A practical companion for Persona 4 Golden on PC: how the calendar works, how to beat the TV World dungeons, how to plan Social Links, Personas and fusion, and how to reach the True and Golden endings without spoiling the mystery for you.

Researched September 2026 — current as of Steam version 1.05 (April 2023 patch, 64-bit build with Quick Save and Album). Live games change; check the linked sources if something differs.

Quick Start

  • The calendar is the real boss. Every day has a limited number of time slots (usually after school/daytime and evening). What you do with them decides your Social Links, stats, and endings. Plan instead of wandering.
  • Clear each rescue dungeon in as few trips as possible. When someone is kidnapped, you have until the fog arrives to save them. Finishing early frees the rest of the month for Social Links and stat-building.
  • Use Quick Save. The 2023 PC update added a suspend-anywhere Quick Save. Use it before bosses and before any conversation where you are unsure of the answer, but keep regular saves in multiple slots too.
  • Carry a Persona that matches the Arcana you are about to rank up. A matching Persona in your stock gives bonus closeness points in Social Link conversations.
  • Exploit weaknesses every turn. Hitting a weakness or landing a critical knocks an enemy down and gives a "One More" action; knock down every enemy and you can launch an All-Out Attack.
  • Build social stats early. Courage, Knowledge, Diligence, Understanding and Expression gate several Social Links and dialogue options. Many players miss links simply because a stat was too low.
  • Fish, garden, read, and work part-time jobs on rainy/evening slots where nothing else is available. These add stats, money, and items.
  • Don't guess on the big December choices. The ending you get depends on a few key decisions late in the year (see the Endings section). Save in a separate slot before them.
  • Talk to Marie. She is new to Golden and her Social Link feeds directly into the Golden-exclusive content and ending.

The Core Loop

Persona 4 Golden alternates two halves:

Half | What you do | Why it matters

Daily life in Inaba | School, Social Links, part-time jobs, fishing, the garden, books, bike/scooter trips | Builds stats, bonds, money and items; Social Links power up fusion and party members

TV World (Midnight Channel dungeons) | Explore floors, fight Shadows, rescue kidnapped people, beat a boss | Story progress, EXP, new Personas, items

The game runs across a school year in Inaba, starting in April. The story is structured around kidnappings: once someone is thrown into the TV, you get a deadline. If the fog rolls in before you finish that dungeon, it is a game over and you are sent back to replay the period.

Weather and the fog deadline

  • Check the weather forecast on TV and the in-game calendar. Consecutive rainy days lead to fog.
  • The dungeon deadline is displayed; aim to finish with a comfortable margin.
  • Rainy days also change which Social Links and activities are available, and some enemies (Golden Hands and similar rare Shadows) are easier to find in certain conditions.

Combat Basics

  • Weakness/crit knockdowns give an extra action ("One More"). Knock everyone down and you get an All-Out Attack.
  • Guard removes weaknesses for that turn. Guard when an enemy is charging a big attack or when a teammate is weak to what a boss is spamming.
  • Scan and analysis: your navigator (Teddie early, Rise later) identifies weaknesses once revealed. Early on, test elements on the first enemy of a new type.
  • Party control: you can issue tactics or set allies to "Direct Commands" for full control. Direct control is safer for bosses.
  • Shuffle Time: after some fights you pick a card for EXP, money, Personas, items or skill-related rewards.
  • Status ailments: Shadows use them heavily in later dungeons. Carry cures and keep a Persona with the right resistances.

Your team

Character | Starting Persona | Role

Protagonist | Izanagi | Wild Card: swaps Personas, any element

Yosuke Hanamura | Jiraiya | Wind, speed, support

Chie Satonaka | Tomoe | Physical, Ice

Yukiko Amagi | Konohana Sakuya | Fire, healing

Kanji Tatsumi | Take-Mikazuchi | Electric, heavy physical

Teddie | Kintoki-Douji | Ice, healing

Naoto Shirogane | Sukuna-Hikona | Light/Dark instant-kill, Almighty

Rise Kujikawa | Himiko | Navigator (not a combatant)

Party members' Personas evolve when their Social Links are maxed, which gives new skills and resistances. Maxing a teammate's link is one of the biggest power spikes in the game.

