This covers the whole game: how combat actually works, what to spend Lunacy and Enkephalin on, how to build status-effect teams, and how to farm Mirror Dungeon efficiently in the current season.

Researched September 2026 — current as of Season 8: PUNCTUM (started September 17, 2026) and Canto X: The Gaze Bearing. Live games change; check the linked sources if something differs.

Quick Start

  • Never let Enkephalin cap. Enkephalin is your stamina. Convert it into Enkephalin Modules before it overflows; modules are what Mirror Dungeon runs cost (5 per Normal run).
  • Do your weekly Mirror Dungeon Hard bonuses. Using all 3 weekly bonus charges in Hard Mode pays 750 free Lunacy, 225 Limbus Pass XP and 360 Manager XP. This is the single biggest free Lunacy source every week.
  • Clear the story (Cantos) first. Story completion unlocks Luxcavation, Mirror Dungeon Hard (needs Canto VIII), Refraction Railway and more. Canto X is the exception: it only requires Canto I, but clearing it early does not unlock anything gated behind the earlier Cantos.
  • Build around one status keyword. Teams that stack Bleed, Burn, Rupture, Sinking, Tremor, Poise or Charge massively outperform random "best units" piles.
  • Save for banners you want. A 10-pull costs 1,300 Lunacy. Every pull gives 1 Ideality; 200 Ideality buys the featured 3-star Identity or E.G.O outright.
  • Egoshards are your second currency. Duplicates and pulls give Egoshards, which buy Identities/E.G.O from the Dispenser. Seasonal Identities leave the Dispenser when the season ends, so buy them while they are there.
  • Uptie before you level. An Uptie III-IV Identity at a slightly lower level usually beats a max-level Uptie II. Upties unlock passives and stronger skills.
  • Hover everything. Every skill, coin, status and passive has a tooltip. Limbus is a numbers game; reading enemy skills before you commit is how you win clashes.

The Basics: Sinners, Identities, E.G.O

You command 12 Sinners: Yi Sang, Faust, Don Quixote, Ryōshū, Meursault, Hong Lu, Heathcliff, Ishmael, Rodion, Sinclair, Outis and Gregor. Each Sinner equips:

  • An Identity — a version of the Sinner from another world. It sets their three attack skills (S1/S2/S3), defense skill, passives, damage types and Sin affinities. Identities come in 1-star, 2-star and 3-star rarities (shown in-game as 0, 00 and 000).
  • E.G.O — powerful skills fueled by Sin resources and Sanity. Grades from weakest to strongest: ZAYIN, TETH, HE, WAW, ALEPH. Every Sinner has a base ZAYIN E.G.O; higher grades come from Extraction, the Dispenser, and the Limbus Pass.

Upgrade | Resource | What it does

Level | Training tickets / EXP | Raises HP, damage and defense level

Uptie (I to IV) | Thread (+ Egoshards for higher tiers) | Unlocks passives, upgrades skills. Uptie IV is the big jump

E.G.O Threadspin | Thread | Improves E.G.O power

Manager Level | Manager XP | Caps Sinner levels and unlocks content

Combat: How Clashes Actually Work

Combat is turn-based and simultaneous. Each turn you drag skills onto enemy slots; the game then resolves in speed order.

Coins and Clashes

  • Every skill has a base power, a number of coins, and a coin power (positive or negative).
  • When two skills target each other they clash. Both sides flip all their remaining coins; heads add coin power. Higher total wins the round and the loser loses a coin. Repeat until one side has no coins left.
  • The winner then hits with their remaining coins. Winning a clash with 1 coin left means you only get 1 coin of damage, so skills with more coins are more reliable.
  • Clash win probability is shown when you hover a matchup. Green/"Favored" is what you want. Never send your only damage dealer into a "Struggling" clash.

Sanity (SP)

Sanity ranges from -45 to +45 and directly shifts your heads chance (roughly 50% plus your SP). Winning clashes and killing raises SP; losing clashes and allies dying lowers it. At -45 a Sinner Panics and loses control for a turn. Some Identities are built to run at low SP; most want it high.

Speed and Targeting

Each Sinner rolls speed every turn. Faster units act first and can redirect an enemy attack onto themselves to force a clash. Use this to protect weak allies: put your tank or evade user on the enemy's biggest skill.

Damage Types and Resistances

Every attack deals Slash, Pierce or Blunt, plus one of seven Sins: Wrath, Lust, Sloth, Gluttony, Gloom, Pride, Envy. Enemies have resistances to both:

Resistance | Meaning

Fatal | Takes much more damage

Weak | Takes more damage

Normal | Baseline

Endure | Takes less damage

Ineffective | Takes far less damage

Check the enemy resistance panel before every boss. Swapping a Sinner into a Fatal matchup often does more than a level-up.

