
- Decor comes from gameplay, professions and achievements.
- 12.1 added blueprints (export and share layouts) and pet beds (companion pets roam your home).
Prey
An open-world hunting system: track dangerous targets across the world, who can hunt you back. Season 2 brought back Nightmare Mode (now a permanent toggle) with serpent-themed hunts. Collect Ossified Relics to activate Haunted Braziers and summon Ral'kala.
Leveling (80 to 90)
- Follow the Midnight campaign — it is the fastest route and unlocks world content, Delves and dungeons.
- Queue dungeons while questing; the random dungeon finder gives good XP.
- Delves also give XP and let you learn your class in a low-pressure setting.
- Warband features share reputation and some progress across characters, so your second character levels faster.
- Use the Cooldown Manager (12.1 now tracks trinkets, potions and racials) to learn your rotation without addons.
The Endgame Loop
Gear progression
Gear in Midnight comes in upgrade tracks. Each piece shows its track and how many upgrade steps remain. You spend Crests (earned from Delves, dungeons, raids and world quests — the lowest tier is Adventurer, with higher tiers from harder content) (plus the seasonal upgrade currency) to raise item level up to that track's cap.
General order for a fresh 90:
- World quests and Coiled Isle events for starter gear and Adventurer Crests.
- Heroic dungeons and Tier 1-5 Delves.
- Mythic 0 dungeons (Altar of Fangs is available at Mythic 0) and higher Delves.
- Mythic+ keys and the Venomous Abyss raid (Raid Finder, Normal, Heroic, Mythic).
- Upgrade your best pieces with Crests and use the Catalyst to convert seasonal gear into tier set pieces.
The Great Vault
Each week the Vault offers choices based on what you completed in three rows: raid bosses, Mythic+/dungeons (and Delves), and World/PvP activities. Fill as many slots as possible: more slots means more choices. Claim it after the weekly reset (Tuesday in NA, Wednesday in EU).
Delves
Point | Notes
Group size | Solo to 5 players, with an NPC companion
Tiers | Scale difficulty; Season 2 Bountiful Delves unlock progression beyond Tier 7
Rewards | Gear, Crests, Vault progress
New in 12.1 | The Ring of Glory, Gnarldor Isle, Venomfall Deeps (Nemesis Delve)
Delves are the best choice for players who do not want to group with strangers.
Mythic+ (Season 2)
Dungeon | Origin
Altar of Fangs | New in 12.1 (three bosses)
Murder Row | Midnight
Den of Nalorakk | Midnight
The Blinding Vale | Midnight
Voidscar Arena | Midnight
Kings' Rest | Battle for Azeroth (updated)
Ruby Life Pools | Dragonflight (updated)
Temple of Sethraliss | Battle for Azeroth (updated)
Tips: learn one route per dungeon, carry interrupts and prioritize them (12.1 shows a "missed" visual when you interrupt a non-casting target), and time cooldowns with the tank's pulls. Crowd-control diminishing returns now reset after 20 seconds instead of 16.
Raiding: The Venomous Abyss
- Eight bosses ending with Ula'tek. Other encounters include The Coiled Altar (Zul'jan), The Twin Fangs and Sszorak.
- Difficulties: Raid Finder, Normal, Heroic, Mythic. Blizzard tuned bosses via hotfixes as recently as September 24, so encounters may be easier than early-season guides suggest.
- Start with Raid Finder for set pieces, then find a Normal/Heroic group via the Group Finder or a guild.
Lairs
New in 12.1: world bosses became instanced Lairs for 15-25 players at flexible Mythic difficulty — a middle ground between world bosses and raids.
PvP
- Rated 3v3 Arena, Rated Battlegrounds, Solo Shuffle and Battleground Blitz.
- Recent hotfixes raised rating inflation in Blitz, Rated Battlegrounds and 3v3, and nerfed healer trinkets.
- Honor and Conquest buy PvP gear; Conquest also feeds the Vault's PvP track.
Class and Role Tips
- Pick for fun, then check the current tier lists — balance hotfixes land often (e.g. the September 24 hotfix buffed Unholy Death Knight in raid).
- Tanks: learn the dungeon routes and which casts to interrupt; you set the pace.
- Healers: position so you can see the whole group, and use cooldowns early rather than late.
- DPS: steady damage matters more after 12.1's cooldown rework; spend more time on uptime and interrupts than on burst windows.
Gold and Professions
- Pick two gathering professions on a leveling alt for easy gold, or a crafting profession to make gear orders.
- Crafting Orders let crafters make gear with your materials — useful for embellished items.
- Weekly profession knowledge (treatises, weekly quests, treasures) permanently improves your crafting.
- The WoW Token can be bought with gold to pay for game time.

Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Skipping the Great Vault. It is the best weekly gear source.
- Upgrading every piece with Crests. Spend Crests on items you will keep; replace low-track items first.
- Ignoring interrupts. In Mythic+ they matter more than damage.
- Joining high keys too early. Build up through Mythic 0 and low keys; learn the routes.
- Neglecting Delves as a solo player. They are designed to gear you without a group.
- Following outdated guides. Season 2 changed player health, damage and cooldowns; many early-season numbers no longer apply.
Advanced Tips
- Weekly checklist: Vault slots, a raid lockout, Mythic+ keys, Bountiful Delves, Coiled Isle events, Prey hunts, profession weeklies.
- Crest efficiency: use higher-tier content to earn higher-tier Crests — they upgrade gear further.
- Catalyst charges: save them for slots where tier set bonuses matter most.
- Warband banking: move materials and gold between characters to gear alts quickly.
- Addon changes: Midnight limited some combat addon functions, so learn the built-in tools (Cooldown Manager, boss warnings) before relying on addons.
- Lairs are a fast weekly source of rewards and good practice for raid mechanics.
