This guide covers creating and building a Time Patroller, the combat system, how to progress through Conton City's content efficiently, the DLC situation after Future Saga, and what to do now that Xenoverse 3 is on the way.

Researched September 2026 — current as of the Future Saga Chapter 4 DLC (announced as the final DLC, launch trailer July 2026). Live games change; check the linked sources if something differs.

Quick Start

  • Race matters more than looks. Each of the five races (Earthling, Saiyan, Namekian, Frieza Race, Majin) has different base stats and passive traits. Pick the one whose playstyle you like; every race can be competitive.
  • Finish the story first. The main story unlocks mentors, Parallel Quests, Expert Missions and most of Conton City. Side content is much easier once you have more skills and levels.
  • Mentors teach your skills. Talk to masters around Conton City (Goku, Vegeta, Piccolo, Frieza and many more), do their lessons, and learn their signature moves. Mentor training is the main source of good early skills.
  • Parallel Quests (PQs) are the grind engine. They drop clothes, skills, Super Souls, QQ Bangs and Dragon Balls. Hitting ultimate finish conditions unlocks rare drops.
  • Stats come from attribute points. Every level grants points you spread across Max Health, Max Ki, Max Stamina, Basic Attacks, Strike Supers and Ki Blast Supers. Clothing and QQ Bangs modify them further.
  • Stamina is your defense. Vanishing and breaking out of combos cost stamina. At zero stamina you are "stamina broken" and fully exposed.
  • Build around one damage type. Strike (melee) and Ki Blast (energy) builds need different stats and different supers. Mixing both halfway is the most common weak build.
  • Collect Dragon Balls. They drop from PQs and other content. Wishes include new skills, extra outfits and other rewards.
  • Play online for Raids and Expert Missions once you are comfortable; some rewards are only there.
  • Future Saga is the final DLC arc. If you are buying DLC now, the Future Saga Set Pack (Chapters 1 to 4) is the simplest way to own that storyline.

Controls (Controller Layout)

The game is built around a controller. Buttons below use Xbox naming; PlayStation equivalents are in brackets.

Action | Input

Light / rush attack | X [Square]

Heavy / smash attack | Y [Triangle]

Ki blast | B [Circle]

Jump / ascend | A [Cross]

Guard | RB [R1]

Super Skills 1 to 4 | Hold the skill-palette button, then press a face button

Ultimate Skills, Evasive Skill, Awoken Skill | Hold the second skill-palette combination, then press a face button

All four Super Skills share one palette and the Ultimate/Evasive/Awoken slots share another; holding the palette input shows an on-screen overlay telling you which face button fires which skill. We could not confirm the exact default palette, Ki-charge and lock-on bindings from an official source, so check Options > Controls (or the in-game tutorial) rather than trusting a third-party chart.

Keyboard controls exist but are awkward; most PC players use a controller. Everything can be viewed and remapped under Options.

Races at a Glance

Race | General identity

Earthling | Ki-focused, fragile; comfortable Ki blast users

Saiyan | Gets a boost when revived or at low health; natural Strike race with the Super Saiyan line

Namekian | Durable, regenerates health; good support/tank

Frieza Race | Fast and aggressive, strong Ki blasts; access to a Golden form

Majin | Bulky and hard-hitting

Each race also has race-restricted Awoken Skills learned from mentors. Exact race multipliers have been rebalanced over the years, so treat the table as flavour, not numbers. Pick for playstyle.

Core Systems

Leveling and attributes

  • You gain XP from story battles, PQs, Expert Missions and training.
  • Each level gives attribute points. You can redistribute them later, so early mistakes are not permanent.
  • Free updates have raised the level cap several times over the game's life (for example from 140 to 160 in November 2024, per Wikipedia); check the in-game level display after updates in case it has moved again.

Rule of thumb for distribution

Build | Main stats | Secondary

Strike | Strike Supers, Basic Attacks | Stamina, Health

Ki Blast | Ki Blast Supers, Max Ki | Stamina, Health

Basic attack/brawler | Basic Attacks | Stamina, Health

Stamina is never a dump stat; running out gets you comboed to death, especially against multiple enemies in PQs.

Clothes and QQ Bangs

Every clothing piece shifts your stats. Early on, wear what you like; once you have QQ Bangs (made at the QQ Bang machine using clothing), you can set your stat profile largely independent of looks. Presets let you keep the outfit you want while your stat bonuses come from the QQ Bang.

