VEGA Conflict has been shut down. This page explains what happened and when, what (if anything) you can still do, and preserves a player-level reference to how the game worked for veterans, researchers, and anyone looking for something similar.

Researched September 2026 — current as of the official shutdown on May 15, 2026 (last Steam update posted June 2022). Live games change; check the linked sources if something differs.

Status: shut down. KIXEYE's space MMO-RTS VEGA Conflict officially closed on May 15, 2026 and is no longer playable on any platform. It has also been removed from the Steam store ("VEGA Conflict is no longer available on the Steam store"). There is no official offline mode, and no official private-server release.

Quick Start (What You Need to Know Now)

  • The game cannot be played. Servers closed on May 15, 2026. Launching an old client on PC, iOS, or Android will not connect.
  • Steam listing is gone. The store page shows the delisting notice. If the game still appears in your library, it is only a leftover entry.
  • Accounts and progress are not transferable. Fleets, hulls, Blood Amber, and event rewards existed only on KIXEYE's servers.
  • Purchases: in-game currency could not be used after closure. For billing questions, contact KIXEYE support or your platform (Steam, Apple, Google) directly; platform refund policies apply, not this guide.
  • Beware "private server" downloads. No official server software was released. Unofficial files claiming to "revive" VEGA Conflict are unverified and can carry malware or request your old login details. Do not enter old account credentials anywhere except official KIXEYE pages.
  • Want something similar? Look for other real-time fleet-combat strategy games with base building and alliance play. See the alternatives section below.
  • Preserve memories: if you have screenshots, fleet designs, or alliance history, community Discords and subreddits are where veterans have been archiving them.

How VEGA Conflict Worked (Reference)

VEGA Conflict was a real-time space strategy MMO. You ran a planetary outpost, built and refit fleets of ships, and sent them across sectors to fight NPC targets and other players for resources and blueprints. Progress was cross-platform across PC, browser, and mobile.

The core loop

  • Collect resources from your outpost and from destroying targets.
  • Research and build hulls (ship frames) and fit them with weapons, armour, shields, and specials.
  • Fight VEGA Federation and other NPC factions, or attack players, in real-time battles.
  • Earn blueprints from monthly events to unlock new hulls and tech.
  • Upgrade your base defences so other players cannot easily raid you.

Ship classes

According to the Wikipedia summary and the game's patch notes, hull roles included:

Class | Role

Frigates, corvettes, cruisers, destroyers | Core early-to-mid game hulls

Battleships | Gunships of a fleet; heavy firepower

Cutters | Fast strike hulls

Specialists | Hulls with shift abilities (for example, the Tier 10 Spectre Modulator switched between tank and fighter behaviour)

Carriers | Launch spawned ships or fighters (for example, the Retrocitor Anvil)

Rangers | Mobile hulls built to outmanoeuvre enemies (for example, the Retrocitor Stalker)

Titans, fighters, rangers, debuffers | Higher-tier specialised roles; per Wikipedia, fighters, titans, and rangers required Tier 8 or above

Warships | The Retrocitor equivalent of a battleship (the Hammer); could not target multiple ships on their own

Dreadnoughts and flagships | Needed to move fleets between sectors

Hulls were organised into tiers, with the late game reaching Tier 10 (Spectre) and Tier 11 (Retrocitor) by 2022. Wikipedia describes fifteen tiers of factions overall, each with its own ship classes. Progress was measured in XP and medals, which drove the leaderboards. Each hull could be upgraded from MK I through higher MK levels and finally to an Elite version, usually by collecting parts across a month's events.

The final hulls (2021-2022 release notes)

The last year of Steam-posted release notes is the best surviving record of the endgame. Each month followed the same pattern: a feature event for the hull, Mobilization for MK upgrades, then Decimation or Elite targets.

Month | Hull | Tier and role | Notable tech in the same release

Sept 2021 | Spectre Architect | Tier 10 spawner specialist; Prime Shift boosts for spawned ships | Coadjutant spawned ships, Fulgor Beam, Ternary Shields (Solar Burst event)

Oct 2021 | Spectre Warbird | Tier 10 battleship with dual firing arcs | Tracker Torpedo, Carbyne Armor, Electron Wings, Pyro Sentry, spawner-module sentries (Flame Strike event)

Nov 2021 | Spectre Modulator | Tier 10 specialist that shifts between tank and fighter behaviour | Hacksaw Vulcan, Dart Wing, Electron Sentry, Fleet Commander Annie (Energy Surge event)

Dec 2021 | Spectre Optio | Tier 10 hull using Liberatus tech to disrupt enemy systems | Lustre Cannon, Ilos Missile; earned during a "magnetic storm" event

Feb 2022 | Retrocitor Scrapper | First Tier 11 hull | Experimental Salvage, Reclaimed Armor/Shields, Diversiform Missiles

Apr 2022 | Retrocitor Stalker and Inheritor Dreadnought | Tier 11 ranger; new dreadnought | "The Enemy of My Enemy" campaign with 5 new targets against the Astral Barony

May 2022 | Retrocitor Anvil | Tier 11 carrier | Breach Squadron, Fleet Commander Khalin Hullwirght

June 2022 | Retrocitor Hammer | Tier 11 warship (the Retrocitor battleship) | 9th anniversary login gift

Factions you fought

Patch notes from the final years mention the VEGA Federation (the main antagonist), the Liberatus, Keres (a major villain whose defeat set up the 2022 story), the Astral Barony, and the Retrocitors (a new ally faction in 2022 that supplied Tier 11 tech).

