Campaign walkthrough outline and collectibles, every Titan explained, Pilot movement tech, loadouts, multiplayer modes, and how to actually find matches in 2026 (official servers and the Northstar modding client).

Researched September 2026 — current as of the final retail build of Titanfall 2 on Steam (no official content updates since the post-launch DLC era; last official server-stability patch in 2023). Live games change; check the linked sources if something differs.

State of the game: Titanfall 2 is still sold on Steam (often deeply discounted as the Ultimate Edition) and the campaign is fully offline-capable after install. Official multiplayer suffered years of DDoS attacks from 2021 onward; EA shipped a stability patch in September 2023 and official matchmaking works but has a small population. Much of the PC multiplayer community plays on Northstar, a free community client with custom servers.

Quick Start

  • Play the campaign first. It's around 5–7 hours, widely considered one of the best FPS campaigns ever made, and it teaches movement better than any tutorial.
  • Movement is the game. Wallrun, double jump, and slide constantly. Standing still gets you killed in every mode.
  • Slide-hop to keep speed. Sprint, slide, and jump just as the slide ends; chaining this keeps your momentum high.
  • As a Pilot, rodeo enemy Titans. Jump on their back to rip out a battery (and give it to your own Titan) or drop a grenade inside.
  • Batteries matter. Picking up a battery and delivering it to a friendly Titan restores shields and speeds up its Core.
  • Call your Titan early and use it. Titanfall time is earned faster by killing, and a Titan left idle is wasted.
  • Every Titan has a Core ability — a big ultimate that charges over time. Save it for a fight, not for chasing a fleeing enemy.
  • Use the Ultimate Edition perks. It unlocks all Titans and Pilot tacticals plus credits, so new players skip the grind.
  • For multiplayer on PC, try official matchmaking first; if queues are empty, install Northstar (see below).

Controls and Movement

Rebind in Options > Controls; the HUD always shows the current key for your tactical, ordnance, Titanfall, Core and Boost prompts. The core inputs:

Action | How

Double jump | Jump again in mid-air (Pilot jump kit)

Wallrun | Jump at a wall at an angle while moving forward

Slide | Crouch while sprinting

Call Titan | Press the Titanfall prompt when the meter is full

Embark / disembark | Hold Use near your Titan / inside it

Eject | Triple-tap Use while doomed

Rodeo | Jump onto an enemy Titan's back

Movement tech worth learning

  • Wallrunning: Jump at a wall at an angle while moving. You can shoot at full accuracy with most weapons while wallrunning.
  • Wall hop/chain: Jump from one wall to the next without touching the ground to keep momentum.
  • Slide-hopping: Sprint → slide → jump near the end of the slide. Repeat on flat ground to go faster than sprinting.
  • Grapple: Pull toward walls and ledges; combine with a slide at the end for huge speed. The Grapple tactical is also a mobility weapon in its own right.
  • Stim: Temporary speed boost and faster regen; the most straightforward speed tactical.
  • The Gauntlet: The training course in the hub is the best place to practice. The The Student... achievement asks you to beat Pilot Anderson's ghost time; ...Becomes the Master asks for a top-3 placement on the Gauntlet scoreboard.

The Campaign

Missions in order

  • The Pilot's Gauntlet — training.
  • BT-7274 — meet BT, learn Titan combat.
  • Blood and Rust — first Apex Predator boss (Kane).
  • Into the Abyss — factory/assembly-line set pieces; fight Ash.
  • Effect and Cause — the famous time-shift level. Swap between past and present to cross gaps and dodge enemies.
  • The Beacon — climb a giant dish; long, vertical, with Richter at the end.
  • Trial by Fire — heavy Titan combat as the Militia regroups for the push on the IMC fleet.
  • The Ark — the big ship assault on the IMC fleet and the Draconis; Viper tries to stop you boarding.
  • The Fold Weapon — finale.

Boss fights are against the Apex Predators, Blisk's mercenary crew, met in this order: Kane and Ash (on the way through the reclamation facility and factory), Richter (at the communications array), Viper (as you try to board the Draconis), then Slone in the finale. BT picks up new Titan loadouts as you progress (several from defeated bosses, others from weapon caches); you can swap between unlocked loadouts on the fly.