Skills

  • Super Skills (4 slots) cost Ki.
  • Ultimate Skills (2 slots) cost a large amount of Ki; big damage finishers.
  • Evasive Skill (1 slot) gets you out of combos.
  • Awoken Skill (1 slot) is your transformation or power-up.
  • Super Soul (passive) changes your conditional bonuses, such as buffs at full Ki or after guarding.

Skills come from mentors, PQ drops, shops, the story, and DLC.

Combat fundamentals

  • Guard, then punish. Many heavy supers are unsafe when blocked.
  • Vanish at the right time to teleport behind an attacker (costs stamina).
  • Guard break with heavy attacks on blocking enemies.
  • Ki management: charge Ki when safe. A Ki-based fighter who runs dry is helpless.
  • Super Soul synergy: pick a Super Soul that matches your build rather than a generic one.

Content and Progression Order

  • Main story (Time Patrol missions that fix history). Complete it first.
  • Mentor training in Conton City: unlock mentors as you progress; finish their lessons for skills and costumes.
  • Parallel Quests: replay them for drops. Many PQs have ultimate finish conditions; meet them for the rare rewards.
  • Time Rift areas and city events: extra areas and encounters open up as the story progresses. Fly around Conton City and check new map icons.
  • Expert Missions: hard multi-player missions against big threats, playable with AI partners or online players.
  • Raid Battles: giant bosses fought with other players online.
  • Hero Colosseum: a separate figure-based strategy mode.
  • Online battles: ranked and unranked PvP.
  • DLC story packs including Future Saga Chapters 1 to 4.

Future Saga (final DLC arc)

  • Chapter 3 (late October 2025) followed Fu teaming up with Golden Frieza and added Friendship Mode, where you interact with Cheelai and Broly for exclusive rewards and cutscenes.
  • The Future Saga Set Pack bundles all Chapter 1 to 4 DLC.
  • Chapter 4 was announced as the final DLC for Xenoverse 2, with its launch trailer posted in early July 2026.

Building Your Time Patroller

Strike build

  • Stats into Strike Supers and Basic Attacks, then Stamina and Health.
  • Use mobile, combo-friendly supers from mentors like Goku, Vegeta and Gohan.
  • A Super Soul that rewards aggressive play or landing supers.
  • Good races: Saiyan, Majin.

Ki blast build

  • Stats into Ki Blast Supers and Max Ki.
  • Beam and multi-hit Ki supers; a Ki-restoring Super Soul.
  • Good races: Earthling, Frieza Race.

Support/hybrid

  • Health and Stamina heavy, with healing or buff skills. Useful in Raids and Expert Missions where team survival matters more than DPS.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Dumping points everywhere. Commit to Strike or Ki Blast.
  • Neglecting stamina. It is your escape button and your survival stat.
  • Wearing clothes purely for stats early. Buy or earn the QQ Bang system instead and wear what you like.
  • Grinding PQs before finishing the story. You will be underleveled and short on skills.
  • Ignoring ultimate finish conditions. Many rare drops need them.
  • Skipping mentors. Some of the best skills and Super Souls come from mentor training.
  • Buying random single DLC late. Check bundle and Set Pack options first.

Advanced Tips

  • Learn your super's recovery. Blocked supers leave you open; bait out enemy guard or dodge first.
  • Vanish timing beats spam. Vanishing on reaction saves stamina versus mashing.
  • Transform at the right moment. Awoken Skills are strongest when you have Ki to spend immediately.
  • Use PQ partners. AI partners can matter; bring a healer or tank for hard PQs.
  • Save presets. Keep separate loadouts for PvP, PQs and Raids.
  • Online rewards: events and Raid Battles rotate. Check in-game news when you log in.

Xenoverse 3 and What It Means for XV2

  • Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 is announced for 2027. It is set in West City in AGE 1000, adds an Android race (six avatar races in total), and introduces MistyPix and a Mentor Bond system with Skill Trees.
  • Xenoverse 2 is still playable and online as of September 2026, but with Future Saga Chapter 4 billed as the final DLC, do not expect new XV2 story packs.
  • Your XV2 progress does not carry to XV3 based on anything announced so far; treat XV2 as its own complete game.
