# Jurassic World Evolution 2: Complete Guide

A park-management guide for Frontier's dinosaur sim: which mode to start with, building a profitable park, keeping dinosaurs comfortable, managing scientists and research, dealing with storms and breakouts, and getting 5 stars in Campaign, Chaos Theory, Challenge and Sandbox.

*Researched September 2026 — current as of Update 1.11.3 (June 2025). The sequel, Jurassic World Evolution 3, launched on 21 October 2025; JWE2 is still fully playable but no longer receives feature updates. Live games change; check the linked sources if something differs.*

## Quick Start

1. **Play the Campaign first.** It's a guided tutorial across several US locations, introducing systems one by one. Then move to Chaos Theory.
2. **Research and expeditions unlock everything.** Dig sites (via the Expedition Center) give fossils; fossils give genome progress; genome at a certain level lets you incubate a species.
3. **Hire a balanced scientist team.** Scientists have Logistics, Genetics and Welfare stats. Match the right scientist to the job, and rest them before they get tired and go on strike.
4. **Build enclosures for the dinosaurs' needs, not yours.** Every species has needs for forest, open grassland, water, and social group size. Check the dinosaur's info panel before hatching.
5. **Separate herbivores and big carnivores.** Big predators will hunt and kill herbivores sharing their territory.
6. **Power everything.** Most buildings need power. Build power stations and substations early and route power lines.
7. **Guests pay for amenities and viewing.** Place viewing galleries, shops, restaurants and hotels near attractive dinosaur habitats.
8. **Keep a Ranger Station and Response Facility near every enclosure.** Rangers feed, resupply, and heal; the Response Facility tranquilizes and relocates escaped animals.
9. **Watch the weather.** Storms damage fences and can knock out power. Prepare with generators and repairs.
10. **Save before big moves.** Hatching a big carnivore or releasing two species together can go wrong quickly.

## Game Modes

| Mode | What it is | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Campaign | Story set after Fallen Kingdom; containing dinosaurs loose across the USA | Learning the systems |
| Chaos Theory | "What if" scenarios based on the Jurassic Park and Jurassic World films | Challenge and fan service |
| Challenge | Timed park-building with difficulty tiers and constraints | Testing mastery |
| Sandbox | Unlimited creative mode with custom settings | Building dream parks |

Iconic characters appear: Dr. Ian Malcolm (voiced by Jeff Goldblum) and Claire Dearing (voiced by Bryce Dallas Howard).

**Tip:** Chaos Theory missions unlock content for Sandbox. Play them to unlock more species and buildings.

## Core Systems

### Scientists

Scientists are essential. Each has stats in:

- **Logistics:** Speeds up construction/building upgrades and expeditions.
- **Genetics:** Speeds up synthesis and genetic modification.
- **Welfare:** Speeds up healing and disease treatment.

Every action drains their energy. Tired scientists become unhappy, and unhappy scientists may **sabotage** your park. Rest them regularly by unassigning them for a while.

### Research

Research unlocks new buildings, upgrades, dinosaur modifications, and amenities. Priorities in a new park:

1. Power upgrades and additional scientists.
2. Ranger and response capabilities.
3. Guest amenities and viewing galleries.
4. Dinosaur feeders and enrichment.
5. Genetic modification (traits and lifespan).

### Expeditions and fossils

- Send teams to **dig sites** from the Expedition Center.
- Returned fossils can be extracted to add to a species' genome, or sold.
- A species can be incubated once its genome reaches the required level. Higher genome percentage means a healthier, more viable dinosaur.

### Hatching (Hatchery)

- Incubation happens at the Hatchery; you choose the species, then pick genome modifications before releasing the animal into its enclosure.
- You can modify genomes to improve traits such as lifespan, resistance to disease, attack/defense, and appearance.
- Check viability: low-viability embryos may die in incubation.

### Dinosaur welfare

Every species has needs:

| Need | What to provide |
|---|---|
| Food | Feeders or live prey (goats), plants for herbivores |
| Water | A lake or water source in the territory |
| Territory | Forest and open ground ratios in their territory |
| Social | Correct population size, compatible species |
| Comfort | All the above plus no threats |

Dinosaurs that are uncomfortable may break fences and escape.

### Territory

Territory is the area each animal considers home. Two animals whose territories overlap may fight, share, or ignore each other depending on species relationships.

- **Herbivores:** Most can live together. Some species dislike others; check the relationship info.
- **Carnivores:** Most are solitary or small groups. Some pack hunters (like Velociraptor) need their pack.
- **Aviaries and lagoons:** Flying reptiles need aviaries; marine reptiles need lagoons.

### Diseases and injuries

Diseases spread via contaminated feeders and water. Rangers and the **Paleo-Medical Facility** handle treatment. Keep feeders stocked and check dinosaurs' health often.

## Building a Profitable Park

### Layout principles

- **Build guest zones around attractions.** Guests pay for amenities near the dinosaurs they want to see.
- **Keep guest zones compact.** Long walks lower guest satisfaction.
- **Use viewing galleries, platforms and Gyrosphere rides** to let guests see dinosaurs without direct exposure.
- **Offer a mix of guest types.** Different guests prefer different dinosaurs (herbivores vs carnivores) and amenities. Balance your park to satisfy several groups.

### Money

- **Admission revenue** grows with park rating.
- **Amenity revenue** depends on amenity quality and guest traffic.
- **Selling fossils** is a good early money source.
- **Park rating** drives guest numbers, so every star you gain compounds your income.

