This guide covers Squad 44 (formerly Post Scriptum): how a 100-player WW2 match actually works, how each role and squad fits in, logistics and deployables, the reworked Offensive mode, armor crews, and habits that make you a player squad leaders want.

Researched September 2026, current as of Hotfix v2.6.1 (18 February 2026) on top of Update 2.6 (4 February 2026) and the 2.5 Offensive rework (December 2025). Live games change; check the linked sources if something differs.

Quick Start

  • Join a squad and get on voice. Squad 44 is built around communication. Proximity chat, squad radio and squad-leader channels are core mechanics, not extras. A silent solo player is close to useless.
  • Stay with your squad leader. Your squad spawns on its rally or spawn tent, and holding objectives needs bodies in one place.
  • Pick a role your squad needs. Riflemen are always fine. Specialist slots (machine gunner, AT, medic, radioman) are limited per squad and matter a lot.
  • Learn the map before you run. Open the map constantly. Squad leader markers tell you where to go.
  • Slow down. One or two hits usually kill. Moving from cover to cover beats sprinting across open fields.
  • Logistics wins games. Radios, spawn tents, ammo crates and guns are built from supplies trucked in by logistics players. If nobody does logistics, the team collapses.
  • Clear your cache after big updates. The devs ask players to do this before joining servers after major patches.
  • Play the Seeding mode to learn. Seeding is a small-scale Advance and Secure mode with all weapons and roles unlocked, a low-pressure way to practice.

What Squad 44 Is

Squad 44 was released as Post Scriptum on 9 August 2018 by Periscope Games. Offworld Industries acquired it in November 2023 and renamed it Squad 44 in December 2023. It's a multiplayer-only tactical WW2 shooter on Unreal Engine 4 with 100-player servers, large maps and historically modeled weapons and vehicles.

Theaters and factions

Theater | Example maps (from official notes and Wikipedia) | Example factions

Operation Market Garden | Arnhem, Oosterbeek, Driel, Veghel, Grave | British 1st Airborne, Polish Airborne, German forces

Battle of France (1940) | Stonne, Dinant | French Army vs Wehrmacht

Operation Overlord | Utah, St. Marie Du Mont, Longues-sur-Mer | US 4th Infantry Division vs Wehrmacht

Battle of the Bulge | Foy | US vs German forces

Battle of Crete | Maleme, Rethymno | Greek, Australian, New Zealand vs Fallschirmjäger

Pacific Front | Iwo Jima, Guadalcanal | USMC (incl. 5th Marine Division) vs Imperial Japanese Army

Other factions on the store page include the Waffen-SS and the British Army. Update 2.0 "Pacific Front: Iwo Jima" arrived on 19 February 2025 with a 1:1 recreation of the island's southern half and a tunnel network through Mt. Suribachi. Update 2.2 (June 2025) followed with Guadalcanal, including Henderson Field and Edson's Ridge variants across seeding, Frontline and Offensive layers.

Game Modes

Mode | Summary

Offensive / Random Offensive | Attackers push through a sequence of capture points against defenders; reworked in 2.5

Frontline | Objective play including destructible targets like weapon caches, vehicles and deployed mortars

Conquest | Territory control

Invasion | Assault-style layers (fixed in 2.6.1)

Seeding | Small-scale Advance and Secure with everything unlocked, for filling servers

Random Offensive (current rules)

The 2.5 rework and later patches changed Offensive substantially:

  • Randomized capture points. A match picks from a pool of points, so layers play differently each time (5 random capture points per match at the 2.5 launch).
  • Attackers see only the next objective; defenders know the whole sequence from the start.
  • Regroup phase: after the attackers take a point, they get a grace period to "regroup and prepare." This was cut from 3 minutes to 2 minutes in 2.6. Defenders get fixed spawns on the next point during this window.
  • Pre-capping is punished. Attackers pushing ahead to the next point during regroup get a warning and damage over time.
  • Only the active capture point has a flag red zone, and main base red zones shift as points fall.
  • Tickets: as of 2.5.1, RO layers start with 300 attacker tickets and 700 defender tickets.
  • Starting time was raised from 30 to 45 minutes in 2.6.
  • Staging: attackers are confined to main base during staging while defenders set up on the first point.

Roles and Squads

Roles named in official notes include Squad Leader, Platoon Leader, Rifleman, Medic, Gunner (MG), Radioman, and specialists such as AT, Marksman, Sapper, Flamethrower and Grenadier. Availability varies by faction. For example, the USMC gets the M2-2 Flamethrower and Winchester M1912 shotgun, while IJA anti-tank troops carry the Lunge Mine.

