Warface: Clutch has been shut down in the West. This guide covers what happened and when, what it means for your account, purchases and refunds, what the game was, and where to go next.

Researched September 2026 — current as of the sunset: global PC servers closed May 27, 2026 and console servers August 25, 2026. Live games change; check the linked sources if something differs.

Quick Start

  • The global game is offline. MY.GAMES shut down the Warface: Clutch PC servers on May 27, 2026 and the console servers on August 25, 2026. The Steam version (app 291480) no longer connects to live servers.
  • In-game purchases stopped on February 26, 2026. From then until shutdown you could still use existing currency and items, but you couldn't buy anything new.
  • Your items are gone. Once the servers closed, all in-game content became inaccessible. MY.GAMES announced no account migration or item transfer.
  • Refunds go through your store or MY.GAMES support. Coverage reports say players could ask for refunds through their platform's support (Steam, Epic Games Store, Nintendo, Xbox, PlayStation) or through MY.GAMES Support. Success depends on each store's policy.
  • The game is being delisted from digital storefronts. Library copies may remain but won't work, because the game needs constant server connectivity.
  • The CIS/Russian version is separate. It's run by Astrum Entertainment, and Wikipedia reports it remains active on PC. It's a different service, and your global account and inventory don't carry over.
  • Want something similar? Look for another free-to-play, class-based military shooter that has both PvP and co-op PvE (see "What Warface Was" for the features to look for).

MY.GAMES' announcement said: "After many years together, we have made the difficult decision to begin the sunset process for Warface: Clutch." The company said the decision followed "an evaluation of the project's long-term prospects" and that it was moving resources to other products and new initiatives. Between February 26 and the shutdown dates, players could keep playing with the content and items they already owned.

The official shutdown FAQ, posted on the Steam news feed on February 26, 2026, put it this way: "All eligible funds can be refunded in accordance with the policies of the platform where the purchase was made."

The Final Seasons (Late 2025 to February 2026)

The game was still getting regular content right up to the sunset announcement, which is why the shutdown surprised a lot of active players. Here's what the last few months of official updates added, per the Warface: Clutch Steam news feed:

Update | What it added

20.11.2025 | Bergara MG sniper rifle; Outcast (part 2), Grunge, Cardinal and Network weapon series; new Sniper and Rifleman skins for Agent Shi Hao

Late November 2025 | Gold Rush PvP mode: collect ingots from safes and downed enemies and bank them at turn-in stations. First team to 175 ingots (or the leader when time runs out) wins. Played on Bridges Modern and Destination Modern

18.12.2025 | Echoes of Valor season: the Stronghold Special Operation, the ShAK-12 battle rifle, a Battle Pass, seasonal Prestige levels and a Ranked Matches season. The season was scheduled to run until March 19, 2026

December 2025 | Agent Linus Rimmel (Rifleman first) and a Christmas event with the Ice Power weapon series

15.01.2026 | Hera Arms CQR and Bushmaster BA50 returned to the arsenal; Medic skin for Linus Rimmel

12.02.2026 | Engineer and Sniper for Linus Rimmel, the PPK-20 SMG, and the Forbidden Science event

A "Winter 2026" roadmap also promised faster weapon progression. It raised weapon mastery and Armory bonuses from 25% to 50%, and added infinite weapon progression past max level, paying out 40 parts per level. Two weeks after the February 12 update, the sunset was announced and purchases were switched off.

Stronghold, the last Special Operation

MY.GAMES published a full official guide to Stronghold in December 2025, so it's the best-documented of the late raids. The mission sends the squad to Labyrinth Island to rescue General Wharton. The co-op version runs through five sections:

  • Rocky Shore: a landing under fire from sniper positions.
  • Old City: narrow streets with dug-in defenders.
  • Bridge: a crossing with an allied Mech in support.
  • Catacombs: flooded tunnels.
  • Heart of the Labyrinth: the final boss fight.

A separate solo Campaign mission told Wharton's side of the escape, through the prison, the bridge tiers and the catacombs, and ended with eliminating the traitor Scott. Both missions had their own achievements.

What Warface Was

Useful if you're looking for a replacement or just remembering the game.