BT's loadouts and Cores

Each loadout has a Core with its own "destroy a Titan with..." achievement:

Loadout | Core | Achievement

Expedition (default) | Burst Core | Excessive Force

Tone | Salvo Core | Fire Everything!

Legion | Smart Core | Aim Bot

Northstar | Flight Core | Angel of Death

Ion | Laser Core | Face Melter

Scorch | Flame Core | Flame On!

Ronin | Sword Core | I have the Power!

Collecting all of BT's loadouts gives Jack of All Trades.

Collectibles: Pilot helmets

Hidden Pilot helmets are scattered through the missions (usually in out-of-the-way ledges, vents and wallrun routes). Achievements unlock at 10 (Off the Beaten Path), 25 (Collector), and all (Every Nook and Cranny). Mission select shows collected counts per level, so you can mop up later.

Other campaign achievements to plan for

  • Robot Army — 6+ friendly Stalkers at once (using the hack/Stalker control moments).
  • Coup de Grace — melee-execute a Mercenary (boss) Titan.
  • Hat Trick — kill 3 Titans with one Core.
  • Annihilation — 25 infantry in 2 seconds as a Titan (hardest; best on a big infantry wave with a Core active).
  • It Was Coming Right For Us — kill a caged Prowler in the Wildlife Research Labs area.
  • Renowned Pilot (Hard) and Legendary Pilot (Master) — difficulty clears. Master is tough; lean on Ion/Legion/Tone for sustained damage and play Titan fights from cover.

Titans (Multiplayer)

Titan | Primary | Playstyle | Core

Ion | Splitter Rifle | Energy management, Laser Shot, Vortex Shield to catch and return fire; Tripwire traps | Laser Core

Scorch | T-203 Thermite Launcher | Area denial with Incendiary Traps and Firewall; brutal at chokepoints and on objectives | Flame Core

Northstar | Plasma Railgun | Long-range charged shots, Cluster Missile, Tether Trap, VTOL Hover | Flight Core

Ronin | Leadwall shotgun | Close-range flanker: Phase Dash, Arc Wave, Sword Block | Sword Core

Tone | 40mm Tracker Cannon | Lock on with Sonar Pulse and tracker shots, then Tracker Rockets; Particle Wall for defense | Salvo Core

Legion | Predator Cannon | Tank; Gun Shield, Power Shot, long/close range mode switch | Smart Core

Monarch | XO-16 | Support/sustain Vanguard; Rearm, Energy Siphon, Energy Thief for shields; upgrade path during the match | Upgrade Core

Kits and upgrades: Each Titan has class-specific kits (e.g., Scorch's Wildfire Launcher, Legion's Hidden Compartment). Monarch's Upgrade Core chooses one of three upgrades each time it fires, with a final "tier" per loadout — pick them to match your team's needs.

Titan tips

  • Dash is your survival tool; don't burn both charges moving forward.
  • Fight near cover so you can break line of sight to recharge shields.
  • If an enemy Pilot rodeos you, get to a friendly or disembark and shoot them off — don't keep fighting another Titan while your battery is being pulled.
  • Doom state: when your health is gone, you're "doomed" and will die to further damage — eject at the right time rather than feeding a kill.

Pilot Loadouts

Tacticals

Tactical | Use

Cloak | Near-invisible to Pilots; great vs. Titans for rodeo

Pulse Blade | Reveals enemies in an area; strong info tool

Grapple | Mobility king; high skill ceiling

Stim | Speed plus fast healing; easiest good pick

A-Wall | Deployable cover that amps your shots through it

Phase Shift | Brief escape into another dimension

Holo Pilot | Decoy to bait shots

Ordnance

Frag Grenade, Arc Grenade (great vs. Titans and Pilots), Firestar, Gravity Star, Electric Smoke, Satchel.

