# Warframe: Complete Guide

A new-to-veteran roadmap for Warframe: what to do in your first hours, how modding and progression work, how to earn Platinum for free, the endgame loop, and what's new in Update 44.

*Researched September 2026 — current as of Update 44: Iceblade of Narin (released September 23, 2026). Live games change; check the linked sources if something differs.*

## Quick Start

1. **Pick any starter frame; they're all fine.** Excalibur (melee), Mag (magnetic/crowd control) or Volt (electricity/speed). You'll get the others later.
2. **Follow the Star Chart.** Unlocking planets and doing quests is the main progression path; the quests teach the game's systems.
3. **Don't spend your starter Platinum on cosmetics or boosters.** Use it on Warframe and weapon slots, the most valuable Platinum purchases early.
4. **Mods are your real power.** A well-modded starter weapon beats a new weapon with no mods. Level mods with Endo and Credits.
5. **Install an Orokin Reactor (frames) or Catalyst (weapons)** on gear you plan to keep; they double mod capacity.
6. **Join a clan early.** Clan Dojos research many weapons and let you craft them.
7. **Level everything once.** Mastery Rank (MR) comes from leveling each unique item to max rank; higher MR unlocks weapons and more trades.
8. **Trade for Platinum.** Prime parts, mods and Arcanes sell to players for Platinum, the premium currency. You never have to spend real money.
9. **Daily login and Nightwave** give free rewards; check Nightwave challenges weekly.
10. **Claim the free Update 44 login rewards** (including Banshee) before October 7, 2026.

## Early Game Roadmap

| Stage | Goal |
|---|---|
| Vor's Prize (tutorial) | Get your starter frame, weapons and Orbiter |
| Earth, Venus, Mercury | Unlock nodes, farm basic resources, build your first new frame (Rhino is the classic early pick) |
| Natah / The Second Dream | Core story quests that unlock key systems, including your Operator |
| Plains of Eidolon (Earth open world) | Fishing, mining, bounties, Eidolon hunts later |
| The War Within, Chains of Harrow | Operator and Focus progression |
| The New War | Major cinematic quest; required for later content |
| Whispers in the Walls, Duviri | Late-game systems, Incarnon weapons and more |
| Completing the Star Chart | Unlocks The Steel Path (the hardcore mode) |

**First frame to farm:** **Rhino** from the Jackal on Venus (a boss node). He's tanky and easy to mod.

### Early Warframe farms

Boss (Assassination) nodes drop one component blueprint per clear; you buy the main blueprint from the Market for Credits. Farming a frame usually means repeating the same boss several times.

| Warframe | Boss | Node | Why get it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rhino | Jackal | Fossa, Venus | Iron Skin makes you very hard to kill early |
| Frost | Lt. Lech Kril and Captain Vor | Exta, Ceres | Snow Globe for defense missions |
| Ember | General Sargas Ruk | Tethys, Saturn | Fire damage and crowd clearing |
| Valkyr | Alad V | Themisto, Jupiter | Tanky melee frame |
| Loki | Hyena Pack | Psamathe, Neptune | Invisibility for stealth and spy missions |
| Saryn | Kela De Thaym | Merrow, Sedna | Excellent area damage with Viral/Toxin |
| Nekros | Lephantis | Magnacidium, Deimos | Desecrate adds extra loot drops when farming |

Building a frame takes 3 days of crafting time (components 12 hours each), so start blueprints before you log off.

### Mastery Rank tests

Every time you have enough Mastery XP, take the **Mastery Rank test** (available from your Orbiter or a Relay). A failed test locks you out for 24 hours, so use the practice attempt first. Higher MR raises your daily trade count, unlocks gear with MR requirements, and increases the daily Standing cap for syndicates.

## Core Systems

### Mods and Capacity

- **Mod capacity** rises with the item's rank. Orokin Reactors and Catalysts double it.
- **Polarity:** install **Forma** to add matching polarities so mods cost less capacity. Forma resets the item to rank 0.
- **Key early weapon mods:** Serration (rifle damage), Hornet Strike (pistol), Point Blank (shotgun), Pressure Point (melee), plus elemental mods (Heat, Cold, Electricity, Toxin) for combined elements.
- **Key Warframe mods:** Vitality, Redirection, Steel Fiber, Intensify, Streamline, Continuity, Flow, Stretch. Rank them up over time.

### Elements

Primary elements combine into secondary elements (for example, Heat + Cold = Blast, Electricity + Toxin = Corrosive). Different enemy factions (Grineer, Corpus, Infested, Corrupted) are weak to different elements. Corrosive and Viral are popular all-rounders.

### Void Relics and Prime Parts

- Void Fissure missions let you open **Void Relics** for Prime Warframe and weapon parts.
- Prime parts are **tradeable** for Platinum or can be exchanged for **Ducats** with Baro Ki'Teer (the Void Trader) for exclusive items.
- Relics come in **Lith, Meso, Neo, Axi** tiers. Refine them with Void Traces for better chances at rare parts.
- Prime items are periodically vaulted and unvaulted through Prime Resurgence.

