A full guide to Team NINJA's Three Kingdoms soulslike: the deflect-centered combat system, Morale and Fortitude, the Five Phases and how to build around them, example builds with real gear, main boss order with tips, DLC and endgame, and the mistakes that make the game feel harder than it is.

Spirit is Wo Long's stamina and aggression meter in one:
A timed defensive action that redirects the attack, negates damage, raises your Spirit and lowers the enemy's. Deflecting is always better than guarding when you can time it.
Telegraphed with a red glow. They cannot be guarded, and taking one can knock your Morale Rank down. Deflecting one breaks enemy stance dramatically and recovers negative Spirit.
When an enemy's Spirit is broken or they are unaware, a Fatal Strike deals heavy damage. It consumes surplus positive Spirit to increase damage, and against bosses it also lowers their Morale Rank.
| System | What it does |
|---|---|
| Morale Rank | Your in-stage power level (max 25). Raised by killing enemies, Fatal Strikes, landing Martial Arts or spells, and capturing flags; lowered by dying and by highly damaging blows such as Critical Blows |
| Fortitude Rank | Your minimum Morale after death. Raised by claiming Battle Flags and Marking Flags |
| Genuine Qi | Experience currency. Dropped on death; recover it by defeating the enemy that killed you |
| Enemy Morale | Shown above enemies; higher than yours means dangerous |
Rule of thumb: clear a stage's flags before challenging the boss. Walking in with high Fortitude means even a death leaves you strong.
Leveling up puts points into the five Phase Virtues. Each raises HP plus specific stats, and each is tied to an element.
| Phase | Key stats (all also raise HP) | Resistance it raises | Spell element and status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wood | Most HP of the five, Spirit Defense, spell duration | Earth | Lightning; Shock |
| Fire | Spirit gain from attacking, cheaper Martial Arts | Metal | Flame; Burns |
| Earth | Spirit gain from deflecting, max equipment weight | Water | Stone; Heaviness |
| Metal | Spirit Stability, cheaper Wizardry Spells | Wood | Toxin; Poison |
| Water | Stealth, cheaper deflects | Fire | Ice; Chill |
Phases follow the Five Phases cycle: each Virtue raises resistance to the phase it overcomes (Wood over Earth, Earth over Water, Water over Fire, Fire over Metal, Metal over Wood). Use elements that exploit a boss's phase, and remember that each elemental status lowers resistance to another element (Shock lowers Toxin resistance, Burns lowers Ice, Chill lowers Stone, Heaviness lowers Lightning, Poison lowers Flame).
| Build | Phase | Main gear | Spells | Divine Beast | Armor |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Unrivaled Spear | Wood | Unparalleled Spear, Curve-Headed Glaive | Lightning Weapon, Inner Breath, Absorb Vitality, Amplify Damage | Qinglong | Dauntless Tiger Servant Set |
| Stealth Assassin | Water | Chivalrous Swordsman Dual Swords, Night Owl Cane, Feathered Cavalry Bow | Alacrity Haste, Amplify Damage, Ice Weapon, Unseeable Form | Baize | Libationer Guo Set |
| Venomous Taoist | Metal | Sword of Yu The Great, Tiger Hunting Bow | Life Wither, Thorn Shot, Venom Snare, Amplify Damage | Tengshe | Evil Taoist Set |
Treat these as late-game targets; early on, any decent weapon of the type you like works, and set bonuses matter more once you have full sets.
Divine Beasts such as Zhuque, Baihu and Qinglong come to you through alliances in the story.

Recruit sessions let you bring other players into your battlefields, and story allies often fight with you. Co-op makes early bosses much more manageable and is a good way to learn patterns.
Is Wo Long easier than Sekiro or Nioh? Many players find it more forgiving thanks to allies, Fortitude and generous checkpoints, but the deflect timing is strict.
How do I beat Zhang Liang? Deflect his Critical Blows, use your Divine Beast when charged, and stay patient. As of Ver1.305, his first-playthrough fight is easier and your HP and healing are refilled before the demon form.
What is the max Morale Rank? 25.
What should I level first? Wood for safety, or whichever Phase matches your weapon and spell style. Focus rather than spreading points.
Is the DLC worth it? Yes if you enjoy the base game: new weapon types (Cestus, Long Sword, whip), new difficulties, bosses and endgame.
Is Wo Long still updated? Occasionally. Ver1.305 in June 2026 rebalanced the first boss and added ROG Xbox Ally support.
