# Super Animal Royale: Beginner-to-Advanced Guide

A practical guide to winning more 64-player matches in Super Animal Royale: looting, armor and healing math, weapon picks, powerups, the other modes, progression, and what's coming in the next update.

*Researched September 2026 — current as of v2.2.1 "Super Natural Midseason" (August 2026), with v2.3 and The Bwoking Dead: Reanimated due October 13, 2026. Live games change; check the linked sources if something differs.*

## Quick Start

1. **It's a top-down 2D battle royale.** Up to 64 players drop from the Giant Eagle onto the island, loot, and fight while Super Skunk Gas closes in from the edges. Matches run about seven minutes or less.
2. **You hold two guns and one throwable type.** Pick a close-range gun and a mid/long-range gun as soon as you can.
3. **100 damage downs an unarmored animal at full health.** Armor adds up to three bars on top, so armor matters a lot.
4. **Heal with Health Juice** (Q on PC by default). You carry juice as a pool, not as separate items, and you're slowed and can't shoot while drinking.
5. **Super Tape repairs armor** one bar per tape. Keep a few.
6. **Hamster Balls and Giant Emus** are vehicles. Hamster Balls protect you and can run people over.
7. **Gas hurts through armor.** Rotate early rather than tanking the gas.
8. **Social Hub between matches.** Since the Super Animal World expansion (December 2025) you queue from a living island with fishing, bug catching, quests and hamsterball racing instead of a menu.
9. **Cosmetics never affect stats.** Every animal breed plays identically; every melee skin has the same stats.

## Controls and Settings

Controls are rebindable; defaults on PC are standard WASD movement with mouse aim and fire. Healing is on Q by default (Triangle on PlayStation, Y on Xbox, X on Switch).

Settings worth checking:
- **Crosshair and aim options** — make your crosshair easy to see against grass and sand.
- **Audio** — footsteps and gunfire give away positions; play with headphones.
- **Discord integration** — PC/Mac players can link Discord to message friends and invite them to your party in-game (added summer 2026).

## Core Systems

### Health and Health Juice
Figures below are from the community wiki; exact values can shift with balance patches.

| Fact | Value |
|---|---|
| Max HP | 100 |
| Juice you can carry | Up to 200 HP worth (you start with 25) |
| Heal rate | 4.75 HP per 0.5 seconds |
| Full heal from 1 HP | About 10.5 seconds |
| Pickups | Small Can (10), Medium Bottle (20), Large Jug (40) |

Healing can be interrupted and you keep whatever you already drank. Health Fruit, Coconuts and Mushrooms heal too, and seasonal events like Super Summer Royale scatter fruit baskets around the map.

### Armor
- Three tiers: **T1** (common), **T2** (uncommon), **T3** (rare). Each shows up to three bars above your health bar.
- **Super Tape** repairs one bar per tape.
- Most bullets strip one bar per hit. **Deagle and Magnum** rounds strip two. **Sniper and Hunting Rifle** rounds strip all three. Big explosions also strip bars by damage dealt (up to all three).
- Defeated players drop their armor undamaged next to their gravestone, so check the loot after a kill.
- Armor does **not** protect against gas, skunk bombs, dart guns, Hamster Ball hits, or grenade and barrel explosions.

That last point is key: grenades and skunk bombs are how you punish a fully armored player.

### Weapons
Per the community wiki, weapons fall into these families (some are limited-time or rotate in and out):

| Category | Weapons | Use |
|---|---|---|
| Handguns | Pistol, Dual Pistols, Magnum, Deagle, Silenced Pistol | Early game; Magnum and Deagle shred armor |
| Shotguns | Shotgun, JAG-7, Blunderbuss (limited) | Close range; JAG-7 has the highest point-blank damage |
| SMGs | SMG, Thomas Gun, Uzi, Dualzi | Close-mid spray; Uzis and Dualzis became permanent in v2.2 |
| Assault rifles | AK, M16, Bullpup (rotating) | All-rounders; the Bullpup burst rifle joined the rotating lineup in v2.2 |
| Long-range | Hunting Rifle, Sniper | Picks; both strip all armor bars in one hit |
| Sparrow | Bow & Sparrow, Sparrow Launcher | Explosive or special projectiles |
| Dart | Dogna's Dart Gun, Dogna's Dartfly Gun | Damage over time that ignores armor |
| Heavy | Minigun, Superite Laser | Sustained fire |
| Exotic / rotating | Big Clucking Gun, X-Ray Cannon (limited), Bwoking Launcher (limited) | Rare or event-only picks |

A good general loadout: **one close-range gun (shotgun/SMG) plus one rifle.** Replace pistols as soon as possible.

### Throwables
- **Grenade** – timed explosion, ignores armor.
- **Banana** – slips and immobilizes whoever steps on it.
- **Skunk Bomb** – damage cloud, great for flushing people from cover.
- **Lucky Cat Mine** – proximity trap.
- **Zip-and-Go** – deploys a zipline for fast repositioning.

