A guide to Telltale's The Walking Dead: Season Two: how save imports work, an episode-by-episode outline with the major decisions (spoilers are marked), the endings, achievements and fixes for playing it today.

Researched September 2026 — current as of the Skybound Games re-release on Steam (the season itself finished in August 2014 and receives no updates). Live games change; check the linked sources if something differs.

Availability note: after Telltale Games closed in 2018, its Walking Dead games were delisted for a time. Skybound Entertainment later took over and re-listed them, and the season is also included in the Telltale Definitive Series compilation. The Steam page now lists Skybound Games as publisher.

Quick Start

  • Play Season One and 400 Days first if you can. Season Two reads your earlier save and reflects some of those choices.
  • You play Clementine. She is older now, and much of the season is about what kind of person she becomes.
  • Dialogue is timed. Pick quickly or stay silent; silence is a real choice.
  • "Clementine will remember that" appears when a line or action matters. Most choices change how characters treat you and small scenes; a few big ones shape later episodes and the ending.
  • Quick-time events decide survival in action scenes. Failing usually means a retry, not a different branch.
  • There are no missable achievements. All 40 Steam achievements unlock by progressing through the story.
  • Don't reload to "fix" choices on your first run. The season is built around living with them.
  • Five episodes, roughly two hours each.

Who's Who (Light Spoilers)

Character | Who they are

Clementine | The player character, orphaned and surviving on her own

Luke | Survivalist in the cabin group who befriends Clem early

Pete | Hunter, Nick's uncle

Nick | Pete's nephew; hot-headed but not a bad person

Carlos | Doctor, fiercely protective of his daughter

Sarah | Carlos's sheltered teenage daughter

Rebecca and Alvin | Married couple; Rebecca is pregnant

Kenny | Clem's friend from Season One

Sarita and Walter | Kenny's partner, and a kind survivor met on a bridge

Jane | A lone-wolf survivor who joins later

Mike and Bonnie | Later travelling companions; Bonnie first appeared in 400 Days

Arvo | A Russian teenager whose group the survivors run into late in the season

William Carver | The season's antagonist, running a community at a hardware store

How these people treat Clem, and who survives, is where most of your choices land. Nobody is safe, so do not get attached to plans that depend on one character being around.

How Save Import Works

  • At the start of a new Season Two game you can pick up from an existing Season One save (and include 400 Days).
  • If you have no save, the game uses a default or randomised history.
  • Season One and 400 Days decisions mostly affect references and a few scenes; the big branching in this season comes from your Season Two choices.
  • Your Season Two save can in turn carry into later seasons.

Import tips: keep Season One installed on the same account and launch it once to make sure cloud saves sync before starting Season Two. If the game does not see your save, check that you are signed into the same platform account and that Steam Cloud has finished syncing.

Controls and Systems

Action | What it does

Move and look | Walk Clementine around explorable areas

Interact | Examine, use and pick up objects; talk to people

Dialogue wheel | Choose one of up to four responses, or wait for silence

QTE prompts | Mash, press or aim during action sequences

Inventory | Use carried items in the world when prompted

Episode Walkthrough Outline (Spoilers)

Achievement names in brackets unlock automatically at these story beats.

Episode 1: All That Remains

  • Clementine is travelling with Omid and Christa. A tragedy splits the group, and Clem ends up alone.
  • Survive on your own in the woods ("Shelter", "Sneaky"), including a harrowing scene where Clem must treat her own wound ("Still. Not. Bitten.").
  • Meet a new group at a cabin ("On the Path", "Now What?"). They are suspicious that Clem is bitten.
  • Key choice: at the end, choose whether to help Pete or Nick. This affects who you travel with in Episode 2.
  • Completion unlocks "Split Decision".

Episode 2: A House Divided

  • Travel with the cabin group; a stranger on a bridge becomes important ("Over the Bridge", "A Stranger").
  • Reach a ski lodge and an unexpected reunion with a familiar face from Season One ("Old Friends").
  • Key choices: how you treat the people at the lodge, and a tense night conversation ("Past Midnight").
  • The episode ends with the threat of William Carver, the season's main antagonist ("Reunion").

