# Ironsight: Shutdown Guide and Retrospective

What happened to Ironsight, whether you can still play it, and a reference guide to how WipleGames' drone-powered free-to-play shooter worked: modes, maps, weapons, drones, currencies and the tactics that won matches.

> **Shut down:** On **8 May 2025** the Ironsight team announced the end of service. **W Coin sales were suspended on 9 May 2025**, and the **official service closed on 6 August 2025 at 15:00 (GMT+9)**. The Steam store page now reads "Ironsight is no longer available on the Steam store." Ironsight was an online-only game, and there is **no official offline mode or private-server release.**

## Quick Start: What You Can Still Do

1. **You can't play matches.** Every mode ran on WipleGames' servers, which are closed.
2. **W Coin and purchased items are gone.** W Coin sales stopped in May 2025, three months before closure, and the announcement doesn't mention refunds. Contact Steam Support with any purchase questions.
3. **The Steam page shows a "Request access" button for an Ironsight Playtest.** No relaunch has been announced. Treat it as a notification sign-up, not a way to play.
4. **Uninstall to reclaim space.** The client no longer connects.

### Setting

A near-future resource war: private military companies armed with weaponized drones fight over the last remaining resources on Earth. Maps featured **interactable objects** that could move terrain, block routes or transport players.

### Drones

The signature mechanic: **tactical and offensive drones** built by the private military companies. Players brought drones into matches for recon, such as the **Jaws Spy Drone**, for protecting teammates, or for "devastating" attacks on the enemy team, as the store page put it. ### Notable late patches

- **September 2023:** game servers migrated to Google Cloud; the AFK system started monitoring all input devices and disconnected players after 40 seconds of inactivity; the Broadcast map's lighting was reworked.
- **28 December 2023:** match waiting time cut from 60 to 10 seconds and **headshot damage increased by 100%**, a big shift toward precise aim.
- **January 2024:** custom games gained time limits in 30-second steps, and spectator mode showed scores.

Drone Destroyer is a reminder that enemy drones could be shot down, and LMGs were a natural tool for it.

## Tactics That Won Matches (For Veterans and Similar Games)

- **Drone timing matters.** Spy drones before a push, attack drones when the enemy is grouped.
- **Use interactable objects.** Blocking routes or moving terrain changed sightlines.
- **Search and Destroy fundamentals:** trade kills, don't peek alone, and save utility for retakes.
- **Weapon choice by map:** snipers on long sightlines, SMGs and shotguns in close quarters.
- **Clan play** rewarded communication. Callouts won rounds.

## Competitive Fundamentals That Carry Over

Ironsight's ranked play (Ranked Solo, Duel and Search and Destroy) rewarded the same habits that win in any round-based shooter:

- **Crosshair placement.** Keep your aim at head height where enemies will appear, so you move the mouse less when they do.
- **Stop to shoot.** Most tactical shooters punish moving inaccuracy. Strafe between fights, not during the shot.
- **Trade your teammates.** Stay close enough that if a teammate dies, you can kill their killer immediately.
- **Don't re-peek the same angle.** After a kill or a miss, reposition.
