Legion TD 2: Beginner-to-Advanced Guide

A guide to Legion TD 2 as it plays in September 2026: how the economy of gold, mythium and income works, how to build a lane that holds, when to send mercenaries, what changed in the latest patches, and how to climb in 2v2 ranked.

Researched September 2026 — current as of patch v26.9 (released 14 September 2026, hotfixed 18 September). Live games change; check the linked sources if something differs.

Quick Start

  1. You defend your own lane. Each wave of creatures walks down your lane; your fighters must kill them before they reach your team's King.
  2. You attack by sending. You spend mythium on mercenaries that join the enemy's next wave. Sending also permanently raises your income.
  3. Three economies at once: gold (build and upgrade fighters), mythium (send mercenaries, mined by workers) and income (the gold you get each wave).
  4. Your roll is random. Each match gives you 6 fighters from a huge pool. Learning how to use any roll is the core skill.
  5. Hold first, then greed. A leak costs your King health and gives your opponent momentum. Build enough to hold, then invest in workers and sends.
  6. Workers are long-term investment. Buying workers early slows your defense now but makes you much stronger later.
  7. Masterminds change your drafting. Some let you pick fighters, some give economic bonuses, some change your roll (see below).
  8. Check Drachbot. The community stats site shows mastermind, unit and spell win and pick rates. Use it to learn what's strong in the current patch.
  9. Play the new-player queue first. The game has special new-player matchmaking and dynamic in-game tips.

The Match Loop

Every wave follows the same rhythm:

  1. Build phase: Place and upgrade fighters, buy workers, queue mercenaries.
  2. Wave spawns: The wave (plus any mercenaries the enemy sent) walks down your lane.
  3. Fight: Your fighters engage; anything that gets through "leaks" to your King.
  4. Income: You receive gold based on your income; workers produce mythium.

Many balance numbers scale "from wave 1 to wave 21" in the patch notes, which gives a sense of the standard match length. Games can end earlier if a King falls.

Resources

Resource Source Spent on
Gold Per-wave income, kills Fighters, upgrades, workers
Mythium Workers mining Mercenaries (sends)
Income Increases when you send mercenaries and from some effects Paid out as gold each wave

The core decision every wave: spend gold on fighters (defense now), workers (more mythium later), or save.

Building a Lane

Fighters and roles

Fighters have roles (tank, damage, support and so on) and attack/armor types. Patch notes describe typing such as Impact or Swift — some typings are strong against certain armor and weak against others. The in-game tooltip shows effectiveness against the current wave.

Placement tips

Value

A lane's strength is roughly measured by the total gold value of your fighters. Experienced players keep a mental benchmark of how much value each wave needs; staying just above it while maximizing workers and sends is the balancing act. Use the in-game tips and match stats after games to calibrate.

Sending Mercenaries

Mercenaries cost mythium and appear in your opponent's next wave. They:

Beginner rule: send when you have enough mythium to make a real dent, or save up for a big "all-in" send on a wave the enemy is weak against. A send on a wave the enemy can easily hold only helps your income.

Masterminds and Legions

At the start of a match you pick a legion or a Mastermind. The eight classic legions give a fixed pool; Masterminds bend the rules. Masterminds mentioned in recent patch notes:

Mastermind What it does (per recent patches)
Swarm (new in v26.9) +3 income; draft your roll but 6 of 11 choices are tier-1 fighters; +1 income and +1 gold per picked T1; no rerolls
Aristocrat The expensive-fighter strategy; Swarm is described as its opposite
Scrapper Starting gold bonus that has been tuned repeatedly (set to 0 in v26.9)
Shepherd Creative, high skill-cap mastermind; its sheep health was buffed 6% in v26.9
Ace Stacking attack-speed and HP bonus reworked in v26.8 (HP gain 40 to 50; multiplicative attack speed)
Chaos Received a starting gold buff (3 to 4) in v26.7 for low win rate

Masterminds change often; always check the latest patch and Drachbot.

Legion Spells

Mid-match you choose a Legion Spell that permanently alters one of your fighters or your economy. Recent examples:

v26.7a hotfix Sniper range and attack speed buffed.
v26.8 (August 2026) New Fighter: Rift Trader (55 gold DPS, Impact/Swift typing) whose attacks cycle through trash projectiles; Heroic upgrade (130 gold) makes coins generate gold and anvils stun. Ace reworked; Scrapper starting gold changed; a sizable nerf to Angler.
v26.8 hotfixes Scrapper reduced; Kingpin reverted slightly; Rift Trader buffed and made flying so Leviathan can buff it; fix for Pack Rat losing Ace stacks.
v26.9 (September 2026) New Mastermind: Swarm. Heroic renames: Mr. Brewpot's heroic is now Dr. Brewpot, Scrappy's is Super Scrappy, Rift Trader's is Rift Baron. Scrapper starting gold 1 to 0; Shepherd sheep health up 6%; King regeneration upgrade up 22%.

The King

Each team shares a King at the end of the lanes. Leaks damage the King. You can upgrade the King (attack, regeneration and spell), which matters most in the late game. In v26.9 the regeneration upgrade was increased to make early leaks less "sticky", and in the hotfix King attack speed rose by 4%.
