A roadmap through Realm Grinder's layers: early abdications and gems, choosing factions, spells and autocast, Reincarnation and research, excavations, Ascension and lineages, events, and how to spend rubies.

Researched September 2026 — current as of version 4.3.9 (February 3, 2026), the latest Steam patch notes; version 4.3.0 (March 2025) was the last major overhaul. Live games change; check the linked sources if something differs.

How the Layers Fit Together

Realm Grinder is an idle/incremental RPG with several nested reset layers. Each one wipes some progress in exchange for a permanent boost:

Layer | What resets | What you keep/gain

Abdication | Coins, buildings, upgrades, faction | Gems (big production multiplier), trophies

Reincarnation (R) | Gems and most of the above | Reincarnation count, R-powers, new unlocks (factions, research, challenges)

Ascension (A1 to A4) | Reincarnations and more | New rules, lineages/bloodlines, new content; Ascension 5 is in development

Excavations, research, artifacts, challenges and the Royal Exchange layer in as you reincarnate further. The early game is about learning the loop; the midgame is about unlocking systems; the late game is optimization.

Quick Start

  • Buy the first buildings, then pick an alignment (Good, Evil or Neutral later) and a faction once the choice appears.
  • Abdicate early and often at first. Your first abdications should be quick; gems multiply your next run.
  • Cast spells. Tax Collection and Call to Arms are there from the start, your alignment adds its own spell, and each faction brings another. Cast them whenever mana allows.
  • Turn on autocast when available so spells keep running while idle (4.3.0 added more autocast button modes).
  • Click when it's worth it. Some factions (like Elves) reward tapping; others are fine idle.
  • Collect faction coins (found by clicking and later by other triggers). Royal Exchanges become available after you've collected 20 faction coins, and they also feed faction upgrades.
  • Chase trophies. Many upgrades scale with trophies (achievements), so they're not just cosmetic.
  • Use a planner/community guide for Reincarnation routes. The official wiki and community spreadsheets list the best faction per stage.
  • Claim the Gift of the Myths if you're new. Added in 4.3.7, it's aimed at new players and increases production and mana regen.
  • Check event dates. Limited-time events (Valentine, Easter, Blood War, Goblin Invasion, Summer Festival, Christmas) give extra rewards.

Buildings and Alignments

  • The first tiers (Farm, Inn and so on) are shared. Higher tiers depend on your alignment: Good buildings culminate in Heaven's Gate, Evil's tenth tier is the Hell Portal.
  • Buy in bulk. The Buy Quantity setting and the Buy All Buildings button (4.3.0) buy every tier at once; all BuyAll buttons unlock at 1,000 Gems (4.3.1).
  • Building upgrade series stop existing from Ascension 3, so higher Ascensions rely on other bonuses.

Base Factions

Alignment | Factions | Rough identity

Good | Fairy, Elf, Angel | Fairy boosts low-tier buildings; Elves reward tapping for treasure; Angels are mana and spell focused

Evil | Goblin, Undead, Demon | Goblins lean on treasure and gold; Undead are time-based and idle-friendly; Demons give massive bonuses to the most powerful buildings

Neutral | Titan, Dwarf, Drow | Unlocked through reincarnation; more complex synergies

Later, Prestige factions (such as Mercenary, Dragon, Archon, Djinn, Makers, Druid and Faceless) unlock through reincarnation milestones, research and challenges. Each has its own mechanics and challenges; patch notes regularly tune them (for example Dragon upgrades and Dragon Challenge requirements were increased in 4.3.9).

Which to pick?

  • Idle or offline play: Undead or Fairy-style builds are forgiving.
  • Active play with spells: Angel/Goblin style runs, with lots of spell casting.
  • Clicking: Elves (and later clicking-oriented factions).
  • In each Reincarnation range, community guides list the "best" faction; follow them once you're past the first few R.

Spells, Mana and Autocast

  • Spells cost mana and have durations. Mana regen and max mana grow with upgrades and certain artifacts.
  • Shared spells: Tax Collection (instant coins) and Call to Arms (production boost). Alignment spells come on top (for example Blood Frenzy on the Evil side), and Combo Strike is another common spell that some later upgrades count.
  • Each faction adds its own spell, such as the Angels' God's Hand and the Demons' Hellfire Blast; read the tooltip to see whether yours is a burst or a duration buff.
  • Spell tier upgrades need accumulated activity time; the 4.3.1 notes clarified that time can accumulate across a Reincarnation.
  • Autocast presets let you set which spells cast automatically; this is how you keep production high while idle.

Abdication and Gems

  • Abdicating converts your total coins this run into gems. Gems give a production bonus that compounds across runs.
  • Early rule of thumb: abdicate when your gem gain would noticeably boost your next run (for example, doubling or more your current gems early on). Later, community guides give specific targets per stage.
  • Trophies and faction coins you earn aren't lost when abdicating.

