Grass has the strongest DPS of the season in Irisalis and a crit-stacking melee team built around Thornblade, but no breaker either guide site fully trusts. Here is the build for every released Grass Aniimo and how to cover that gap.

Grass at a glance

Grass hits Water and Earth for 1.6× and is resisted by Fire, Grass and Light (0.625×). That's a narrow target list, so build Grass for Water and Earth content rather than as your all-rounder.

Water and Earth both resist four elements, so Grass is one of the few clean answers to them.

Fire Grass Light

All three hit Grass for 1.6×. Grass shrugs off Water, Grass and Earth (0.625×).

Ice, Lightning, Wind and Dark are neutral targets. Game8's own note on its Grass team: Grass is super effective against only two elements, so it's a specialist team.

Every Grass Aniimo, ranked

Ranked by Game8's overall tier (Oct 6), with GameWith's (Oct 14). Grass has the widest disagreement between the two of any element.

Aniimo | Role | Game8 | GameWith | Note

Irisalis | DPS | S | see note | Legendary, event-limited. GameWith ranks a "Prismana Irisalis" SS, but Game8 says no Prismana form exists.

Prismana Thornblade | DPS | A | not ranked | Grass + Water. GameWith's Grass team is built on it.

Hexxin | Regen | A | A | Grass + Dark, but its EP engine is built for Dark teams.

Thornblade | DPS | B | SS | The biggest Game8-vs-GameWith gap in the game.

Irisal | DPS | B | A | A in Game8's Grass ranking. The free Irisalis stand-in.

Melloblum | Support | B | S+ | A in Game8's Grass ranking. Crit support for Thornblade.

Tuckin | Break | B | not ranked | Tank breaker that gets better with HP investment.

Pomawk | Break | C | S+ | B among Game8's breakers. Timing-heavy.

Prismana Irisal and Prismana Melloblum have build pages but no Game8 tier. They play like their base forms and are covered in those cards. Bubbeep and Glameep (Grass + Water) come from closed-beta Whisperwake Isle data and aren't playable yet.

Grass DPS builds

Grass has three DPS lines, each with its own engine: clones (Irisalis), Sword Dance stacks and crits (Thornblade), and Turf (Irisal). Feed the engine and they hit hard. Ignore it and they're mediocre.

Irisalis

Irisalis Shadow summons an Iris clone for 30s after Iris Shot lands, and the ultimate Florae Descent leaves a second one. Every Whirling Blossom Rain or final basic hit makes all clones fire floral beams. Clone hits build Dance Power, and at 9 your next skill costs 50% less EP. Its trait also revives it once every 180s. More clones means more damage, so every build choice below adds clones or buffs them.

Thornblade

Skill, then basic, then skill, then basic. Its trait, Sword Dance, gives a stack for each skill cast (up to 4, for 15s), and each basic attack spends one for +180% damage. Thorny Impact adds +15% Crit Rate for 15s, and Thorny Rain can be cast 3 times in a row. It's a crit DPS, which is why it pairs with Melloblum's +70% Grass Crit Damage.

Prismana Thornblade (Grass + Water, Game8 A) runs the identical build. Catching one unlocks Aqua Defense for every Thornblade: a −20% damage-taken stance that counters, with a 12s Blockade if you time it on the hit. Game8 suggests it for Pathfinder challenges. It spawns at the Sea of Flowers' collapsed ruins during a Prismana Flow. A Thunderstorm Thornblade unlocks Lightning Impact (+15% Crit Rate on hit).

Irisal

A ranged DPS that needs Turf under its feet. Its trait, Disco Aniimo, gives +30% Damage Amp on Turf, and every skill hit adds Dance Power. At 24, the next skill is free. Focused Beam is long-range burst, and Floral Storm fires homing petals while you move. With Leafy laying Turf, it's a solid Irisalis stand-in you can catch today.

Prismana Irisal has the same build. It evolves from a Prismana Iris at Lv 18, after the Alpha Irisal.

Irisalis's item: its Game8 page says Floral Rainbow Feather, but Game8's older build list (Oct 2) and GameWith say Ferocious Fang. Use the Feather once you have it, since it's built for clones. Thornblade's skills: one Game8 paragraph names "Thorny Defense" as a best skill, while its build and the Prismana page use Thorny Rain + Thorny Impact. Basic attacks: Game8 lists the Iris line's and Irisalis's basic attack as Wind. That needs an in-game check.