### Super Powerups
Passive upgrades you find in loot. You can hold them alongside your weapons.

| Powerup | Effect (summary) |
|---|---|
| Claw Boots | Cut tall grass automatically for extra loot, no ice sliding, no slowdown in yolk/shallow water |
| Banana Forker | Eat banana peels for health, bigger consumable pickup range, better fruit healing |
| Ninja Booties | Quieter footsteps, slightly faster movement and ziplines |
| Skunk Gas Snorkel | Faster in gas, less gas damage |
| Cupgrade | 25% faster Health Juice healing |
| S.A.W. Impossible Tape | Better armor repairs, restores broken armor to one tick |
| Super Bandolier | Faster reload, more ammo and throwable capacity |

Best general picks: **Cupgrade** (healing is your biggest vulnerability) and **Super Bandolier**. Ninja Booties are great for sneaky solo play.

### Vehicles and map features
- **Hamster Ball** – rolling protection and a weapon. Ramming deals damage, and the "Roll Out" achievement needs 50 kills this way.
- **Giant Emu** – fast mount.
- **Mole Crates** – special loot crates worth the detour when you spot one (there's an achievement for opening 10).
- **Campfires** – usable map objects that help you recover between fights (an achievement tracks using 10).
- **Tall grass** – hides loot and players. Cut it (or use Claw Boots) for drops.
- **Banan cave** – a secret; placing a banana on the offering plate unlocks an achievement.

## Match Strategy

### Drop
- Watch the Giant Eagle's path. Landing at the far end of the route means fewer early fights.
- New players should land away from named hot zones, loot a full kit, then fight.

### Early game (first couple of minutes)
- Priorities: a real gun, armor, juice, tape, then a second gun.
- Don't chase kills with a pistol and no armor.

### Mid game
- Rotate toward the next safe zone early. Skunk gas ignores armor and bleeds you out.
- Use buildings and walls for cover. In top-down view, line of sight is everything.
- Tape up after every fight, even if you won.

### Late game
- Carry a throwable into the final circles. Grenades and skunk bombs force people out of cover and ignore armor.
- Don't heal in the open. Break line of sight first.
- If you have a Sniper, a first shot that strips all three armor bars gives your teammates a free follow-up.

### Squads
- Up to four players per squad, and you can revive downed teammates.
- Split roles loosely: one scout with speed, one heavy loadout, one support carrying extra tape and juice.
- Ping and call out what you see; the top-down view makes crossfires very effective.

## Other Modes

| Mode | Summary |
|---|---|
| Animal Royale (Solo/Duos/Squads) | The main battle royale |
| SAW vs Rebellion | 24v24 control point mode between SAW Security Forces and SASR rebels. Respawns plus classes (Scout, Medic, Assault, Sniper, Heavy, and the randomized Merc added in v2.2 alongside class helmets); each class upgrades to Tier 2 after 4 kills or flag captures |
| The Bwoking Dead | Infection mode: survive or infect as the Cluckles/Zombie Joe |
| Hamsterball Racing | Racing in the Social Hub, with weapons |
| The Bwoking Dead: Reanimated (coming) | New 16-player PvE wave-survival mode against Zombie Joe hordes with mutated variants, arriving with v2.3 on October 13, 2026 |

## Progression and Currencies

- After matches you earn **XP**, **Carl Coins** and **Super Serum**, used to unlock animal breeds and cosmetics.
- The **Research Lab** unlocks breeds at certain account levels. Event breeds become permanent Research Lab additions (for example, the Super Salmon at level 10 and the Super Bull Bull Shark at level 60 from Super Summer Royale 2026).
- Seasons have a paid pass (the current one is the **Super Natural Pass**) plus Starter Packs. The 2026 Rain World collab added eight Super Slugcat breeds that move to a permanent level-70 unlock after their early-access window ended on September 18, 2026.
- **Super Animal World** adds quests, NPCs, fishing, bug catching, and (since v2.2) the Museum of Super Natural History and aquarium tanks. Some fish and bugs only appear at certain times in the Social Hub's day-night cycle.

### F2P tips
- Don't spend on breeds for power — there's none to buy. Spend only on the pass if you'll play enough to finish it.
- Do weekly event challenges; they hand out XP, Carl Coins and cosmetics.
- Bug and fish collections are free progression between matches.

## Common Mistakes to Avoid

- **Fighting under-geared.** A pistol and no armor loses to anyone with a shotgun and T2.
- **Healing in the open.** You're slowed and can't shoot while drinking.
- **Forgetting tape.** Broken armor is the difference between a fight you win and one you lose.
- **Late rotations.** Gas damage ignores armor; get ahead of it.
- **Throwing grenades only as a last resort.** They ignore armor — open fights with them.
- **Standing in tall grass assuming you're safe.** Movement makes noise, and the grass can be cut.
- **Chasing across open ground.** Top-down view means everyone around sees you too.

## Advanced Tips

- **Armor math wins fights.** Against T3 armor, open with Magnum/Deagle (two bars per hit) or a Sniper/Hunting Rifle (all three), then finish with a spray weapon.
- **Dart guns for armored targets.** Their damage ignores armor.
- **Bait with bananas.** Drop one in a doorway you're holding.
- **Zip-and-Go escapes.** Save one for bad late-game circles.
- **Cut grass for loot.** Tall grass drops are boosted with Claw Boots — a solid early-game loot trick.
- **Sound discipline.** Ninja Booties plus walking lets you close distance on campers.
- **Break line of sight to heal.** Around a corner, you're invisible to anyone not also rounding it.
