A guide to The Crew 2 in 2026: how Hybrid Mode (online vs. offline) works and what you lose offline, the four disciplines families, fame and progression, performance parts and loot, earning money efficiently, and tips for Summits and the Race Creator.
Researched September 2026 — current as of the April 2026 Hybrid Mode update. The Crew 2 no longer gets new seasons; Ubisoft's live racing content has moved to The Crew Motorfest. Check the linked sources if something differs.
Status note: The Crew 2 is still online, but it's in maintenance mode. The last season (Season 9) launched in 2023. In October 2025 Ubisoft added Hybrid Mode, which lets you play offline so the game stays playable if online services end. The April 2026 update added offline livery creation and statistics import. For context, the original The Crew was shut down in 2024, which is why Ubisoft built an offline mode for The Crew 2.
Quick Start
- Choose Online or Offline at launch. Online is the full game with multiplayer, Summits and Crew Credits shopping. Offline is a local copy of your progress without the multiplayer features.
- Claim purchases online first. Before exporting to offline, claim all bought vehicle packs and Season Pass rewards while online.
- Online and offline saves are separate. Anything you do offline stays offline. Progress never syncs back to your online save.
- Unlock all four families early. Street Racing, Offroad, Freestyle and Pro Racing each have their own vehicles and HQ, and their events drop parts and money.
- Fame is your level. Winning events and doing skills earns followers, which raise your fame and unlock more events.
- Parts matter more than the car's base stats. Every event drops performance parts; equip them to raise the vehicle's performance level.
- Use Fast Fav. Bind favourite vehicles to swap instantly between car, bike, boat and plane in the open world.
- Don't overbuy early. Pick one solid vehicle per discipline and upgrade it with parts before buying more.
Hybrid Mode Explained
Feature | Online | Offline
Campaign events and open world | Yes | Yes
Multiplayer crew, PvP | Yes | No
LIVE Summits and leaderboards | Yes | No
Crew Credits store and Far & Beyond shop purchases | Yes | No (existing Crew Credits can buy eligible offline catalogue vehicles)
Race Creator | Yes | No
Livery Editor | Yes | Yes, since the April 2026 update
Pilot and vehicle statistics | Yes | Import from online since April 2026
Leaderboards, ghosts, community news feed | Yes | No
Photo Mode | Yes | No (per the October 2025 launch notes)
How to export: play online, then choose Export to Offline Save. This copies your multiplayer progression to a local save. If no internet connection is detected at launch, the game starts in Offline Mode automatically.
Warning: exporting again later overwrites your previous offline save and erases any offline-only progress (Ubisoft's Hybrid Mode notes). If you've made progress offline you want to keep, don't re-export.
April 2026 additions:
- An offline My Livery menu for creating new liveries and seeing ones you saved from online.
- A Save offline button in online mode to copy favourite liveries and sticker groups (custom forms) to your offline save.
- Statistics import from online to offline, with pilot and vehicle stats now progressing offline.
- A Back to login button to switch between online and offline without restarting the game.
Disciplines and Families
Family | Disciplines
Street Racing | Street Race, Drift, Drag Race, Hypercar
Offroad | Rally Raid, Motocross, Rallycross
Freestyle | Monster Truck, Aerobatics, Jetsprint
Pro Racing | Touring Car, Alpha Grand Prix, Powerboat, Air Race
Post-launch updates added more disciplines, such as Hovercraft and Demolition Derby, plus extra event types through the seasons.
Tips per discipline:
- Street Race and Hypercar: clean racing lines matter more than top speed. Brake before corners and use nitro on straights.
- Drift: go for long, continuous drifts to build the combo multiplier; don't slam into walls. Drift-spec parts and cars behave very differently from grip builds.
- Drag Race: perfect launches and shifts in the green zone. It's all about timing.
- Rally Raid: watch for navigation arrows and don't cut too far off-route.
- Motocross and Rallycross: smooth throttle; landing jumps straight keeps speed.
- Aerobatics: events score specific maneuvers. Practice with the airplane before chasing gold.
- Jetsprint and Powerboat: waves and wakes launch boats; hit corners wide and early.
- Alpha Grand Prix: the most demanding discipline. Brake early, stay off kerbs, and upgrade parts before attempting harder events.
- Air Race: fly through gates cleanly; clipping a gate costs time.
Progression: Followers, Fame and Icon
- Followers come from events, skills and stylish driving in the open world.