Dungeons at a Glance

These are the main TV World dungeons in story order (boss names are the dungeon's resident Shadow; details kept light to avoid spoilers):

Dungeon | Resident boss

Yukiko's Castle | Shadow Yukiko

Steamy Bathhouse | Shadow Kanji

Marukyu Striptease | Shadow Rise

Void Quest | Shadow Mitsuo

Secret Laboratory | Shadow Naoto

Heaven | Late-story boss

Magatsu Inaba | Late-story boss

Hollow Forest (Golden only) | Marie's dungeon

Yomotsu Hirasaka | Final boss (True ending route)

Dungeon tips

  • Strike Shadows first from behind for Player Advantage (there is an achievement for this). Getting ambushed gives the enemy a free turn.
  • Watch SP more than HP. Healing items are cheap; SP recovery is scarce early. Back out with a Goho-M style escape item and come back the next day if SP runs dry.
  • Golden Hands are rare Shadows that drop big money and EXP; they flee quickly, so hit weaknesses immediately.
  • The Reaper appears if you linger in dungeons or open chests after the dungeon is cleared. Don't fight it early. There is an achievement for eventually defeating it ("The Reaper Becomes the Reaped").
  • Each dungeon has a midpoint and a boss floor; save and heal before the boss door.

Social Links are relationships tied to Major Arcana. Ranking them up:

  • Makes Personas of that Arcana gain bonus EXP when fused.
  • Unlocks abilities for teammates (follow-ups, protecting the leader, curing ailments, surviving a lethal hit).
  • Is required for the ultimate Persona of each Arcana.
  • Always carry a matching Arcana Persona. Many ranks go up faster.
  • Answer in character. The "friendly" or supportive options are usually right, but not always. If unsure, Quick Save before the conversation.
  • Some links need prerequisites: a minimum social stat, a specific day of the week, or a club you joined.
  • Romance is optional. At a certain rank with some female party members/friends, you can enter a special relationship (the "A Special Lady" achievement). Pursuing several at once has story consequences around Valentine's Day, so pick carefully if you care.
  • Golden-only links: Marie (Aeon) and Tohru Adachi (Jester) are new in Golden. Marie's link is tied to the Golden ending and her dungeon; Adachi's link is a unique story-driven link.

Useful activities by stat

Stat | Good ways to raise it

Knowledge | Studying at night, the library, some part-time jobs, answering in class

Courage | Specific foods and challenges around town, some jobs, stronger choices

Diligence | Club activities, part-time jobs, the garden, crafts at home

Understanding | Part-time jobs involving people, reading certain books

Expression | Club activities, some part-time jobs, books

"Mr. Perfect" is the achievement for maxing all five social stats in one run. It is very achievable in a normal playthrough if you use rainy evenings well.

Personas and Fusion

  • The Velvet Room (with Igor and Margaret, plus Marie in Golden) is where you fuse Personas.
  • Your level caps what you can fuse; you cannot create a Persona above your current level.
  • Skill inheritance: when fusing, the new Persona inherits some skills from its ingredients. Build a strong elemental attacker plus healer early.
  • Skill Cards (a Golden feature): Register them with Marie to reuse. They let you teach skills directly. The "A Favor for Marie" and "Card Collector" achievements come from this.
  • Compendium: register Personas so you can re-buy them later. Always re-register after leveling a Persona to keep the stronger version.
  • Fusion accidents can happen and produce an unexpected result. Occasionally they are useful; save first if you want a specific Persona.
  • Special fusions require three or more Personas and specific combinations. They produce many of the best Personas.

Suggested Persona approach

  • Keep one Persona for each element you need to hit (Fire, Ice, Electric, Wind), plus a healer.
  • Prioritize Personas with resistances to what the current dungeon's enemies spam.
  • Late game, aim for Personas with Almighty damage and full-party buffs. Buff/debuff skills (attack up, defense down) are more valuable than they look, especially on bosses.

Money, Items and Side Activities

  • Part-time jobs: good steady income and stat gains, plus some jobs lead to Social Links.
  • Fishing: fish can be traded for items. Catching the Sea Guardian is an achievement.
  • The garden (Golden): plant, then harvest items you can use in dungeons.
  • Boxed lunches: cooking them builds Social Links with party members; "Cooking With Gas" is the achievement for 5 perfect lunches.
  • Tanaka's Amazing Commodities: a TV shopping channel with unique items on specific days (an achievement for buying 5 things).
  • Books: reading them raises stats and unlocks utility.
  • Local spots: Aiya's special dish (achievement "Food Fighter"), Chagall Café coffee, Sozai Daigaku croquettes, and the 30 Frame movie theater each have their own achievements.

