Titanfall 2: Complete Guide

Campaign walkthrough outline and collectibles, every Titan explained, Pilot movement tech, loadouts, multiplayer modes, and how to actually find matches in 2026 (official servers and the Northstar modding client).

Researched September 2026 — current as of the final retail build of Titanfall 2 on Steam (no official content updates since the post-launch DLC era; last official server-stability patch in 2023). Live games change; check the linked sources if something differs.

State of the game: Titanfall 2 is still sold on Steam (often deeply discounted as the Ultimate Edition) and the campaign is fully offline-capable after install. Official multiplayer suffered years of DDoS attacks from 2021 onward; EA shipped a stability patch in September 2023 and official matchmaking works but has a small population. Much of the PC multiplayer community plays on Northstar, a free community client with custom servers.

Quick Start

  1. Play the campaign first. It's around 5–7 hours, widely considered one of the best FPS campaigns ever made, and it teaches movement better than any tutorial.
  2. Movement is the game. Wallrun, double jump, and slide constantly. Standing still gets you killed in every mode.
  3. Slide-hop to keep speed. Sprint, slide, and jump just as the slide ends; chaining this keeps your momentum high.
  4. As a Pilot, rodeo enemy Titans. Jump on their back to rip out a battery (and give it to your own Titan) or drop a grenade inside.
  5. Batteries matter. Picking up a battery and delivering it to a friendly Titan restores shields and speeds up its Core.
  6. Call your Titan early and use it. Titanfall time is earned faster by killing, and a Titan left idle is wasted.
  7. Every Titan has a Core ability — a big ultimate that charges over time. Save it for a fight, not for chasing a fleeing enemy.
  8. Use the Ultimate Edition perks. It unlocks all Titans and Pilot tacticals plus credits, so new players skip the grind.
  9. For multiplayer on PC, try official matchmaking first; if queues are empty, install Northstar (see below).

Controls and Movement

Rebind in Options > Controls; the HUD always shows the current key for your tactical, ordnance, Titanfall, Core and Boost prompts. The core inputs:

Action How
Double jump Jump again in mid-air (Pilot jump kit)
Wallrun Jump at a wall at an angle while moving forward
Slide Crouch while sprinting
Call Titan Press the Titanfall prompt when the meter is full
Embark / disembark Hold Use near your Titan / inside it
Eject Triple-tap Use while doomed
Rodeo Jump onto an enemy Titan's back

The Campaign

Missions in order

  1. The Pilot's Gauntlet — training.
  2. BT-7274 — meet BT, learn Titan combat.
  3. Blood and Rust — first Apex Predator boss (Kane).
  4. Into the Abyss — factory/assembly-line set pieces; fight Ash.
  5. Effect and Cause — the famous time-shift level. Swap between past and present to cross gaps and dodge enemies.
  6. The Beacon — climb a giant dish; long, vertical, with Richter at the end.
  7. Trial by Fire — heavy Titan combat as the Militia regroups for the push on the IMC fleet.
  8. The Ark — the big ship assault on the IMC fleet and the Draconis; Viper tries to stop you boarding.
  9. The Fold Weapon — finale.

Boss fights are against the Apex Predators, Blisk's mercenary crew, met in this order: Kane and Ash (on the way through the reclamation facility and factory), Richter (at the communications array), Viper (as you try to board the Draconis), then Slone in the finale. BT picks up new Titan loadouts as you progress (several from defeated bosses, others from weapon caches); you can swap between unlocked loadouts on the fly.

BT's loadouts and Cores

Each loadout has a Core with its own "destroy a Titan with..." achievement:

Loadout Core Achievement
Expedition (default) Burst Core Excessive Force
Tone Salvo Core Fire Everything!
Legion Smart Core Aim Bot
Northstar Flight Core Angel of Death
Ion Laser Core Face Melter
Scorch Flame Core Flame On!
Ronin Sword Core I have the Power!

Collecting all of BT's loadouts gives Jack of All Trades.

Collectibles: Pilot helmets

Hidden Pilot helmets are scattered through the missions (usually in out-of-the-way ledges, vents and wallrun routes). Achievements unlock at 10 (Off the Beaten Path), 25 (Collector), and all (Every Nook and Cranny). Mission select shows collected counts per level, so you can mop up later.

Titan tips

Pilot Loadouts

Tacticals

Tactical Use
Cloak Near-invisible to Pilots; great vs. Titans for rodeo
Pulse Blade Reveals enemies in an area; strong info tool
Grapple Mobility king; high skill ceiling
Stim Speed plus fast healing; easiest good pick
A-Wall Deployable cover that amps your shots through it
Phase Shift Brief escape into another dimension
Holo Pilot Decoy to bait shots

Ordnance

Frag Grenade, Arc Grenade (great vs. Titans and Pilots), Firestar, Gravity Star, Electric Smoke, Satchel.

Boosts

Earned over a match; examples include Amped Weapons, Ticks, Pilot Sentry, Map Hack, Battery Back-up, Radar Jammer, Titan Sentry, Smart Pistol, Phase Rewind, Hard Cover, and Holo Pilot Nova. Amped Weapons and Map Hack are safe defaults.

Multiplayer Modes

Mode What it is
Attrition Classic Titanfall: Pilots, Titans, and AI grunts; score points to win
Bounty Hunt Kill AI to earn cash, bank it between waves
Pilots vs Pilots No Titans or AI; pure movement gunfights
Capture the Flag Pilots-only CTF; mobility tacticals shine
Amped Hardpoint Capture and amp points for extra score
Last Titan Standing Everyone starts in a Titan, one life
Frontier Defense 4-player co-op vs. AI waves (added in the Operation Frontier Shield DLC)
Live Fire / Skirmish Smaller or rotating playlists

Frontier Defense has its own Titan progression and difficulty tiers; it's the best way to level Titans against AI.

FAQ

Is Titanfall 2 multiplayer still alive? Yes, but small. Official servers work after the 2023 stability patch, and on PC the Northstar community client hosts many active custom servers.

Do I need Titanfall 1 or Apex Legends for the story? No. The campaign stands alone, though it's set in the same universe as Apex Legends.

How long is the campaign? About 5–7 hours on Regular; longer on Master or if you hunt all helmets.

What's the best Titan for beginners? Legion or Tone for straightforward, forgiving damage; Ion for versatility; Scorch for defending objectives.

What does the Ultimate Edition include? The base game, Deluxe cosmetics (Scorch and Ion Prime Titans, warpaints, camos, nose arts), plus a jump-starter with all Titans and Pilot tacticals unlocked, credits, and double-XP tokens.

Is Northstar safe and allowed? It's the long-running community project used by most of the PC custom-server scene. Get it only from the official site/GitHub; it runs separate from official matchmaking.
