Halo Infinite: Complete Guide

A guide to Halo Infinite's free-to-play multiplayer and paid campaign. It covers the game's current support status, weapons and equipment, ranked play, the Operation pass, and a campaign walkthrough outline with skull locations.

Researched September 2026 — current as of Operation: Infinite (November 18, 2025), the last major content update Halo Studios has planned. Live games change; check the linked sources if something differs.

Status in 2026: Read This First

Quick Start

  1. Multiplayer is free; the campaign is sold separately. The campaign also supports online co-op and Mission Replay.
  2. Play Academy first. The Weapon Drills and bot matches teach recoil, kill times, and weapon ranges without pressure.
  3. Your starting kit is the MA40 Assault Rifle plus the Mk50 Sidekick pistol. Learn to finish kills with a melee after a shield pop. That's the core Halo skill.
  4. Control power weapons and equipment. Rockets, Sniper, Energy Sword, Overshield, and Active Camo decide most Arena games. The game announces and marks them shortly before they spawn.
  5. Don't sprint around corners into fights. Sprinting lowers your weapon and shows you on enemy motion trackers, so you lose the first shot. Sprint to rotate, not to engage.
  6. Shoot for the head after the shield breaks. Precision weapons (BR75, Sidekick, Commando, Sniper) do bonus damage to heads once the shield is down.
  7. Stick with your team. Team shooting (two players on one target) wins far more fights than solo aim.
  8. Grind the Operation pass while it's on 2X. Operation: Infinite brought double Career Rank progress and double Spartan Points from challenges.

Game Modes

Mode What it is
Quick Play 4v4 Arena mix (Slayer, Strongholds, CTF, Oddball, King of the Hill)
Ranked Arena 4v4 competitive with visible CSR (Bronze → Silver → Gold → Platinum → Diamond → Onyx)
Ranked Doubles, other ranked playlists Rotating smaller ranked queues; formats change with each Ranked Season
Big Team Battle 12v12 with vehicles on large maps
Husky Raid Fast CTF on small maps (the Yuletide map supports it)
Firefight / Firefight: Gauntlet 4-player PvE. Gauntlet has boss waves and upgradable Speed, Resistance, Regeneration, and Damage attributes
Infection, Extraction, Squad Battle, rotating events Casual rotating modes
Forge / Custom Games Community maps and modes, browsable in-game

Weapons: What to Pick Up

Role Weapons Notes
Starter MA40 AR, Mk50 Sidekick AR for close range; pistol for precision at mid range
Precision (mid-long) BR75 Battle Rifle, VK78 Commando, Stalker Rifle (plasma), S7 Sniper, Skewer BR is the Arena standard. Skewer deals huge vehicle damage
Close range CQS48 Bulldog, Mangler, Heatwave, Energy Sword, Gravity Hammer Sword and Hammer are power weapons
Plasma / shield strippers Plasma Pistol, Pulse Carbine, Needler, Sentinel Beam Plasma strips shields fast; a charged Plasma Pistol shot drains a shield or disables vehicles
Explosive M41 SPNKr (Rockets), Hydra, Cindershot, Ravager Rockets and Hydra lock onto vehicles
Anti-vehicle Shock Rifle, Disruptor Shock/electric damage stuns vehicles and chains between enemies

Kinetic weapons are better against health; plasma is better against shields; shock is better against vehicles.

Equipment

Equipment Use
Grappleshot Traversal, pulling weapons to you, closing distance for a melee
Repulsor Bounces grenades, vehicles, and players, and knocks back sword and hammer lunges
Threat Sensor Throwable that reveals enemies through walls
Thruster Short directional dodge
Drop Wall Deployable cover for revives, holding hills, or blocking a sniper
Overshield Power item: extra shield layer
Active Camo Power item: near-invisibility (the motion tracker still shows you if you fire or sprint)

Arena Maps and Rotations

Arena staples include Live Fire, Recharge, Streets, Aquarius, Bazaar, Behemoth, Catalyst, Argyle, Empyrean, Forbidden, Prism, Solitude. Operation: Infinite added Vacancy (an asymmetrical hotel-courtyard map for Ranked modes) and Yuletide (an alpine village for Quick Play and Husky Raid). BTB rotates Fragmentation, Deadlock, Highpower, Breaker, and community Forge maps.

On any map, learn:

  1. Where power weapons and power items spawn, and their timers.
  2. The two or three "power positions" (high ground with cover).
  3. Which spawns flip when your team pushes too far.