Difficulty

Persona 4 Golden offers several difficulty presets, from very easy to very hard, and you can change difficulty from the settings mid-run. If a boss is a roadblock, lowering difficulty for one fight is completely fine; none of the Steam achievements depend on difficulty.

On higher difficulties:

  • Enemies hit much harder, so resistances from fusion matter more than raw level.
  • Bosses punish unbuffed teams. Prioritize attack/defense buffs and debuffs.

Endings (Light Spoilers, No Plot Details)

There are several endings:

Ending | How you get it (spoiler-light)

Bad ending | Make the wrong call in the key hospital decision in December

Normal ending | Avoid the bad-ending choice, but fail to identify the real culprit or stop investigating

True ending | Make the right December choices, name the right culprit, and later follow up on the lingering mystery instead of leaving it alone

Accomplice ending (Golden only) | Rank up Adachi's Jester link far enough and a late-year choice appears that ends the game early

Golden ending | Get the True ending and rescue Marie from the Hollow Forest; adds an epilogue set months later

Practical advice

  • In early December, when the story pushes you toward a drastic action, think about whether it actually makes sense. Wikipedia's summary notes that throwing the suspect into the TV at that point leads to the bad ending.
  • Keep a hard save from late November onward in a separate slot.
  • The True ending needs you to keep questioning the story near the end of the year and again at the very end of the game.
  • For the Golden ending, keep Marie's Social Link moving throughout the year and clear the Hollow Forest to rescue her when it becomes available (it opens after the winter ski trip).
  • If you are building Adachi's link, save in a separate slot before his high-rank events: one option there leads to the Accomplice ending, not the True one.

Missables and Completion Planning

A first playthrough rarely maxes every Social Link. That is normal.

  • New Game+ carries over key progress (for example the Compendium and much of your stats/money depending on your choices). Use NG+ for the "Legend of Inaba" achievement (max all Social Links) and "Thorough Bookkeeper" (complete the Compendium).
  • Exams: study in the days before exams and answer class questions correctly. Ranking first is the "Head of the Class" achievement.
  • Miracle Quiz: answering TV quiz questions correctly leads to the "A New Quiz King" finals achievement.
  • Hardcore Risette Fan: hearing 250 of Rise's navigation lines comes naturally over a long run.
  • The final optional challenge is Margaret, tied to maxing her Social Link. It is a real endgame fight; bring a Persona lineup that can handle every element.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Doing a dungeon across multiple days when one run would do. Wasting days is the biggest long-term cost.
  • Ignoring Social Links in the first two months. Early ranks are cheap and the benefits compound.
  • Not carrying matching Arcana Personas during Social Link time.
  • Leaving stats too low and then finding a Social Link or option locked in autumn.
  • Selling or fusing away a Persona you haven't registered. Always register before fusing.
  • Fighting the Reaper early.
  • Relying on autopilot tactics for bosses. Use Direct Commands.
  • Not saving in separate slots before December.

Advanced Tips

  • Plan by day of the week. Many Social Link characters are only available on certain days. Write down which days each friend is available once you meet them.
  • Rainy days close some outdoor links but open others, and they are great for stat-building activities.
  • Stack buffs before a boss's big turn, and use Guard when a boss telegraphs a strong attack.
  • Fuse for the next dungeon's enemies, not the last one. Check the enemies' weaknesses on the first floor and adjust.
  • Keep a dedicated healer Persona with full-party healing if Yukiko or Teddie is not in the party.
  • Use Skill Cards to fix a bad inheritance rather than refusing a good fusion.
  • Bike/scooter trips (Golden) open new areas for outings with friends; take advantage when unlocked.

PC Notes

  • Since the 2023 update the Steam version is 64-bit and needs a 64-bit Windows OS (the announcement lists Windows 8.1 or newer).
  • The same update added French, Italian, Spanish, German, and Simplified Chinese text, Quick Save, and the Album feature (view memories from the sofa in your room).
  • Version 1.05 (April 2023) is the most recent game patch in Steam news; it fixed a resolution setting bug and some progression issues.
  • The game supports variable framerates and both Japanese and English voices.
  • A controller is recommended by the developer.
