A guide to HITMAN 2's missions: where the game lives now, how to get Silent Assassin ratings, a walkthrough of every location and its targets, mastery and unlock priorities, and what changed when it was folded into HITMAN World of Assassination.
Researched September 2026 — current as of HITMAN World of Assassination's Season of the Herbalist (patch 3.280, August 26, 2026). Live games change; check the linked sources if something differs.
Status: HITMAN 2 (2018) was removed from sale in January 2023 when IO Interactive rebranded HITMAN 3 as HITMAN World of Assassination (WoA) and folded the whole trilogy into one game. Its locations now live inside WoA: the base package includes the HITMAN 2 locations, and the Deluxe tier adds the New York and Haven Island expansion levels. Standalone HITMAN 2 still runs for existing owners. However, IOI shut down its Ghost Mode and online Sniper Assassin servers on August 31, 2021. Offline Sniper Assassin is still playable. New content (Elusive Targets, seasons, Freelancer, cross-progression) only comes to WoA, so that's where you should play these missions.
Quick Start
- Play in WoA if you can. It has the latest engine, the lighting and mirror improvements, Freelancer mode, the Elusive Target Arcade, and it's still updated.
- Do each mission's Mission Stories first. They're guided routes that teach you the level and set up great kills. Toggle their guidance in the options if you want less help.
- Instinct mode is your radar. It shows targets, guards and enforcers (people who can see through your disguise), and items you can interact with.
- Enforcers can see through disguises. A white dot above a character in Instinct means they can recognise your current outfit. Keep your distance or change disguise.
- Silent Assassin = no witnesses, no bodies found, no non-target kills, no recordings. Destroy or wipe the security footage.
- Coins are your best tool. Throw one to lure a guard around a corner, then subdue them.
- Hide bodies straight away in containers or closets. Unconscious or dead bodies that get found spoil your rating and trigger searches.
- Replay to raise Location Mastery. It unlocks starting locations, agency pickups, disguises, and new items for every map.
- Use crowds and foliage. HITMAN 2 added blending into crowds and hiding in tall grass or bushes. Both make you effectively invisible to searches.
Core Systems
System | What it does | Key tip
Disguises | Take clothes from subdued NPCs to reach restricted areas | Each disguise has its own enforcers. Check with Instinct
Suspicion and trespassing | The on-screen indicator warns when you're noticed | Walk away calmly. Running and crouching in public raise suspicion
Instinct | Highlights targets, guards, items, and NPC routes | Use it to plan routes and watch where the target walks
Opportunities / Mission Stories | Scripted setups for elaborate kills | You can turn tracking on or off. Completing them helps with mastery
Accidents | Kills that look like accidents (falling objects, electrocution, poison, pushes) | These rarely cause alarms and count as clean kills
Briefcase | New in HITMAN 2: carry a sniper rifle through security unseen | Stash it, collect the pieces later, and hide in plain sight
Picture-in-picture | Shows off-screen events (bodies found, target reactions) | Good for timing
Challenges and Mastery | Level XP unlocks gear and starts | Aim for "Signature Kill" challenges and specific kill methods
Mission Walkthrough Outline
Prologue: Nightcall (Hawke's Bay, New Zealand)
- Target: Alma Reynard.
- A small night-time tutorial on a beach house. Learn how to get in, deal with the security system, and choose between a quiet poison kill and a well-timed push.
- Tip: It's short and full of challenges, so it's the fastest place to practise getting Silent Assassin, Suit Only.
The Finish Line (Miami, USA)
- Targets: Robert Knox and Sierra Knox, at the Global Innovation Race.
- Robert Knox is often near the Kronstadt Industries exhibition. Opportunities let you get close to him during his presentation.
- Sierra Knox is racing. Mission stories include sabotaging her car or getting close to the pits.
- Tips: The Flamingo mascot disguise is a fan favourite. The crowds near the stage and track are useful cover. Watch out for the Kronstadt engineers and the security near the pits.
Three-Headed Serpent (Santa Fortuna, Colombia)
- Targets: Rico Delgado, Jorge Franco, and Andrea Martínez.
- Three targets spread across the village, the coca fields and the Delgado mansion. Plan the order.
- Tips: The mission stories (including the tattoo-artist setup that gets you alone with Rico Delgado) get you close to each target. Large parts of the map are jungle, where hiding in foliage keeps you safe.
Chasing a Ghost (Mumbai, India)
- Targets: Wazir Kale ("The Maelstrom"), Vanya Shah, and Dawood Rangan.
- The biggest and busiest HITMAN 2 map: slums, train yards, a film set and a laundry.
- Tips: The Maelstrom's identity is hidden. Follow his mission story to find out who he is, then track him with Instinct. Vanya Shah and Dawood Rangan each have their own mission stories that place you near them. Crowds everywhere make blending easy.
Another Life (Whittleton Creek, Vermont, USA)
- Targets: Janus and Nolan Cassidy.
- A quiet suburban street. Security is light, but the neighbours are nosy.
- Tips: Janus's house and the Cassidy residence are on the same street, so you can work both in one run. The mission stories show you which disguises get you inside each house. It's a good map for learning clean accident kills.