### Guest safety

- Build **emergency shelters** in guest areas; guests hide there during breakouts.
- Keep strong fences around carnivores. Upgrade to higher-security fences for large predators.

## Opening Build Order (Challenge and Sandbox)

A reliable first 30 minutes for a fresh map with limited money:

1. **Pause and survey.** Find flat ground near water with some forest. That spot becomes your first herbivore enclosure.
2. **Power first.** Place a power station and a substation that covers the area you'll build in.
3. **Hire scientists.** Cover each stat (Logistics, Genetics, Welfare) with at least one decent scientist.
4. **Expedition Center and a dig.** Start fossil income right away; fossils fund the early game when sold, or build genome progress.
5. **Hatchery plus a herbivore enclosure.** Start with a cheap, sociable herbivore that tolerates a group. Add a feeder and make sure there is water inside the fence.
6. **Ranger Station.** Place it close enough to reach your enclosures fast.
7. **Guest zone.** A short path from the entrance to a viewing gallery on your enclosure's edge, then one food and one drink amenity, adding more guest facilities as research unlocks them.
8. **Research the next upgrades** while money builds: more scientists, better power, and stronger fences.
9. **Second enclosure and diversity.** A different herbivore group, then your first small carnivore only when your Response Facility and fences are ready.
10. **Shelters and backup power** before your first big predator.

**Money rule of thumb:** Always keep a cash buffer for emergency repairs. A storm that knocks down a fence while you're broke is how parks collapse.

---

## Handling Emergencies

| Emergency | What to do |
|---|---|
| Storm | Repair damaged fences; ensure backup power |
| Fence breach | Response team tranquilizes and relocates; close nearby shelters |
| Disease outbreak | Isolate infected animals; treat with Paleo-Medical Facility |
| Power outage | Build backup generators; repair damaged power lines |
| Scientist strike | Rest scientists; improve their satisfaction |

**Tip:** Upgrading Ranger Stations and Response Facilities speeds up all of these.

---

## Species Tips

- **Herbivores** such as Triceratops, Brachiosaurus, Parasaurolophus, Stegosaurus and Ankylosaurus are forgiving and popular. They're great early attractions.
- **Big carnivores** like Tyrannosaurus rex, Giganotosaurus and Allosaurus give huge attraction ratings but need strong fences, space and feeders.
- **Pack hunters** like Velociraptor need their pack size met.
- **Flying reptiles** (Pteranodon, Quetzalcoatlus) need aviaries.
- **Marine reptiles** (Mosasaurus, Plesiosaurus) need lagoons.
- **Hybrids** (e.g., Indominus rex) are high risk, high reward.

## DLC Overview

JWE2 received many DLC packs through 2024. The notable ones:

- **Dominion Biosyn Expansion** (14 June 2022): A new campaign set in Biosyn Valley from Jurassic World Dominion, with four species including Pyroraptor and Therizinosaurus.
- **Dominion Malta Expansion** (8 December 2022): A Malta black-market campaign that introduces the Dinosaur Exchange trading mechanic and four species including Atrociraptor.
- **Species packs** themed on the Early and Late Cretaceous, marine reptiles, feathered species and more.
- **Park Managers' Collection Pack** (16 May 2024): Megalodon, Microceratus, Segisaurus, Thanatosdrakon, plus a new T. rex skin.

Update 1.11.2 (June 2025) added free scenery celebrating JWE3's announcement: Dinosaur Sculptures (T. rex, Triceratops and Stegosaurus families) and Dinosaur Integration Network signs and diorama. Update 1.11.3 made them placeable on paths.

## Common Mistakes to Avoid

- **Hatching a big carnivore too early.** Without strong fences, response teams, and shelters, it's a disaster.
- **Ignoring dinosaur needs.** Unhappy dinosaurs break out.
- **Overworking scientists.** Strikes and sabotage wreck progress.
- **Underpowering the park.** A power outage can disable fences.
- **Too many species in one pen.** Relationships and social limits matter.
- **Neglecting guest variety.** A park with only herbivores attracts only some guest types.
- **Forgetting to save before experimenting.**

---

## Advanced Tips

- **Use terrain tools to create forest/grass/water ratios** exactly as needed.
- **Build "mega-enclosures"** for compatible herbivores to boost attraction and save space.
- **Aviary and lagoon attractions** can raise park ratings quickly.
- **Genome modifications** can increase lifespan and resistance to disease.
- **Sandbox settings** let you disable disease, breakouts, and other threats if you just want to build.
- **Plan paths and power corridors** before placing enclosures to avoid later demolition.

## FAQ

**Is JWE2 still worth playing now that JWE3 is out?**
Yes, especially if you already own DLC. JWE3 adds juvenile dinosaurs, breeding and modular building, but JWE2's campaign and Chaos Theory mode remain great.

**Can dinosaurs breed in JWE2?**
No. Natural breeding and juveniles are new in Jurassic World Evolution 3.

**How do I unlock more species in Sandbox?**
Play Campaign, Chaos Theory and Challenge modes; many species and buildings unlock through them.

**Why do my dinosaurs keep breaking out?**
Usually unmet needs (food, water, territory, social), storms, or weak fences. Check the comfort breakdown.

**How do I make money early?**
Sell spare fossils, keep your first herbivores comfortable, and build a small cluster of amenities near your first herbivore enclosure.

**What's the best guest-rating strategy?**
Mix species, cover multiple guest types, and put viewing galleries and amenities close to attractions.