- Fame levels run Rookie, Popular, Rising Star, Star and Icon. Each level unlocks more events and HQ content.
- After reaching Icon, you keep earning Icon Levels, which are the long-term progression that unlock extra rewards.
Performance Parts and Loot
Every event and many skills drop performance parts for the vehicle you used. Parts raise the vehicle's performance level, which is what determines whether you can compete in harder events.
- Rarity: higher-rarity parts give more performance and extra affixes (bonuses).
- Affixes include money, follower and nitro bonuses. Examples you'll see often are Fame Magnet (more followers) and Rich + Popular (more money and followers).
- Legendary parts (gold) come from high-level content and Summit rewards.
- Pro Settings let you fine-tune handling (gearing, suspension, brakes and so on) once parts are unlocked.
- Farm parts for the vehicle you actually use. Parts are vehicle-specific; grinding on one car doesn't help another.
Money: Bucks and Crew Credits
Currency | How you earn it | Spend it on
Bucks | Events, skills, part affixes | Vehicles, visual parts
Crew Credits | Premium currency; some rewards | Premium vehicles and cosmetics (online store)
Money tips:
- Stack money affixes on your farming vehicle.
- Repeat short, high-payout events you can win comfortably.
- Don't buy every discipline's premium car. Starter and cheaper cars with good parts are competitive for most PvE content.
Open-World Activities
- Skills: speed traps, slaloms, jump and escape challenges, plus air and water skills scattered across the USA. Great for quick followers and loot.
- Photo Ops: photo challenges that give rewards.
- Loot Boxes: hidden around the map; they drop parts and other items.
- Exploration: the map covers a scaled-down continental USA, from New York to Los Angeles, including cities, national parks and coastlines. Boats and planes open up routes that cars can't reach.
Summits and Seasonal Content (Online)
- LIVE Summits are rotating online events with tiered rewards (Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum) based on your placement against other players. Rewards include vehicles and legendary parts.
- Seasons added story-style content such as Motorflix and American Legends (Season 9, Episode 1).
- Race Creator (Season 9): place a start line, checkpoints and a finish in free roam, apply rules, and share races with the community. Online only.
Vehicle Recommendations
Rather than chase a meta that shifts with Summit rules, pick one reliable vehicle per discipline:
- Street Race: a well-balanced car you enjoy driving, fully upgraded.
- Hypercar: save for a high-end car; hypercar events reward top speed and stability.
- Drift: a lightweight rear-wheel-drive car.
- Alpha GP: use the starter Alpha GP car until your parts are strong, then upgrade.
- Planes and boats: the starter options are fine for most PvE; upgrade parts first.
Ubisoft's 2024 promotion offered four vehicles for 1 Crew Credit each (Mustang Shelby GT500 Road Force One, Frauscher 1414 Demon, Slick 360HP, Porsche 959 Raid). If you claimed them, they're good early picks for their disciplines.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Not claiming purchases before exporting offline.
- Expecting offline progress to sync back online. It won't.
- Spreading money across many cars. Upgrade a few vehicles properly.
- Ignoring affixes. A rarer part without useful affixes can be worse than a slightly lower part with great ones.
- Skipping Pro Settings on Alpha GP and Drift cars. Handling tweaks make a huge difference.
- Neglecting boats and planes. Their events are good money and parts too.
Advanced Tips
- Use online time for what's online-only: Summits, leaderboards, the Race Creator and store purchases. Then export and play the campaign offline if you prefer.
- Decide which save is your "main" one. The offline save is a snapshot of your online progress, and a new export overwrites it, wiping offline-only progress. Either keep playing online and re-export occasionally, or export once and commit to offline.
- Build a dedicated money car with money-boosting affixes for grinding.
- Save liveries to offline from the online community before services change.
- Watch the Performance Level requirement on events; bring a vehicle comfortably above it.
- Learn the map's shortcuts in Rally Raid and Motocross events; open-world familiarity helps.
FAQ
Is The Crew 2 still online? Yes, online mode still works as of September 2026. Hybrid Mode (October 2025) added a separate offline mode so the game stays playable without servers.
Can I play The Crew 2 completely offline? Yes. Launch in Offline Mode; if no connection is detected it starts offline automatically. Summits, multiplayer, leaderboards, Crew Credits store purchases, the Far & Beyond shop, the Race Creator and Photo Mode aren't available offline.
Does offline progress carry back to online? No. Online and offline saves are separate. Exporting only copies online to offline, and re-exporting overwrites the existing offline save.