Classes

Class | Role | Signature kit

Rifleman | Frontline damage | Assault rifles and LMGs; handed out ammo to the team

Medic | Close-range and sustain | Shotguns; defibrillator revives and med kits

Engineer | Mobile SMG fighter, utility | SMGs; armor repair kits and claymores

Sniper | Long-range picks | Bolt-action and semi-auto sniper rifles

SED | Humanoid robot class (added later) | Heavy weapons, used in particular modes

The class loop was the heart of Warface: a squad needed a Medic to revive, an Engineer to repair armor, and a Rifleman to keep ammo flowing. In PvE that synergy mattered more than raw aim.

In its last years the game also sold Agents: named characters such as Linus Rimmel and Shi Hao, each tied to specific classes and cosmetic skins. They were cosmetic and class variants rather than separate classes.

Modes

  • PvP: Team Deathmatch, Plant the Bomb, Storm, Free for All and more, plus ranked matches. A Battle Royale mode was added during the game's life.
  • PvE: Co-op missions and multi-stage Special Operations raids with bosses (Stronghold was one of the last to get an official full guide), the best source of rare gear.
  • Battle Pass seasons added themed rewards (for example, the Storm Peak seasonal content and the final Echoes of Valor season).
  • Limited events rotated in special modes, such as the Forbidden Science event's Bounty Hunt matches in February 2026.

Economy

Wikipedia lists the currencies as Experience Points (rank), Warface Dollars (renting and buying equipment), Vendor Points (unlocking the arsenal) and premium Kredits bought with real money, alongside crates, sponsor unlock trees, seasonal battle passes and events. All of this is now inaccessible on global servers.

How it was received

Warface was developed originally by Crytek Kiev. It won "Best Social/Casual/Online Game" at Gamescom 2012 and "Best FPS Game" at G-Star 2012, but reviews were mixed: Metacritic lists 62/100 for PC and 60/100 for Xbox 360. It still ran for about 13 years in the West, which is a long life for a free-to-play shooter.

If You Still Have the Game Installed

  • Uninstall it. The global client can't connect to anything, so it's just using disk space.
  • Check your store's refund options if you bought anything recently. Policies differ, and some stores are strict about how long ago you paid.
  • Save your memories. Screenshots and clips are all that's left of loadouts and match history. There's no data export.
  • Ask about your personal data if it matters to you. The shutdown FAQ says personal data is kept "in accordance with applicable laws and the MY.GAMES Privacy Policy." Players keep the right to request access to their data or its deletion by contacting customer support.
  • Support requests filed before closure still count. MY.GAMES said support would stay available through the shutdown period, and that all requests submitted before the closure would be reviewed and processed. If you filed a ticket before your platform's shutdown date, keep the ticket reference.
  • Watch for scams. Sites offering "Warface account recovery," "private servers with your items" or "Clutch revival" downloads are not from MY.GAMES. Don't give them your MY.GAMES credentials.

Where to Go Next

There's no official successor, so choose by what you actually played Warface for:

If you loved... | Look for...

PvE Special Operations with bosses | Co-op shooters with raid-style missions and gear progression

Class interplay (revives, ammo, armor) | Team shooters with hard class roles and a revive system

Plant the Bomb and ranked PvP | Round-based tactical shooters with a bomb mode and ranked queue

MY.GAMES' ecosystem | MY.GAMES still runs War Robots: Frontiers, a free-to-play mech shooter it promoted on the Warface: Clutch Steam news feed; it's a very different game (robots, not soldiers)

Whatever you pick, start fresh: nothing from your Warface inventory, rank or purchase history carries over to any other game.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Assuming the Russian version is the same service. It isn't. Different operator, different accounts, and no inventory transfer.
  • Downloading "private server" clients. Unofficial server emulators and repacks are common malware vectors and violate the old terms.
  • Waiting on a refund you never requested. Refunds only happen if you contact your platform's support or MY.GAMES Support yourself.
  • Buying "Warface keys" or currency from resellers. Anything sold after February 26, 2026 for the global version is worthless.

Advanced Tips (for veterans moving on)

  • Pick a successor by what you liked. If you loved PvE Special Operations, look for a co-op shooter with raid-style bosses. If you loved PvP class interplay, look for a class-based competitive FPS.
  • Carry the class habits over: calling for revives, dropping resupplies, and pre-aiming Plant the Bomb angles work in most tactical shooters.
  • Keep your MY.GAMES account secure if you use it for other games. Scammers target players from shut-down games with fake "compensation" emails.