The Ark Society (Isle of Sgàil, North Atlantic)
- Targets: The Constant (extract him, don't kill him), plus Zoe and Sophia Washington.
- A castle full of Ark Society members wearing masks. Masked guests make blending easier. Staff and security are the enforcers you need to watch.
- Tips: Taking the Constant out alive is the objective, so plan to subdue him and get him out. Several stories revolve around the ceremony and the Architects.
Expansion: Golden Handshake (New York, USA) and The Last Resort (Haven Island, Maldives)
- Golden Handshake: Target Athena Savalas at the Milton-Fitzpatrick bank. You also have a heist-style side objective: steal the data from the vault or the server room. Heavy security, lots of cameras.
- The Last Resort: Targets Tyson Williams, Steven Bradley and Ljudmila Vetrova on a private island resort. Three targets and three different security set-ups.
- In WoA these two maps need the Deluxe tier (the HITMAN 2 Expansion Access). Standalone HITMAN 2 owners got them with the Gold Edition or Expansion Pass.
Getting Silent Assassin Every Time
Silent Assassin needs:
- Only targets killed. Knocking out other people is allowed.
- No bodies found, including unconscious ones.
- Not spotted and no witnesses to crimes.
- No security recordings. Destroy the camera recorder or wipe the footage, or never get caught on camera.
Suit Only means you never change disguise. Silent Assassin, Suit Only (SASO) is the classic challenge. Start practising it on Nightcall and Whittleton Creek.
Tools that make SA easier:
- Coins to lure one guard at a time.
- Emetic rat poison to send targets to a private bathroom.
- Lethal poison in drinks or food. It isn't an accident kill, but it keeps SA as long as nobody sees you poison it and the body isn't found.
- Remote explosives and accident setups (falling objects, fuse boxes, water and electricity).
- Fiber wire for close, quiet kills. Hide the body right away.
Mastery and Unlock Priorities
- Unlock starting locations first. Better starting points shorten every replay.
- Agency pickups let you place items (keys, poison, rifles) on the map before the mission.
- Suit and item unlocks come from challenges. Many of the best tools, such as advanced lockpicks, remote explosives and sniper rifles, come from mastery ranks.
- Escalations are multi-stage challenges that get harder each stage. Good for unlocking gear and learning the maps.
- In WoA, progression is shared across all trilogy locations, and cross-progression now lets it carry across platforms.
HITMAN World of Assassination Extras (Where the Action Is in 2026)
- Seasons: WoA runs seasonal content drops. As of September 2026 the current one is Season of the Herbalist (August 26, 2026, patch 3.280). Earlier 2026 seasons include Season of Patient Zero Requiem (February 25, patch 3.260.1) and Season of The Wizard (June 5, patch 3.270.0).
- Elusive Targets: Limited-time targets you get one attempt at. Missed ones cycle into the Elusive Target Arcade, a permanent mode with escalating difficulty.
- Freelancer: A roguelike mode (launched January 2023) where you run a hideout, earn Merces, and take contracts without agency support.
- Guest missions: Recent seasons have added celebrity-themed missions. Check IOI's site for what's current.
- Free Starter Pack: IOI's free WoA demo lets you try the game before you buy.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Leaving bodies in the open. Even an unconscious guard spoils SA once they're found.
- Ignoring enforcers. A white dot in Instinct means that person can see through your disguise.
- Forgetting the cameras. Destroy the recorder or wipe the footage before you leave.
- Running in public. It raises suspicion quickly. Walk.
- Skipping Mission Stories. They're the fastest way to learn a map.
- Buying standalone HITMAN 2 content. It's delisted. Buy WoA and the right Access Pass/Deluxe tier instead.
Advanced Tips
- Accidents are king. Accident kills rarely raise an alarm, and they're usually the cleanest route to SA.
- Chain distractions. Throw a coin, subdue the guard who comes to look, hide the body, then repeat.
- Use the briefcase. It lets you take a sniper rifle through security frisks. Combine it with a long sightline for a quiet kill from range.
- Learn the routes. Targets walk fixed loops. Use Instinct to learn them, then set up an ambush at a quiet point on the route.
- Contracts Mode: Try community-made contracts, or make your own by marking targets during a run.
FAQ
Can I still buy HITMAN 2? No. It was removed from sale in January 2023. Its levels are part of HITMAN World of Assassination: the base package includes the HITMAN 2 locations, and the Deluxe tier adds New York and Haven Island.
Does my standalone HITMAN 2 still work? Yes, for owners. Ghost Mode and online Sniper Assassin were shut down on August 31, 2021. Offline Sniper Assassin still works.
What is Silent Assassin? A rating for a mission where you kill only your targets, you're never spotted, no bodies are found, and no recordings are left behind.
How do I get the New York and Haven Island levels in WoA? Get the Deluxe tier, which includes the HITMAN 2 Expansion Access Pass. If you owned them before, check IOI support for carryover options on your platform.
What's the Maelstrom? Wazir Kale's alias in Mumbai. The mission hides which NPC he is at first. Follow the story or use Instinct to find him.
What's the best disguise in Miami? The Flamingo mascot is a favourite and gets you close to the race stage. In the end the best disguise depends on which target you're going for.