Stagger

Enemies (and your Sinners) have Stagger thresholds on their HP bar. Crossing one staggers them: they lose their actions and take extra damage for a turn. Planning your damage to hit a threshold before the enemy's big turn is the core of boss fights.

Sin Resources and Resonance

Using a skill generates its Sin resource, which is spent on E.G.O. Chaining skills of the same Sin next to each other in the skill bar creates Resonance, boosting their power. Many teams deliberately slot same-Sin skills together to trigger this.

Defense Skills

Each Identity has a defense skill: Guard (reduces damage), Evade (dodge by clashing with coins) or Counter (hit back). Use defense on turns where you can't win a clash anyway.

Status Keywords: Team Archetypes

Most Identities feed one of these statuses. Pick one and fill the team with Identities that apply or benefit from it.

Keyword | How it works | Plays like

Bleed | Target takes fixed damage each time it tosses an attack Coin, then Count drops | Strong vs enemies with many coins

Burn | Damage at turn end, Count drops | Reliable passive damage

Rupture | Bonus damage when hit, Count drops per hit | Rewards multi-hit teams

Sinking | Each hit deals fixed SP damage (Gloom damage vs enemies without SP) | Great vs bosses with SP

Tremor | Build up, then "Tremor Burst" pushes the target's Stagger Threshold up toward its current HP | Staggers bosses quickly

Poise | Raises your crit chance for the next few hits (crits deal 1.2x damage) | Self-buffing damage dealers

Charge | A resource you spend on powerful skill effects | Fast, burst-heavy turns

Well-known faction lines that play a keyword include Blade Lineage (Poise), W Corp. (Charge), Seven Association (Rupture), Liu Association (Burn) and Kurokumo Clan (Bleed). You don't need all 000s: 00 Identities in the right keyword team clear most content.

Rule of thumb: 6 Sinners in a single keyword, plus a mix of Slash/Pierce/Blunt so you're never locked out by a resistance.

Currencies and What to Spend Them On

Currency | Source | Best use

Lunacy (free) | Mirror Dungeon weekly bonus, Pass, events, missions | 10-pulls on banners you want

Lunacy (paid) | Purchase | Daily discounted single pull (13 paid Lunacy), then pulls

Enkephalin | Regenerates over time | Convert to Modules; spend on Luxcavation/Mirror Dungeon

Enkephalin Modules | Converted from Enkephalin | Mirror Dungeon runs

Thread | Luxcavation, MD, duplicates | Upties and E.G.O Threadspin

Egoshards | Pulls, duplicates, MD | Dispenser purchases, Uptie IV

Ideality | 1 per Extraction | 200 = featured 3-star/E.G.O/Announcer

Starlight | Mirror Dungeon runs | Permanent-per-run MD buffs (Starlight Guidance)

Extraction (Gacha) Numbers

Per the wiki's current rate table:

  • 3-star Identity: 2.9% per pull
  • 2-star Identity: 12.8%
  • E.G.O: 1.3%
  • The 10th pull of a 10-pull guarantees at least a 2-star.
  • Unused Ideality converts to Thread when the banner ends, so partial progress is never fully wasted.

Spending priority for F2P: Limbus Pass (paid version is widely considered the best value purchase if you spend at all) → banners with Identities that complete your main keyword team → Walpurgis Night banners (limited, returning rarely). Avoid spreading pulls across every banner.

Seasons and the Dispenser

When a Season ends, its Identities and E.G.O leave the Dispenser and can only be pulled from Extraction until the Season after the next. Seasonal event collectibles disappear from both the Dispenser and Extraction for the entire new season. Leftover Egoshards are halved at season change (half becomes Thread, half carries over), so don't hoard them unnecessarily.

Season 8: PUNCTUM (Current)

Season 8 began September 17, 2026 and focuses on Meursault.

  • Canto X: The Gaze Bearing — Meursault's chapter, built on Camus's The Stranger. It releases in three parts: Part 1 on September 17, with Parts 2 and 3 in the following two weeks. It was delayed from August 27 so it could ship fully voiced.
  • Early access rule: Canto X only requires Canto I. If you play it early, your Identities are set to level 65 and Uptie III for it, and Meursault gets support characters. Completing it this way won't unlock content gated behind Cantos II to IX.
  • New gameplay: an RPG Maker-style top-down dungeon crawling section starring Meursault, Dante and rotating Sinners.
  • New seasonal Identities (000): Haute Couture::Le Noir Footwear Hall Ryōshū, Haute Couture::Boutique du Rouge Ishmael, Haute Couture::Alteration Shop Rodion, Haute Couture::Le Noir Brand Manager Don Quixote.
  • Limbus Pass E.G.O: Repudiation (Hong Lu, free track level 30), Mirror-touch (Rodion, paid level 40), and Hollow E.G.O for Faust (free level 80) and Meursault (paid level 120).
  • 8th Mirror Dungeon is part of this season. The previous MD, Mirror of Names and Spiders (from February 19, 2026), was the live version going into the season; check the in-game MD screen to confirm which is currently running.

