Sniper Ghost Warrior 3: Complete Guide

A practical guide to Jonathan North's open-world campaign in Georgia: long-range shooting fundamentals, the Sniper/Ghost/Warrior playstyles, the drone, crafting, safe houses, side content, collectibles and DLC.

Researched September 2026. Current as of the final DLC releases (The Sabotage, September 5, 2017, and the Multiplayer Map Pack, January 26, 2018). The game is no longer receiving updates; CI Games' later entries are the Contracts games. Check the linked sources if something differs.

Quick Start

  1. Zero your scope to the target's range. Range your target (binoculars or the drone), set your scope's elevation to that distance, then aim at the head. Most "missed" shots at long range are zeroing mistakes.
  2. Account for wind. Watch the wind indicator. The further the shot, the more you need to hold into the wind.
  3. Hold your breath before you fire. Breath control steadies the scope. Fire during the steady window, not after it runs out.
  4. Scout before shooting. Tag enemies with binoculars or the drone so you know where everyone is before the first shot.
  5. Use safe houses. They're supply depots and fast-travel points, and where you prep, craft and change loadouts.
  6. Craft ammo and gadgets. Materials are everywhere, and crafting is how you keep a supply of specialty ammo and medkits.
  7. Pick a style per outpost. Sniper (long range), Ghost (stealth takedowns) or Warrior (loud). Each gives XP in its own tree.
  8. Don't ignore side content. Side-ops, Most Wanted targets and points of interest give XP, money and gear.
  9. Explore on foot near objectives, drive between them. The maps are large.

The Three Playstyles (Skill Trees)

Style What it rewards Good for
Sniper Long-range kills, headshots, shot difficulty Clearing outposts from a ridge
Ghost Stealth kills, takedowns, avoiding detection Infiltration, interrogations
Warrior Close combat, assault weapons, explosives When stealth fails, or on purpose

You earn XP in the style you play and spend it in the matching tree. For a first run, lean into Sniper and Ghost perks that improve breath control, stealth and survivability. You'll use them all game.

Long-Range Shooting Fundamentals

The game models scope calibration, weather, wind speed, distance, gravity and your breathing.

  1. Range the target. Look at the distance readout on your binoculars or drone.
  2. Adjust the scope to the nearest zero setting for that range.
  3. Correct for wind: hold toward the direction the wind comes from. Stronger wind needs more hold.
  4. Stance matters. Prone is steadiest, then crouched, then standing.
  5. Hold breath and fire in the steady window.
  6. Moving targets: lead them. Aim where they'll be when the bullet arrives.
  7. Suppressors keep you hidden but reduce effective range. A suppressed miss at long range still alerts the enemy.

Achievement markers: "Long Shot" (a kill from 500 m) and "Marksman" (a 500 m headshot with a 10x scope) are good goals for testing your fundamentals.

Special Ammo and Tools

The Drone

The drone is your recon tool. It can spot and tag enemies, hack equipment and create distractions.

Scout Mode highlights points of interest and detects explosives. Use it when you enter a new area, especially around traps.

Crafting and Economy

The Maps

The campaign spans large open regions named in the achievements: Village, Mining Town and Dam. Each has its own side-ops, Most Wanted targets and points of interest. "Local Hero" achievements need all side-ops completed in each region in one playthrough.

Story structure

Section Achievement
Prologue Scout Sniper Basic Course
Act 1 Ghost Hunt
Act 2 Enemy of my Enemy
Act 3 The Castling
Act 4 Endgame

The story opens with a prologue: Jon and his brother Robert are sent to the Russian-Ukrainian border to destroy an abandoned stockpile of Soviet-era bio-weapons. Two years later, Jon is dispatched to Georgia, officially to fight separatist cells but really to find his captured brother. A shadowy group called the 23 Society is behind events (per Wikipedia).

Side Content

Activity What to do Reward/Achievement
Side-ops Region-specific missions Local Hero (per region)
Most Wanted Neutralize named high-value targets Bounty Hunter (25%), Deputy (50%), Sheriff (75%), Marshall (100%)
Points of interest Explore marked sites Hiker (5), Trouble Seeker (10), Cat Killer (20)
Collectibles Documents and items Treasure Hunter (25%), Archeologist (50%), No Stone Left Unturned (100%)
Interrogations Grab enemies and question them for intel Third Degree (15)
Loot box on the Island A hidden stash Treasure Island

Interrogations give you intel, so grab isolated enemies when you can.

