A practical guide to Brick Rigs: getting around the game, building your first working vehicle in the editor, the logic bricks (math, sensors, switches), multiplayer hosting, the Workshop, and everything new up to Update 1.11.

Researched September 2026 — current as of Update 1.11 (released 18 September 2026). Live games change; check the linked sources if something differs.

Quick Start

  • Press T for Input Help. Since Update 1.11, the input help menu has its own keybind (T by default) with clear categories and icons for most actions. It's the fastest way to learn controls.
  • Spawn Workshop vehicles first. Driving and destroying other people's builds teaches you what's possible before you open the editor.
  • Start small in the editor. A four-wheel car with a seat, engine, wheels and a steering input is the perfect first build.
  • Every working vehicle needs a seat for Bob (the player) to control it, plus something that drives it (engine and wheels, thrusters, or propellers).
  • Use mirror mode to build symmetric vehicles in half the time.
  • Use welds sparingly. Update 1.10's welds make bricks behave as one piece that never breaks apart; great for small parts, bad for destruction if overused.
  • Unflip instead of respawning. Since 1.10 you can unflip without repairing, or teleport to your last respawn point.
  • Host with a whitelist if you want a controlled server; 1.11 lets you whitelist whole Workshop collections.

What Brick Rigs Is

Brick Rigs is a physics sandbox from Fluppisoft: build vehicles, machines, creatures or buildings from bricks, then drive, fly, sail and wreck them with dynamic destruction physics. The full 1.0 release arrived on 14 July 2023; the older version is referred to as "legacy", and legacy vehicles can still be spawned.

Playing: Getting Around

  • Bob is the face of Brick Rigs. He can walk, enter seats and use handheld items.
  • Spawn menu: pick your own vehicles or subscribed Workshop items.
  • Maps include the City, Bricksville and the Canyon (which gained two airstrips in 1.11), among others.
  • Game modes: the free sandbox plus hostable modes such as battle and zombie modes. 1.11 also added a random weather match setting.
  • Dashboards (1.11): the vehicle dashboard at the bottom of the screen shows only actions the current vehicle supports (no lights, no headlight button). The camera dashboard manages the vehicle camera, free camera and slow motion. With input help open you can click them and see their keybinds.

Useful Features

  • Slow motion for dramatic crashes.
  • Free camera for screenshots and spectating.
  • Unflip and teleport to last respawn point (1.10).
  • Handheld guns with selectable ammo types (1.6) and switchable fire modes (1.8).

The Editor: Your First Vehicle

Workflow

  • Open the editor and start a new file (Ctrl+N or the dropdown menu).
  • Place a base plate or chassis bricks.
  • Add wheels (scalable since 1.7).
  • Add an engine and make sure the wheels you want driven actually receive power (check each wheel's properties panel).
  • Place a seat; this is where Bob controls the vehicle.
  • Set wheel steering so the front wheels respond to steering input.
  • Add lights, exhausts and body panels.
  • Test drive, then return to the editor to fix what broke.

Building Tips

  • Mirror mode copies bricks to the other side automatically. 1.6.2 reworked mirroring to avoid floating-point drift.
  • Editor groups (1.10) let you group bricks to select and edit them together. They have no effect outside the editor.
  • Welds (1.10) make multiple bricks behave as one brick that never falls apart. Keep weld groups small, such as one bumper or door, so crashes still look good.
  • Patterns can now be scaled, rotated and offset (1.10).
  • Scalable bricks let you size wheels, thrusters, flaps, fuel tanks and more precisely instead of stacking many fixed-size bricks.
  • Lower brick counts mean better performance, especially in multiplayer.

Tracks, Aircraft and Boats

  • Tracked vehicles: use sprocket and idler wheels (1.7).
  • Aircraft: combine thrusters or propellers with flaps (scalable since 1.8). Keep the center of mass near the center of lift and test in the Canyon's new airstrips.
  • Countermeasures: flare bricks (1.7) decoy heat-seeking missiles.
  • Spinner brick (1.8): creates arches and circles at custom angles and radii; perfect for curved bodywork.

Logic: Math, Sensors and Switches

Brick Rigs has a full input-output channel system for automating vehicles.

Brick type | What it does

Switch bricks | Toggle or trigger outputs; can be given custom names (1.6)

Sensor bricks | Read values such as altitude over sea level, time of day, wind speed and direction, frames per second and frame delta time (1.8), plus X and Y position (1.10)

Math bricks | Process values; 1.10 added equal/not-equal, and 1.11 added dozens more: derivatives and integrals, logarithms and roots, logic and comparisons, interpolation and remapping, clamps, filters, rate limiting, hold functions and pulse generation

RC bricks | Remote control links

Detonators | Trigger explosions

Actuators | Move parts based on inputs

Example projects:

  • Auto-leveling aircraft: feed an altitude or angle sensor into math bricks that adjust flaps.
  • Automatic lights: use the time-of-day sensor to switch lights on at night.
  • Cruise control: compare current speed to a target with math bricks and adjust the throttle. The 1.11 clamp and rate-limit functions stop the throttle from jerking.
  • Blinking beacons: feed a light from a math brick set to pulse generation (1.11) for a simple flasher.
  • Sirens: since 1.11, an analog horn input can control siren volume.

Start with one sensor and one output, confirm it works, then chain more logic.

The Workshop

  • Browse the Steam Workshop for vehicles, buildings and creatures.
  • Subscribe to download; items appear in your spawn menu.
  • Use Workshop vehicles as learning material: open them in the editor to see how they're built.
  • Mods: mods from older versions may not work after major updates (Fluppisoft warned that 1.6-era mods may break on 1.7). Remove outdated mods if you crash.

Multiplayer and Hosting

  • Join public servers for roleplay, races and chaos, or host your own.
  • Admin access (1.10): hosts can set a password so trusted players can log in as admins.
  • Vehicle whitelists: allow only approved vehicles; since 1.11 you can whitelist entire Workshop collections.
  • Public Workshop only (1.6.2): an alternative that blocks private or unlisted uploads.
  • Moderation: kick from the chat context menu, ban via Steam ID (including offline players), and watch chat notifications for failed vehicle spawns to spot server-crashing builds.
  • Vehicle limits: match settings warn about vehicle limits; set them sensibly for your hardware.

Performance

  • Use DLSS (NVIDIA) or FSR (AMD and others, 1.9) to raise frame rates.
  • Lower brick counts and fewer active vehicles help both singleplayer and servers.
  • Linux users can run the native build (1.9) instead of Proton or Wine.
  • If the game crashes, the crash reporter (1.9) can send details to the developers; there's also a public GitHub bug tracker.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Forgetting the seat. No seat, no control.
  • Building huge before building working. Get a small vehicle running first.
  • Welding the whole vehicle. It kills the destruction physics.
  • Unbalanced aircraft with the center of mass far from the lift.
  • Running old mods after big updates.
  • Hosting without a whitelist on a public server.
  • Ignoring Input Help. Many features are only obvious there.

Advanced Tips

  • Name your switches and cameras so passengers know what each does.
  • Order seats and cameras logically (1.8 added display names and ordering).
  • Use scalable thrusters to fine-tune power instead of adding more bricks.
  • Use exhaust trail effects (1.8) for jets and rockets.
  • Group bricks by function (drivetrain, body, weapons) so edits are quick.
  • Test destruction by crashing prototypes before publishing to the Workshop.