Sectors and movement

  • The galaxy was split into sectors. Moving fleets between sectors required a flagship or dreadnought.
  • You could relocate your outpost to another sector once every 24 hours, useful for following events or escaping hostile players.

Monthly event structure (2021-2022 era)

A typical month had a predictable rhythm, as described in KIXEYE's release notes:

Event | Purpose

Feature event (for example Solar Burst, Energy Surge, Flame Strike) | Earn the month's new hull plus weapons and armour at MK levels I-III; top players won skins and Blood Amber

Mobilization | Collect materials to upgrade the new hull to MK IV and pick up extra tech

Decimation or Elite targets | Finish the Elite version of the hull

Crusade | Event where Experimental Salvage components (2022) were earned

Alliance War | Hybrid PvP/PvE; alliances fought for Mining Outposts in an unstable sector to earn Intel and Solar Shards, spent in an event store; also dropped Marauder Tech

Recurring details:

  • Build and refit discounts (often 20%) were active for the first 24 hours of an event, but only for builds started after the discount began.
  • RAGE bar: in some events, filling it triggered a siege fleet on your base for extra points.
  • Tiered loot tables: earning tech in one tier unlocked the next.

Currencies and items

Currency or item | What it was for

Base resources | Building, research, repairs

Blood Amber | Premium currency; also a leaderboard prize

Intel | Alliance War currency for event store prizes

Solar Shards | Alliance War currency to unlock additional store tiers

Marauder Tech | Alliance War reward

Blueprints and parts | Unlocked and upgraded hulls and modules

Fleet Commanders

Fleet Commanders were characters you attached to a fleet for bonuses. Named examples from the last years include Annie (a Spectre Fleet Commander, November 2021, built to boost Spectre fleets) and Khalin Hullwirght (spelled that way in the May 2022 notes), earned alongside the Retrocitor Anvil Elite.

Base defence

Your outpost could be raided, so defensive investment mattered: turrets, sentries (including spawner-module sentries added in 2021), dissipators, and base specials. Veterans treated base defence as insurance for the resources you were saving for the next event.

Veteran Lessons (Useful in Similar Games)

These are the habits that made players successful in VEGA Conflict and that carry over to most fleet-combat MMO strategy games:

  • Plan around the monthly calendar. Start builds right after discounts begin, and keep resources banked for the feature event.
  • Match damage and resistance. Fitting fleets to counter a target's damage type beat raw stats.
  • Specialise fleets. A fleet designed for one target type (NPC bases, event targets, PvP) outperformed a generalist.
  • Join an active alliance early. Alliance War and shared intel were the fastest ways to get top-tier rewards.
  • Protect your base before you go idle. Resources left in an undefended outpost were the easiest target in the sector.
  • Relocate strategically. Moving your outpost to quieter or event-relevant sectors saved travel time and trouble.
  • Do not chase every hull. Focus on hulls that fit your roster; Elite upgrades take a full month of events.

What You Can Still Do

Option | Status

Play the official game | Not possible since May 15, 2026

Offline or single-player mode | Never existed; the game was server-based

Official private servers | None released

Unofficial "revivals" | Unverified; treat as risky

Buy on Steam | Delisted

Community | Veteran Discords and subreddits remain for discussion and archives

Alternatives

If you want the same feel (real-time fleet combat, base building, alliance events), look for currently supported games in these genres:

  • Space 4X and grand strategy for fleet building and territory control without the free-to-play event grind.
  • Mobile and browser space MMO-strategy games for the same alliance and event structure. Check that a game has recent patch notes before investing time or money; the free-to-play MMO-RTS genre has seen several shutdowns.
  • Real-time tactics games for the moment-to-moment fleet micro.

Always check a game's recent update history and official news before spending money, given how VEGA Conflict ended.

Common Mistakes to Avoid (Post-Shutdown)

  • Downloading unofficial clients or "server emulators" from unknown sites.
  • Reusing your old VEGA/KIXEYE password on any site claiming to restore accounts.
  • Buying old gift cards or currency from third-party sellers. Nothing can be redeemed.
  • Assuming a Steam library entry means it works. It does not connect.

Advanced Tips (for Archivists and Veterans)

  • Save the patch notes. The Steam news feed for app 339600 still hosts the monthly release notes, which are the best surviving record of hull names, event names, and tier progression.
  • Screenshot your old in-game data if you still have a cached client, but do not expect it to load anything beyond login screens.
  • Record community knowledge (fleet fits, event strategies) in a public wiki or archive so it is not lost.