Grass Break builds

Game8's verdict on its top Grass team is blunt: no dedicated Break unit. Both Grass breakers work, but each comes with a catch. Tuckin needs heavy HP investment, and Pomawk needs precise timing.

Tuckin

A tank that breaks with a crew. Its trait, Prank Master, raises BREAK damage with max HP and summons up to 3 Hummins. Game8 notes they only start arriving once Tuckin attacks, not just from swapping in. Draw Nourishment roots it for +20% BREAK efficiency and heals the Hummins. Off-Key Shock Wave teleports them onto the target. It peaks late, once HP is maxed.

Pomawk

A rhythm breaker. Wild Show charges a sound wave, and a well-timed release adds +30% BREAK damage. Rhythm Combo chains 3 times, and on-beat casts add an extra Volume stack. At 6 Volume its trait, Tuning, grants +20% Crit Rate for 15s, and crits raise break damage too. Game8 notes that Volume only builds on skills that actually hit.

His test showed Attack barely moves the shield on a Break unit, while Break and crit do. Put Potential into Break and Regen, and use the E (Energetic) and N (Nimble) personality letters if you can roll them. 11:17

Grass Support and Regen builds

Melloblum is the Grass-only crit amplifier. Hexxin is Grass by type but does its best work on Dark teams. Most Grass teams borrow their sustain from Leafy and Somniwing.

Melloblum

Pure crit support. Rose Garden gives allies in its circle +70% Grass Crit Damage for 30s. Thorny Blessing spawns damaging thorns whenever the team lands a Grass crit, and Healing Rose heals nearby allies after the target takes 3 crits. Its trait, Phantom Opening, cuts its EP costs by 3 per Rose Mark, earned from the team's basic attacks. It's great with Thornblade. Without a Grass crit DPS, Game8 says to use Somniwing or Gracewing instead.

Prismana Melloblum (Grass + Light) uses the same build. Catching one unlocks Sparkling Rose: a team cleanse plus a Light rose with +15% Crit Rate. Its Vein Abundance event in Rosetower Woods ended Oct 4, and Game8 says it returns Oct 19 to 25 with the other Season 1 Prismana.

Hexxin

Euphoric Sonic Blast pierces everything ahead and restores 10 EP on any team. Its trait, Prank, curses the next skill's targets every 18s, and Dark basic attacks on a cursed enemy refund EP. That's why every team on Game8's Hexxin page is Dark (Stellarys, Ignitis, Pawney). On Grass teams Game8 uses it as a Gracewing alternative for Irisal, where Black Hole Domain pulls enemies together.

Leafy (Water + Grass)

The real Grass battery: Vitality Blooms gives Grass-type teammates 2.4 EP/s, Lotus Bloom adds +15% Grass Boost, and its trait lays the Turf Irisal needs. Game8 ranks it S for Grass. Full build in the Water guide.

Somniwing (Wind + Grass)

Game8's default Regen for both Grass teams. It's a Legendary from 180 Elite Training objectives, and its ultimate pauses time during the break window.

Turbo / Gracewing

Turbo's Nimbi Burst gives typeless damage and break efficiency, and the Alpha is free. Gracewing is Game8's swap when you need heals or lack Somniwing.

Best Grass teams and rotations

Grass is Game8's #4 team overall. Pick ranged clones (Irisalis) or melee crits (Thornblade). Don't try to mix them: Melloblum's crit payoff is built for Thornblade, and Game8 never pairs it with Irisalis.

Irisalis / Leafy / Turbo / Somniwing

Two batteries because Irisalis is EP-hungry. With no breaker, expect slower breaks than other teams. Swap Somniwing for Gracewing, or bring Tuckin for a tank.

Thornblade / Melloblum / Tuckin or Pomawk / Leafy or Somniwing

GameWith's version: Prismana Thornblade, Melloblum, Rainstorm Turbo, Besauce. Contract Thornblade first.