Role | Job | Tips

Squad Leader | Leads the squad, places markers and spawn points, talks to other leaders | Needs a radio; talk constantly and give short, clear orders

Rifleman | The backbone: holds ground, pushes, carries extra supplies | Follow the SL's markers; don't wander

Medic | Revives and heals | Stay slightly behind the line; smoke before a revive under fire

Machine Gunner | Suppression and area denial | Set up on a flank with good sightlines; relocate after firing

AT | Anti-tank rockets, rifles or mines | Hunt armor with a buddy; know the weak spots on enemy tanks

Sapper | Explosives and engineering work | Clear or build obstacles; blow objectives in Frontline

Radioman | Carries radio gear so the squad can call support | Update 2.6 added second radioman roles for some factions

Commander / Platoon Leader | Calls in artillery, strafing runs and smoke; coordinates squads | The store page mentions ordering gun runs or artillery; Iwo Jima added Navy Smoke and HE Artillery

Logistics and Deployables

Logistics is the least glamorous and most decisive job in Squad 44.

  • Supply trucks carry resources from main base to the front.
  • Radios anchor a squad's forward presence and let other deployables be built nearby.
  • Spawn tents now work like rally points and can't be placed inside cap zones (2.6).
  • Ammo crates and repair stations keep infantry and vehicles fighting.
  • Emplacements: AT guns and flak (e.g. Pak 36, Flak 36) give a position real teeth.

Rules changed in 2.5 and 2.6:

Rule | Current value/behavior

Big logistic guns | Can be placed without a radio (2.5)

If the radio is destroyed | Only the spawn tent, ammo crate, repair station and smaller weapons are destroyed. Larger deployables stay until a red zone moves over them (2.5)

Logistic AT placements | Global limit of 4 per team (2.6)

Flak 36 | Global limit of 2 per team (2.6)

Deployable costs | Reduced in 2.5 after testing

Practical tip: if you're a logistics driver, ask squad leaders where they want supplies before driving off. A truck parked at the wrong point wastes minutes.

Armor

Tanks are crewed by several players in an armoured section. The store describes joining "a battalion with three other players" as driver, gunner or commander.

  • The commander spots, the gunner shoots, the driver positions. Talk constantly on the vehicle channel.
  • Stay with infantry. Tanks without infantry support get picked off by AT teams and sappers.
  • Angle your armor toward threats and don't expose side armor to known AT positions.
  • Use repair stations from logistics instead of driving back to main.
  • Check the tank deck. Available tanks depend on faction and chapter. Recent patches moved vehicles like the Matilda II, B1, Chi-Ha variants and M3/M5 Stuart light tanks between decks.

Infantry Fundamentals

  • Suppression is real. Incoming fire blurs your vision and hurts accuracy. Return fire to suppress back, or move.
  • Bound with a buddy. One moves while the other covers.
  • Use smoke to cross open ground and cover revives.
  • Call contacts well: direction, distance and what it is ("MG, north-east, 200, in the hedgerow").
  • Don't bunch up. Artillery and grenades punish clusters.
  • Know when to redeploy. If your squad is wiped and far from the objective, redeploying to a closer spawn beats a long walk.

Squad Leader Crash Course

  • Set up your squad radio and spawn tent early, supplied by logistics.
  • Keep one channel to the squad and one to other leaders/command.
  • Give short, single-purpose orders tied to markers.
  • Place spawn points close enough to reach the fight but out of the enemy's direct line of sight.
  • On Random Offensive, use the 2-minute regroup phase to rebuild spawns and resupply for the next point.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Lone-wolfing. You'll die alone and waste tickets.
  • Sprinting in the open. Most deaths come from moving without cover.
  • Taking a specialist kit and not using it. Limited kits should go to players who'll use them for the squad.
  • Ignoring logistics. No supplies means no spawns, ammo or guns.
  • Pre-capping in Random Offensive. It now damages you and triggers warnings.
  • Placing spawn tents inside cap zones. Since 2.6 that isn't allowed.
  • Driving tanks without infantry. A lone tank is an easy AT kill.

Advanced Tips

  • Defenders: use the regroup phase to set up on the next point with overlapping MG fire and AT coverage.
  • Attackers: open with smoke and commander assets, then push on several flanks at once. Tickets are much tighter for attackers (300 vs 700).
  • Flank for spawns. Destroying enemy radios or spawn tents is often worth more than any single capture.
  • Coordinate armor with AT placements so enemy tanks get funneled into your guns.
  • Learn chapter-specific kits. Pacific maps play differently: flamethrowers, tunnels and dense jungle on Guadalcanal.
  • Keep an eye on changelogs for vehicle deck and deployable limit changes. They swing meta decisions.