Episode 3: In Harm's Way

  • The group is taken to Carver's compound ("Fresh Fish") and forced to work.
  • Clem helps plan an escape, including stealing something the group needs ("Always the Quiet Ones": committed larceny) and letting walkers into the compound as a diversion ("Come Hither").
  • Key choices: how Clem responds to Carver, and what she does during the escape through a walker herd.
  • Completion unlocks "Eye of the Storm".

Episode 4: Amid the Ruins

  • The survivors are scattered after the escape ("Best Laid Plans") and regroup at a museum and an observation deck ("History Lesson", "Making an Observation").
  • Key choices: whether to help a struggling group member during an attack, and a hard decision about an injured friend. Rebecca's pregnancy becomes central.
  • Completion unlocks "Beyond the Trees".

Episode 5: No Going Back

  • A confrontation with a new group ("Blood and Iron"), then a long, cold journey ("Miles To Go", "Right of Frost").
  • Key choices: a crisis on a frozen lake, and a final confrontation between Kenny and Jane where Clem decides what happens.
  • Completion unlocks "All The Dead Lie Down".

Endings (Spoilers)

The finale's outcome depends on who survives the Kenny and Jane confrontation and what Clem chooses afterward. Per Wikipedia, you can end up:

  • With Kenny, either entering the Wellington community or staying with him.
  • With Jane, after returning to shelter; you decide whether to let a family in.
  • Alone with baby AJ, walking away from both.

Players commonly count five distinct endings. Your ending carries into later seasons, which pick up with Clementine and AJ.

Key Choices Cheat Sheet

Episode | Big decisions

1 | Help Pete or Nick

2 | Relationships with the cabin group and the reunion at the lodge; the night-time talk

3 | Standing up to Carver; decisions during the escape

4 | Helping a panicked group member; a choice about an injured friend

5 | The frozen lake; Kenny versus Jane; who (if anyone) Clem goes with

Achievement Tips

  • 40 achievements, all story progression. Finishing all five episodes unlocks everything.
  • If an achievement did not trigger, replay the episode section from the main menu's episode select; they are tied to reaching specific scenes.
  • Global percentages drop from around 87% for the first achievement to around 65% for the finale, so most players who start do finish.

Playing It Today

  • Old engine quirks: the Telltale Tool can stutter or stall at scene transitions on modern PCs. Let loading finish before pressing buttons, and cap the frame rate if you see odd timing issues.
  • Controller works well and suits the QTEs.
  • Definitive Series: if you want all Telltale Walking Dead seasons in one place with updated visuals, the Telltale Definitive Series is the modern way to buy them; this standalone Season Two remains playable on its own.
  • Save location matters for imports: keep all seasons on the same store/account.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Starting without importing a Season One save when you have one; you lose small callbacks.
  • Reloading after every bad outcome. Many outcomes converge anyway, and it flattens the experience.
  • Assuming silence is neutral. Characters notice when Clem says nothing.
  • Mashing through dialogue. You can skip lines and accidentally pick an option.
  • Expecting gameplay puzzles. This is a story game; the challenge is moral, not mechanical.

Advanced Tips

  • Play Clementine consistently. The finale lands harder if her personality has been coherent across episodes.
  • Watch the end-of-episode stats to see how your choices compare with other players'.
  • Second run: replay individual episodes to see the alternate branches without starting over.
  • Play 400 Days before this season, then move on to Season Three (A New Frontier). Season Two brings 400 Days characters such as Bonnie back into the story, and your Season Two ending carries forward.

FAQ

Do I need to play Season One first? Not strictly, but it is strongly recommended. Clementine's history with Lee and a returning character hit much harder if you played it.

How many endings does Season Two have? Several; players usually count five, based on whether Clem ends up with Kenny (in or out of Wellington), with Jane (with two variations), or alone with AJ.

Are there missable achievements? No. All achievements are story progression.

Can I import my Season One save on PC? Yes, if both games are on the same account and cloud saves have synced.

How long is Season Two? Around 8 to 10 hours across five episodes.

Was the game removed from Steam? It was delisted after Telltale's 2018 closure and later re-listed by Skybound.