Reincarnation (R)

  • Each Reincarnation requires reaching a coin threshold and resets gems. It gives R-powers and unlocks new content at set R numbers (e.g., A0 Neutral Research at R24 and A0 Prestige Research at R32, as of 4.3.9).
  • R-powers scale with your reincarnation count; several were buffed or fixed in the 4.3.x patches (R58, R70, R107, R115, R120, R220).
  • Expect each Reincarnation to take longer. Planning faction choices per run is what speeds you up.

Research

  • Research is split into several branches, referred to in patch notes by letter-plus-number codes (like S590, C5375, E410 or W11625). Which branches you can use depends on your alignment and faction.
  • The 4.3.3 update added a template window for researches and Mercenaries: you can add or edit template strings directly, making it easy to paste community builds.
  • Research requirements were rebalanced in 4.3.9; old research guides may reference outdated unlock points.

Excavation and Artifacts

  • Excavations dig for artifacts, which give permanent effects. Each artifact has conditions (a faction, spell count, reincarnation minimum, etc.).
  • Some artifacts need huge excavation counts, such as the Beard Hair artifact requiring 2,000 excavations (4.3.2).
  • 4.3.9 fixed spoiler conditions for most artifacts, so in-game hints are now more reliable.

Challenges, Trophies and Unique Buildings

  • Challenges are special runs with restrictions and big rewards; faction-specific challenge lines (Dragon, Makers, Archon, Djinn and more) unlock prestige content.
  • Trophies (achievements) power many upgrades. A few are secret; 4.3.0 added a new secret trophy and an upgrade for unlocking The Architect trophy.
  • Unique buildings unlock via quests; since 4.3.9 the quests for second Unique Buildings can be completed with base plus prestige faction combinations.

Ascension and Lineages

  • Ascension is the big layer after many reincarnations. Each Ascension (A1 to A4) changes rules and adds content; the developers said after 4.3.0 that they're working on Ascension 5.
  • Lineages (bloodlines) give perks. 4.3.0 added Lineage Perk 6 in Ascension 3; 4.3.7 swapped several Lineage Perk 1s and 2s.
  • Astral factions were reintroduced in Ascension 4 (4.3.0).
  • Some upgrade series are removed in higher Ascensions (building upgrades from A3; assistants, alignment, wall fragment, gem potency series and Sun Force from A4). Plan around that.

Events and Gifts

Event | 2025–26 timing (UTC)

Easter Event | Apr 17 to Apr 24, 2025

Blood War Event | May 16 to May 20, 2025

Goblin Invasion Event | Jul 7 to Jul 11, 2025

Summer Festival Event | Aug 21 to Aug 28, 2025

Valentine Event | Feb 12 to Feb 17, 2026

Dates move each year; the patch notes announce each one as a "Global Reminder."

Gifts (4.3.7):

  • Gift of the Myths — aimed at new players; increases production and mana regen.
  • Gift of the Faithful — a monthly gift providing all Scry bonuses at once, daily Rubies and bonuses that grow as you keep logging in.

Rubies (Premium Currency): What to Spend On

  • Rubies can be earned in-game (daily gifts, events, certain achievements) or bought.
  • High-value purchases are usually permanent quality-of-life and permanent production boosts rather than one-off time skips.
  • Don't spend rubies on temporary boosts early; your production is small, so boosts are worth little until later.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Waiting too long to abdicate in early runs. Frequent small abdications grow gems faster at first.
  • Following outdated guides. Research requirements, R-unlocks and faction balance changed several times in 4.3.x.
  • Neglecting trophies. Many upgrades are trophy-scaled.
  • Not using autocast, leaving spells off while idle.
  • Choosing a faction for fun every run after R10+. Route planning matters more as the layers stack.
  • Buying buildings one tier at a time manually once Buy All is available.

Advanced Tips

  • Use templates. Paste community research and Mercenary templates via the 4.3.3 template windows.
  • Offline vs. online: some bonuses (for example DG2 in 4.3.7) now scale with offline production. Build differently for overnight runs vs. active sessions.
  • Faction coin find chance is boosted by some mechanics (Share Benefits now also scales off Triggered Tax Collections since 4.3.4). Tax Collection spam can feed it.
  • Mobile users: 4.3.7 added a tap-to-see-tooltip option with a separate buy button; toggle it off in Options if you prefer the old tap-to-buy.
  • Check tooltips after patches. Many 4.3.x fixes made tooltips match the actual formulas.

FAQ

Is Realm Grinder still updated? Yes. The last Steam patch notes are 4.3.9 (February 2026), and the developers are working toward Ascension 5.

Is it free? Yes, free-to-play with optional rubies.

What faction should I pick first? Early on, pick whichever fits how often you play: idle-friendly factions if you're mostly away, spell/click factions if you're active. Community guides give per-stage recommendations.

When do I unlock research? It unlocks after several reincarnations; as of 4.3.9 the A0 Neutral Research unlocks at R24 and A0 Prestige Research at R32.

Does it sync between Steam and mobile? Check the in-game options for account/cloud save linking before assuming it does; if you play on several devices, export a save backup first.

What's the fastest way to progress? Frequent early abdications, trophies, autocast, and following an up-to-date reincarnation route.
