A practical guide to Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts 2: long-range ballistics, how contracts and regions are structured, gear and skill priorities, stealth tactics, and a region-by-region overview including the free Butcher's Banquet expansion.
Researched September 2026 — current as of the final PC version including the free Butcher's Banquet expansion and the Complete Edition (April 2022). No new content patches since. Live games change; check the linked sources if something differs.
Quick Start
- You play Raven, a contract sniper-assassin sent into Kuamar, a fictional Middle Eastern country near the Lebanese and Syrian borders, to topple Bibi Rashida's regime.
- Each region is a sandbox with a main contract, extra objectives and optional challenges. Finish the main target and extract, or stay and clean up more objectives.
- Two mission styles. Classic regions mix infiltration, close-quarters work and shots under roughly 400m. Long-range contracts ask you to hit targets over 1,000m away.
- Mark before you shoot. Use your binoculars/scope and drone to tag enemies. Knowing where everyone is prevents alarms.
- Account for bullet drop and wind at long range. Your scope's range markings, rangefinding and the wind indicator are the tools.
- Replaying regions is expected. Contracts are designed for multiple approaches, and earnings from replays buy better gear.
- Buy skills with care. There are dozens (an achievement asks you to buy 54), so spend on things that suit your approach first.
- Suppressors keep you hidden but reduce performance on some rifles; decide per mission.
Regions and Contracts
Contracts 2 is split into large regions, each a self-contained map:
Region | Completion achievement | Highest-difficulty achievement | Notes
Zindah Province | Mirage | Desert Storm | The opening region; learning ground for long shots and infiltration
Mount Kuamar | Take the Nerd Down | The Gun is the Best Hacking Tool | Mountain region; elevation makes ranging essential
The Tajmid Heights | Convict freed | Genuine Professional | Mid-campaign region
Maladh Wadi | Meeting Cancelled | Deadly Efficient | Mid-to-late campaign region
Rashida Qalat | Castling | King of The Castle | The dictator's fortress; a huge castle with inner and outer forts
The Temple (Butcher's Banquet) | - | - | Free expansion region of oases, waterfalls and temples
The highest-difficulty achievements require finishing the region at the highest difficulty in a single playthrough, so you cannot piece them together across sessions of mixed difficulty.
The campaign in brief (light spoilers)
Raven works for an anonymous handler called Control, who hires him to destabilise Bibi Rashida's regime in Kuamar by removing the people who keep it running: arms dealers, military trainers, cybersecurity experts and the like. Opposition journalist Taj Taheer is part of the story's endgame, and the final contracts twist Control's motives. Missions are split between "classic" contracts (infiltration, close-quarters work, targets under about 400m) and "long-range" contracts (targets over 1,000m).
Butcher's Banquet (free expansion)
Butcher's Banquet adds The Temple region and new contracts. Your targets are Mahmoud Zarza, "The Butcher", and his associates, including nerve-agent researcher Irina Volkova. It is included free for owners and bundled in the Complete Edition.
Sniping Fundamentals
Long-range ballistics
- Range first. Read the distance to your target before adjusting.
- Compensate for drop. Use the scope's reticle marks or zero adjustments for the measured range. At 1,000m+, drop is large.
- Read the wind. Crosswind pushes the bullet sideways; hold into the wind accordingly.
- Hold your breath. Steadying reduces sway; the Stamina Booster gadget extends it ("Lungs of Steel" asks for 5 kills while holding breath with it active).
- Take the shot between patrol glances. Watch patterns before firing.
- Lower difficulties give more aim help (such as impact indicators). Higher difficulties remove that assistance and make enemies sharper.
Stealth rules
- Use sound masking. Loud environmental noises can hide unsuppressed shots.
- Kill spotters and snipers first. Enemy snipers and observers are the most likely to raise alarms.
- Hide bodies or make sure no one will walk past them.
- Disable alarms and cameras before engaging when the objective allows.
- Watch detection meters. Break line of sight as soon as someone starts to notice you.
- Get close quietly. Being within 2m of an enemy for 10 seconds without detection is an achievement ("Spectre"), and close-range takedowns avoid gunshots entirely.
Weapons and Gadgets
You carry a sniper rifle, a secondary (assault rifle, SMG, shotgun and similar), and a sidearm. Unlocking all sniper rifles ("Full Arsenal"), sidearms ("Small and Lethal") and secondaries ("Better Safe Than Sorry") are achievements.
Weapons DLC included in the Complete Edition:
Pack | Weapons named in the announcement
Crossbow Carnage Weapons Pack | Crossbow (three arrow types including explosive bolts), Model 550 TRV, Mad Sheriff 9 (revolver that fires bullets and buckshot), Car K8
Lock n' Load Weapons Pack | ZXR .45 ACP (the only silenced SMG), Kings Arms Sawn Off Shotgun (the only shotgun that fits the sidearm slot), and more
Gadgets you will lean on:
- Drone: scouting, tagging and, with upgrades, a poison rifle that can kill contract targets ("Venom").
- Sentry Turret: an automated gun for defending a position ("Turret Operator" wants 5 kills in one mission).
- Stamina Booster: longer breath-holding for tough shots.