DLC

DLC What it is
The Sabotage (Sep 5, 2017) "Massive" single-player expansion as Robert North, showing the rise of the separatists that leads into the main story
The Escape of Lydia (Jun 7, 2017) Additional single-player campaign: prequel missions as a female sniper
Compound Bow (Jun 7, 2017) A silent bow; craft arrows and take enemies out from a distance
Sniper Rifle McMillan TAC-338A (Jun 7, 2017) An extra sniper rifle fitted with a Leupold Mark 4 scope
All-terrain vehicle (Jun 7, 2017) A 4x4 for off-road travel
Multiplayer Map Pack (Jan 26, 2018) Two PvP maps: Canyon (mountains) and Containers (a small industrial harbor)
Original Soundtrack and Original Georgian Soundtrack (Jun 28, 2017) Music only: the instrumental score, and a separate folk Georgian soundtrack

Dates are from the Steam store. The Season Pass and Season Pass Edition bundle most of the gameplay DLC. The Compound Bow is an excellent stealth weapon if you own it.

Multiplayer

The game has online PvP, and the Multiplayer Map Pack added the Canyon and Containers maps. In 2026 the population is very small. Treat it as something to try with friends, not a mode you'll find matches in easily.

Achievement Roadmap

SGW3 has 48 achievements, and the key detail is that most counters say "in one playthrough." Starting a new game resets them, so plan to do everything on a single save.

Comes naturally on a thorough first run: the five story achievements, "Manual Labor" and "DIY Enthusiast" (craft one item from each category), "Hiker", "Trouble Seeker" and "Cat Killer" (5, 10 and 20 points of interest), "Assassin" (25 stealth kills), "Third Degree" (15 interrogations), "Crab Walk" (1 km crouched), "Pheidippides" (run 10 km), "Aerial Recon" (fly the drone 5 km), "Environmentally Unfriendly" (drive 100 km) and "Bullet Sponge" (survive 500 hits).

Needs a bit of intent:

Achievement Condition Tip
Long Shot / Marksman 500 m kill / 500 m headshot with a 10x scope Pick a distant, stationary target on a calm day, go prone, zero precisely
Point Blank Short-distance sniper rifle kill Scope a close enemy during a stealth approach
Triple Kill 3 enemies with 1 bullet Wait for a group to line up at an outpost gate or vehicle
You Can Run But You Can't Hide Sniper rifle kill through a wall Use a round that can penetrate cover
Death From Below 5 kills from below Shoot up at guard towers and rooftops
Turn On the Wipers 25 kills while driving Chip away at roadblocks and patrols from the vehicle
Voyeur Tag 10 enemies with CCTV Hack cameras at larger outposts
Shot Down / Blown Up Drone destroyed by enemies / by traps Easy to get by accident; if not, fly low over a camp

Completion goals (one save): all Most Wanted targets ("Marshall"), all collectibles ("No Stone Left Unturned"), all side-ops in each region (the three "Local Hero" achievements), all drone modules, and all primary weapons, secondary weapons and sidearms. "I Am More" unlocks for getting everything else.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Advanced Tips

FAQ

How do I make long shots land? Range the target, set your scope zero to that distance, correct for wind, steady your breath and fire in the steady window. Go prone if you can.

How many regions are there? The main campaign regions are Village, Mining Town and Dam, each with its own side-ops.

Which DLC is worth it? The Sabotage (story as Robert North) and the Compound Bow are the most useful. The Escape of Lydia adds prequel missions.

Is multiplayer still active? Barely. The online PvP population is very small in 2026.

Should I play this or the Contracts games? SGW3 is the open-world entry. The Contracts games use contract-based sandbox maps with longer extreme-range shots, and many players find them more polished. They're fine to play in any order.

Is there a Georgian soundtrack? Yes. The Original Georgian Soundtrack is an optional music DLC of folk Georgian tracks, separate from the instrumental Original Soundtrack.