Mirror Dungeon: The Core Loop

Mirror Dungeon (MD) is the roguelike mode and your main weekly farm.

  • Normal Mode: Sinners fixed at level 60; costs 5 Modules.
  • Hard Mode: requires Canto VIII and a Normal clear. Costs 6 Modules per weekly bonus used, 5 if none. Much better rewards.
  • Infinity Mirror (Parallel Superposition): unlocked after clearing all 5 floors in Hard. Floors 6-10 add harder trials and exclusive theme packs; floors 11-15 (EXTREME) add long fights with severe Adversity restrictions.

How a Run Works

  • Pick a starting E.G.O Gift (10 Tier II options, one per Sin affinity or damage type). Match it to your team's keyword.
  • Each floor, choose a Theme Pack, which decides enemy pools and the floor boss.
  • Move through nodes: fights, events, shops and rest stops. Fights award Cost (shop money, roughly 75-150+ depending on difficulty).
  • Fuse and buy gifts that match your keyword. Gift synergy is what carries Hard runs.
  • Spend Starlight between runs on Starlight Guidance buffs (starting gifts, extra Cost, stat boosts). A typical run gives about 60 base Starlight plus floor bonuses.

MD Tips

  • Bring a 12-Sinner roster where the backups also fit your keyword; you can swap between fights.
  • Buy gifts for one keyword. Five on-theme gifts beat ten random ones.
  • Rest nodes heal and let you upgrade/fuse; don't skip them before a boss floor.
  • Use weekly bonuses on Hard even if runs take longer; the Lunacy is worth it.

Other Modes

Mode | Purpose

Luxcavation (EXP / Thread) | Farm Training tickets and Thread with Enkephalin

Refraction Railway | Long, brutal endgame gauntlets with restrictions (multiple Lines). Earns rare rewards; do these once your roster is deep

Events | Story side chapters with limited shops. Clear the shop before the event ends

Walpurgis Night | Anniversary-style limited events with limited banners that rarely return

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Letting Enkephalin cap overnight. Convert to Modules first.
  • Leveling everyone. Focus one keyword team of 6 plus a few swaps. Thread is scarce early.
  • Sending units into "Struggling" clashes. If you can't win, use defense skills or target a different enemy.
  • Ignoring resistances. A Fatal-resist matchup often doubles your effective damage.
  • Pulling on every banner. 200 Ideality guarantees a featured unit; spreading pulls leaves you short on every banner.
  • Forgetting the weekly MD Hard bonus. That's 750 free Lunacy you don't get back.
  • Buying off-theme gifts in MD. Stick to your team's keyword.

Advanced Tips

  • Clash math: A skill with 3 coins at +3 coin power beats a 1-coin +10 skill more often than it looks, because it survives losing a round. Hover to compare.
  • Manipulate speed: Haste statuses and speed-based passives let you redirect enemy attacks. Use a fast tank to absorb the enemy's highest-coin skill.
  • Hold E.G.O for Stagger turns. E.G.O on a staggered boss hits much harder; spending Sin resources early just to clear trash is wasteful.
  • Plan Resonance. Some Identities want Absolute Resonance (many same-Sin skills chained). Build your skill order around it rather than random drag-and-drop.
  • Corrosion risk: E.G.O use pushes a Sinner toward Corrosion at low SP, where they become a berserk version that can attack allies. Keep SP high before using powerful E.G.O.
  • Use Normal MD for Starlight early. It's faster and builds Starlight Guidance so your Hard runs start stronger.
  • Recheck teams each season. New Identities regularly push an older keyword to the top.

FAQ

Can I play Canto X without finishing the earlier story? Yes. Canto X only requires Canto I. Your Identities are set to level 65 and Uptie III for it, but clearing it early won't unlock content gated behind earlier Cantos.

How much is a 10-pull and what's the pity? 1,300 Lunacy (or 10 Extraction Tickets / 1 Decaextraction Ticket). Each pull grants 1 Ideality; 200 Ideality exchanges for the featured 3-star Identity, E.G.O or Announcer.

What's the best free Lunacy source? Mirror Dungeon Hard weekly bonuses: 750 Lunacy per week if you use all three charges, plus the Limbus Pass free track and events.

Do I need 000 Identities to clear content? No. Keyword synergy matters more than rarity. Many 00 Identities are core pieces of top teams.

What happens to the season's Identities after it ends? They leave the Dispenser and are only obtainable via Extraction until the Season after the next. Buy them with Egoshards while they are in the Dispenser.

How do I unlock Mirror Dungeon Hard? Clear Canto VIII and beat Normal Mode Mirror Dungeon.

Is the Limbus Pass worth buying? If you spend anything, the paid Pass is generally the best value: it includes paid-track E.G.O (this season: Mirror-touch Rodion and Hollow Meursault) and a lot of upgrade materials.