Irisalis rotation

  • Leafy: Lotus Bloom for +15% Grass Boost, then Vitality Blooms for EP.
  • Turbo: Nimbi Burst, timed so the Shrouded in Mist version fires (up to +30%).
  • Irisalis: Irisalis Shadow to get the clone out (2 with the contract), then Whirling Blossom Rain so every clone beams. Add Florae Descent for a third.
  • At 9 Dance Power, your next skill costs half EP, so spend it on Blossom Rain.
  • Somniwing (Butterfly Dance, then Ethereal Light Wave) when EP runs low, then repeat.

Thornblade rotation

  • Melloblum: Rose Garden + Thorny Blessing. Stand in the circle for +70% Grass Crit Damage.
  • Leafy: Lotus Bloom for the Grass Boost.
  • Break: Tuckin's Breaking Roar and Off-Key Shock Wave, or Pomawk's Sonic Boom, then on-beat Wild Show.
  • Thornblade: Thorny Impact (+15% crit), Thorny Rain, then basics to spend Sword Dance, then Elegant Waltz.
  • Swap to your Regen to refill, then repeat.

Swaps, budget and F2P options

If you don't have | Use | Why

Irisalis | Irisal | Same Leafy-Turbo shell. Irisal is a free catch in the Sea of Flowers, and Leafy's Turf powers its +30% trait.

Somniwing | Gracewing or Besauce | Gracewing is Game8's swap (less EP, real heals). Besauce is GameWith's default battery.

Tuckin (early game) | Pomawk | Tuckin needs maxed HP to break well. Pomawk works at any investment if you can hit the timing.

Prismana Thornblade | Thornblade | Identical build. Prismana only adds Aqua Defense.

Melloblum (Irisalis team) | don't | Melloblum needs a Grass crit DPS, and Irisalis wants Leafy and Turbo instead.

Advanced Grass tips

Know which engine you're feeding

Clones (Irisalis)

Every buff that scales per clone (Feather T2, contract) rewards keeping all clones alive. Recasting Irisalis Shadow resets them, so don't spam it.

Crits (Thornblade, Pomawk)

Base crit is 10%. Stack Nimble (+5%), Thorny Impact (+15%) and Pomawk's Tuning (+20%), then let Rose Garden's +70% Crit Damage pay out.

Turf (Irisal)

+30% Damage Amp only while standing on Turf. Leafy's trait lays it after a teammate's 3rd skill, and Cyclone of Leaves lays it for 20s.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Melloblum without a Grass crit DPS. Its whole kit keys off Grass crits. Game8 says to run Somniwing or Gracewing otherwise.
  • Hexxin as your Grass battery. The Curse refund only works with Dark basic attacks. You keep the flat 10 EP and lose the rest.
  • Leaving Thornblade uncontracted if you follow GameWith's team, which assumes the boosted Thorny Rain.
  • Releasing Irisalis. Kairos: Legendaries are catch-once. Never release one. 9:16
  • Grass into Fire, Light or Grass. They resist you, and Fire, Wind and Dark hit you for 1.6×.

Game8's Glacy page names its ultimate "Lotus Bloom", which boosts Grass damage. That's a copy error: Lotus Bloom is Leafy's ultimate, and Glacy's is Spring of Life, a heal. Glacy's +15% Glimmer Shot still works on Grass teams, but the Grass Boost comes from Leafy.

What to invest in first

  • Irisalis, before Dec 10. Buy the Iris Petals every week, since they're weekly-limited. Kairos lists them among the limited items to buy in the Handbook Exchange weekly shop. 8:15
  • Leafy, the shared piece of every Grass team, and a cheap Regen build. Contract it if you have spare Marks.
  • The Floral Rainbow Feather and the Irisalis contract. Both add clone damage, which is Irisalis's main scaling.
  • Thornblade + Melloblum as your second Grass team, or right away if you missed Irisalis.

He names Leafy as the element-matched support that beats the universal ones for Irisalis. 5:41 His Irisalis also picked up a permanent +HP innate from the Star-Crossed Tea Party, which is worth idling on a DPS. 18:16

Water and Earth each resist four elements, and Grass hits both for 1.6×. That makes it the counter for Holo-Battle Sim's Water rotation and for Water or Earth Alphas. For the full multiplier stack, see the damage guide.