### Operator, Focus and Arcanes

- The Operator unlocks after The Second Dream. Use Focus schools for passive bonuses.
- **Arcanes** are powerful upgrades from bosses, open worlds and vendors. They're a major late-game power step.

### Helminth

The Helminth system (installed in your Orbiter after reaching the required Mastery Rank and earning the Helminth Segment from the Entrati on Deimos) lets you subsume one frame's ability onto another. It's the key to endgame build customization.

### Rivens

Riven mods have random stats for specific weapons. As of Update 44, **Riven Trait Locking** is live: you can lock one stat while re-rolling (locking is free, but each cycle costs double Kuva while a stat is locked). **Riven Splicing**, which combines two traits into a spliced locked trait, arrives with the Glacial Defiance mode.

## Update 44: Iceblade of Narin

**Narin** is the 66th Warframe, built around ice. Her abilities:

| Ability | Effect |
|---|---|
| Sangodae (passive) | Enemies with Cold status drop pickups that add Cold damage to your weapons |
| Neote | Lunge with her ice rapier, inflicting Cold and Puncture status |
| Naraemagi | Recovers shields by absorbing Cold status from nearby enemies; grants Overguard at full shields |
| Hakchum | Leap and land to apply Cold vulnerability and status in an area |
| Nurinarim | Needs full Ice to cast; an ancestral spirit empowers a continuous sword dance around her |

- **How to get Narin:** her parts come from Zariman drop tables, or trade **Entropic Kuva** to Cephalon Melica; she's also in the Market for Platinum.
- **Signature weapons:** the **Nunchasa** bow (Alt Fire looses a charged blizzard arrow that freezes) and the **Aksondol** dual ice pistols (reloading creates a freezing mist).
- **Also new:** the **Yuvan Peak** hub on Earth (home of Cephalon Melica and the Glacial Defiance entrance), Entropic Eximus enemies, and the Entropic Kuva resource.
- **Other changes worth knowing:** "headshot" effects on mods and Arcanes were standardized to "weak point", Hydroid's shield and armor values were swapped toward health-based survivability, and Deep Archimedea personal modifiers are now split into four groups with one group chosen each week.
- **Coming soon:** the six-player **Glacial Defiance** mode (on or before October 15) and **Epoch Operation: Taubound** (starting October 15), which leads into the Warframe: Tau expansion.

**Banshee rework:** her abilities no longer root her in place; Sonic Boom is one-handed, strips armor and stuns instead of ragdolling; Sonar weak spots count as standard weak points; Silence can be recast to refresh it; and Sound Quake is now an area ability rather than a channel (the new **Gaseous Quake** augment restores the channeled version). Banshee is free to claim via the login bonus until October 7, 2026.

**Citrine Prime Access** includes Citrine Prime, Steflos Prime and Corufell Prime.

## The Endgame Loop

1. **The Steel Path:** harder versions of every node with extra rewards (Steel Essence for Teshin's shop, Arcanes, Kuva).
2. **Archon Hunts and Archon Shards:** weekly hunts give shards that add permanent stat boosts to frames.
3. **Eidolon hunts, Profit-Taker and other open-world bosses** for Arcanes.
4. **Duviri and the Circuit** for Incarnon Genesis adapters and Warframe rotations.
5. **Rivens and Liches/Sisters** for weapon customization.
6. **Newer Zariman and 1999-era content** for Arcanes and Update 44 rewards like Narin.

## Platinum and Currencies

| Currency | How you get it | What to spend on |
|---|---|---|
| Credits | Missions, Index, Profit-Taker | Crafting, mod ranking |
| Endo | Missions, Arbitrations, dissolving mods | Ranking mods |
| Platinum | Buy, or trade with players | Slots, Orokin Reactors/Catalysts, Forma bundles |
| Ducats | Trading Prime parts at relays | Baro Ki'Teer's items |
| Kuva | Kuva Siphon/Flood missions | Rivens, Lich weapons |
| Steel Essence | Steel Path | Teshin's rewards (Umbra Forma, Arcanes) |

**F2P Platinum tips:**

- Sell **Prime parts and sets** to other players (use trade chat or community marketplaces).
- Sell rare **Arcanes and mods**.
- Watch for Platinum discount coupons from daily login.

## Common Mistakes to Avoid

- **Spending starter Platinum on cosmetics or boosters.**
- **Selling Prime parts to vendors for Credits** instead of trading them for Platinum or Ducats.
- **Skipping quests.** Many systems are locked behind them.
- **Using unmodded weapons.** Mods do more than switching weapons.
- **Forgetting Reactors/Catalysts.**
- **Grinding one weapon forever.** Leveling new items is how you raise Mastery Rank.
- **Running Steel Path before your builds are ready.**

## Advanced Tips

- **Prioritize Forma on frames and weapons you'll keep** for the long run.
- **Use Helminth** to add strong abilities (e.g. crowd control or survivability) to your favorite frames.
- **Archon Shards** make a big difference on your main frames.
- **Incarnon adapters** turn older weapons into top-tier options.
- **Check the wiki drop tables** before farming anything.
- **Keep an eye on Prime Resurgence** for relics you need.