  • R-201 / R-101 — reliable ARs.
  • CAR, R-97, Alternator, Volt — SMGs for movement-heavy play.
  • Flatline, Hemlok, G2A5 — rifles with higher per-shot damage.
  • EVA-8, Mastiff — shotguns.
  • Kraber — the one-shot sniper; high skill ceiling.
  • Anti-Titan: Charge Rifle, Thunderbolt, Archer, MGL, Sidewinder. Every loadout carries one; fire it at Titans instead of your primary.
  • Pistols: RE-45, P2016, Wingman Elite, B3 Wingman, Mozambique, and the Smart Pistol (a Boost in TF2).

Boosts

Earned over a match; examples include Amped Weapons, Ticks, Pilot Sentry, Map Hack, Battery Back-up, Radar Jammer, Titan Sentry, Smart Pistol, Phase Rewind, Hard Cover, and Holo Pilot Nova. Amped Weapons and Map Hack are safe defaults.

Multiplayer Modes

Mode | What it is

Attrition | Classic Titanfall: Pilots, Titans, and AI grunts; score points to win

Bounty Hunt | Kill AI to earn cash, bank it between waves

Pilots vs Pilots | No Titans or AI; pure movement gunfights

Capture the Flag | Pilots-only CTF; mobility tacticals shine

Amped Hardpoint | Capture and amp points for extra score

Last Titan Standing | Everyone starts in a Titan, one life

Frontier Defense | 4-player co-op vs. AI waves (added in the Operation Frontier Shield DLC)

Live Fire / Skirmish | Smaller or rotating playlists

Frontier Defense has its own Titan progression and difficulty tiers; it's the best way to level Titans against AI.

Playing Online in 2026

Official servers

  • Launch from Steam; you need an EA account and the EA app.
  • Queues are best during EU/NA evenings. Attrition and Frontier Defense are the playlists most likely to fill.
  • If you hit connection issues, set your data center manually in the multiplayer lobby.

Northstar (PC community client)

  • Northstar is a free modding and custom server framework for the Steam/EA version of Titanfall 2, with a browser of community servers.
  • Installers: FlightCore (Windows/Linux, built-in mod browser), VTOL (Windows, supports Thunderstore mods), or Viper (simple auto-updater). Manual install from GitHub works but won't auto-update.
  • Northstar servers run the regular modes plus community modes and mods; progression is separate from official servers.
  • Always download installers from the official northstar.tf site or its GitHub, not from random mirrors.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Walking on the ground. Wallrun and slide everywhere.
  • Shooting Titans with your primary. Swap to the anti-Titan weapon, or rodeo.
  • Ejecting too early or too late. Eject when doomed and about to die, not at full shields.
  • Wasting your Core on a fleeing Titan or an empty lane.
  • Ignoring batteries. Rodeo steals shields from enemies and feeds your team's Titans.
  • Skipping the campaign. It teaches movement, and it's the best content in the game.

Advanced Tips

  • Tap-strafing and air control: Changing direction in the air while strafing lets you curve around corners; practice in the Gauntlet.
  • Grapple slingshot: Grapple, release early, and slide on landing to gain speed.
  • Battery economy: Steal a battery from an enemy Titan, then deliver it to your weakest friendly Titan — a single swing like that often decides Attrition matches.
  • Kraber quickscopes reward players who've mastered movement since you can shoot mid-slide.
  • Frontier Defense teamwork: Scorch and Legion/Tone are strong wave clearers; Monarch supports the team with shield regen.

FAQ

Is Titanfall 2 multiplayer still alive? Yes, but small. Official servers work after the 2023 stability patch, and on PC the Northstar community client hosts many active custom servers.

Do I need Titanfall 1 or Apex Legends for the story? No. The campaign stands alone, though it's set in the same universe as Apex Legends.

How long is the campaign? About 5–7 hours on Regular; longer on Master or if you hunt all helmets.

What's the best Titan for beginners? Legion or Tone for straightforward, forgiving damage; Ion for versatility; Scorch for defending objectives.

What does the Ultimate Edition include? The base game, Deluxe cosmetics (Scorch and Ion Prime Titans, warpaints, camos, nose arts), plus a jump-starter with all Titans and Pilot tacticals unlocked, credits, and double-XP tokens.

Is Northstar safe and allowed? It's the long-running community project used by most of the PC custom-server scene. Get it only from the official site/GitHub; it runs separate from official matchmaking.