- Grenades and explosives: for when stealth has already failed ("Kill 2 enemies with a grenade").
Loadout tips
- Take a suppressed secondary for close-range surprises.
- Match the rifle to the region. Long-range contracts need a high-velocity, flat-shooting rifle; infiltration-heavy regions reward lighter, faster rifles and suppressors.
- Use special ammo where available (armour-piercing, for example) for armoured targets.
Skills and Progression
Money from contracts buys weapons and gear. Completing challenges earns the currency for skills. Skills cover your suit, gadgets and weapons; the first one you buy is the "First Payday" achievement.
Early priorities:
- Drone improvements so you can tag and scout better.
- Survivability (armour and health) for when plans go wrong.
- Stealth and movement improvements.
- Breathing/stability for long shots.
- Weapon unlocks that fit your preferred style.
How to Approach a New Region
- Read the contract list before deploying so you know the main target, secondary objectives and any "don't kill" conditions.
- Pick a loadout for the region's range profile: a long-range contract region needs your flattest-shooting rifle; an infiltration region needs suppression and a good secondary.
- Find a vantage point first. Scan with binoculars and drone, and mark everyone you can see.
- Plan an entry and an exit. Know where you will extract before you fire the first shot.
- Clear threats in order: snipers and observers, then patrols near alarms, then everyone else.
- Complete the main contract, then decide whether to continue with secondary objectives or extract to bank progress.
- Replay later for challenges, collectibles and a different approach.
Region tips
- Zindah Province: use it to learn long-range shots; there is no rush.
- Mount Kuamar: elevation changes make ranging essential; check distances every shot.
- The Tajmid Heights: a mid-campaign region; as always, read every contract before engaging so you do not break a secondary condition.
- Rashida Qalat: a huge castle with inner and outer forts. Clear the outer fort quietly before committing inside, and note the chips objective that rewards sparing Bibi.
- The Temple: the expansion region is among the toughest; bring your best upgraded gear.
Achievements Worth Planning For
Achievement | Requirement | Tip
Distance Doesn't Matter | Land a shot from over 1,300m | Use the long-range contracts with a high-velocity rifle
One Shot One Kill | Every hit in a contract is a kill | Aim for heads; do not fire risky shots
Look, but Don't Touch | Finish all contracts in a region without taking enemy damage | Pick an early region and play very slowly
Long Live the Queen | Retrieve the security chips without killing Bibi | Read that objective before engaging
Check | Escape the Server Room ambush undetected | Plan your exit before triggering the ambush
Hoarder | Find all collectibles | Use the drone and binoculars to scan
Employee of the Year | Complete all Mission Contracts | Replays are expected
Full Potential | Buy 54 skills | Complete challenges on replays to fund skills
One Trick Pony | Finish a contract using only sniper rifles | Pick a long-range contract and stay at distance
Full House | Kill at least one of each enemy type in the same mission | Scan the map with the drone to find every type first
Quick and Discreet | Kill 5 enemies in 1 minute without raising the alarm | Pre-mark a group, then chain suppressed shots
Venom | Kill a contract target with the drone's poison rifle | Unlock the drone upgrade first
Lungs of Steel | 5 kills while holding breath with Stamina Booster active | Equip the booster on a long-range contract
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Shooting before marking. Unmarked enemies spot you.
- Ignoring wind at long range. A perfect elevation hold still misses in a crosswind.
- Firing unsuppressed near patrols. Use sound masking or a suppressor.
- Grinding one region too long. Rotate regions; the variety teaches different skills.
- Picking highest difficulty on your first run. Learn maps first; difficulty achievements are single-playthrough anyway.
- Forgetting to extract. The contract is not banked until you leave the region.
Advanced Tips
- Two birds, one bullet. Lining up two enemies for one shot is possible ("Thrifty Shooter").
- Use explosions. Detonating objects near groups can take out multiple enemies ("Lock, Stock, and Barrel").
- Quick and quiet chains. Clearing five enemies in a minute without an alarm is achievable with pre-marked targets and a suppressed rifle.
- Scout from high ground before committing; most regions have perches that overlook the main compounds.
- Replay for money, then return to difficult contracts with better gear.
FAQ
Is Butcher's Banquet free? Yes. It is a free major expansion that adds The Temple region; it is also included in the Complete Edition with all weapon and skin DLC.
How far are the longest shots? Many targets are over 1,000m away, and there is an achievement for landing a shot beyond 1,300m.
Do I need to play the first Contracts game? No. The story stands alone. A Contracts 1 and 2 Double Pack exists if you want both.
Is there multiplayer? No. It is a single-player campaign.
Where is Kuamar? It is fictional. The store describes a lawless region along the Lebanese and Syrian borders; Wikipedia places the setting in southern Iran. Either way it is a made-up country, so do not expect real-world maps to help.
Can I replay a region after finishing it? Yes, and you are meant to. Replays let you finish contracts and challenges you skipped, find collectibles for Finders Keepers and Hoarder, and earn money for gear.
Is it on sale often? CI Games runs frequent franchise sales; check the store for current pricing.
Should I play on the highest difficulty for achievements? Only once you know a region. The highest-difficulty region achievements require a single playthrough of that region, so learn the map on a lower setting first.
