MY.GAMES' announcement said: "After many years together, we have made the difficult decision to begin the sunset process for Warface: Clutch." The company said the decision followed "an evaluation of the project's long-term prospects" and that it was moving resources to other products and new initiatives. Between February 26 and the shutdown dates, players could keep playing with the content and items they already owned.
The official shutdown FAQ, posted on the Steam news feed on February 26, 2026, put it this way: "All eligible funds can be refunded in accordance with the policies of the platform where the purchase was made."
The game was still getting regular content right up to the sunset announcement, which is why the shutdown surprised a lot of active players. Here's what the last few months of official updates added, per the Warface: Clutch Steam news feed:
| Update | What it added |
|---|---|
| 20.11.2025 | Bergara MG sniper rifle; Outcast (part 2), Grunge, Cardinal and Network weapon series; new Sniper and Rifleman skins for Agent Shi Hao |
| Late November 2025 | Gold Rush PvP mode: collect ingots from safes and downed enemies and bank them at turn-in stations. First team to 175 ingots (or the leader when time runs out) wins. Played on Bridges Modern and Destination Modern |
| 18.12.2025 | Echoes of Valor season: the Stronghold Special Operation, the ShAK-12 battle rifle, a Battle Pass, seasonal Prestige levels and a Ranked Matches season. The season was scheduled to run until March 19, 2026 |
| December 2025 | Agent Linus Rimmel (Rifleman first) and a Christmas event with the Ice Power weapon series |
| 15.01.2026 | Hera Arms CQR and Bushmaster BA50 returned to the arsenal; Medic skin for Linus Rimmel |
| 12.02.2026 | Engineer and Sniper for Linus Rimmel, the PPK-20 SMG, and the Forbidden Science event |
A "Winter 2026" roadmap also promised faster weapon progression. It raised weapon mastery and Armory bonuses from 25% to 50%, and added infinite weapon progression past max level, paying out 40 parts per level. Two weeks after the February 12 update, the sunset was announced and purchases were switched off.
MY.GAMES published a full official guide to Stronghold in December 2025, so it's the best-documented of the late raids. The mission sends the squad to Labyrinth Island to rescue General Wharton. The co-op version runs through five sections:
A separate solo Campaign mission told Wharton's side of the escape, through the prison, the bridge tiers and the catacombs, and ended with eliminating the traitor Scott. Both missions had their own achievements.
Useful if you're looking for a replacement or just remembering the game.
| Class | Role | Signature kit |
|---|---|---|
| Rifleman | Frontline damage | Assault rifles and LMGs; handed out ammo to the team |
| Medic | Close-range and sustain | Shotguns; defibrillator revives and med kits |
| Engineer | Mobile SMG fighter, utility | SMGs; armor repair kits and claymores |
| Sniper | Long-range picks | Bolt-action and semi-auto sniper rifles |
| SED | Humanoid robot class (added later) | Heavy weapons, used in particular modes |
The class loop was the heart of Warface: a squad needed a Medic to revive, an Engineer to repair armor, and a Rifleman to keep ammo flowing. In PvE that synergy mattered more than raw aim.
In its last years the game also sold Agents: named characters such as Linus Rimmel and Shi Hao, each tied to specific classes and cosmetic skins. They were cosmetic and class variants rather than separate classes.
Wikipedia lists the currencies as Experience Points (rank), Warface Dollars (renting and buying equipment), Vendor Points (unlocking the arsenal) and premium Kredits bought with real money, alongside crates, sponsor unlock trees, seasonal battle passes and events. All of this is now inaccessible on global servers.
Warface was developed originally by Crytek Kiev. It won "Best Social/Casual/Online Game" at Gamescom 2012 and "Best FPS Game" at G-Star 2012, but reviews were mixed: Metacritic lists 62/100 for PC and 60/100 for Xbox 360. It still ran for about 13 years in the West, which is a long life for a free-to-play shooter.
There's no official successor, so choose by what you actually played Warface for:
| If you loved... | Look for... |
|---|---|
| PvE Special Operations with bosses | Co-op shooters with raid-style missions and gear progression |
| Class interplay (revives, ammo, armor) | Team shooters with hard class roles and a revive system |
| Plant the Bomb and ranked PvP | Round-based tactical shooters with a bomb mode and ranked queue |
| MY.GAMES' ecosystem | MY.GAMES still runs War Robots: Frontiers, a free-to-play mech shooter it promoted on the Warface: Clutch Steam news feed; it's a very different game (robots, not soldiers) |
Whatever you pick, start fresh: nothing from your Warface inventory, rank or purchase history carries over to any other game.
