This guide covers the path from your first Horizon Qualifier to the Golden Wristband and Legend Island. It includes wristband progression, settings and assists, credit-earning habits, cars and tuning, the Estate, and the online modes.
Researched September 2026 — current as of the post-launch Series updates on PC/Xbox (the current Series number and theme could not be confirmed at review time; check the Festival Playlist in-game). Live games change; check the linked sources if something differs.
Forza Horizon 6 is from Playground Games (with Turn 10 assisting) and published by Xbox Game Studios. It launched on Xbox Series X|S and PC on May 19, 2026, with Premium Edition early access from May 15. A PS5 version is due later in 2026. It's on Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. The setting is Japan, the largest Horizon map to date, with Tokyo as its main urban area (reported as about five times larger than any previous Horizon city).
The prologue gives you a cinematic tour of the map's regions, driving a 2024 Nissan GT-R Nismo, a Polaris RZR Pro 4 and a 1995 Porsche 911 GT2. Legend Island, which hosts a second festival site and unique challenges, stays locked until you earn the Golden Wristband.
Launch content included over 550 cars, with a Car Pass of 30 extra cars delivered one per week.
| Step | What you do | What it unlocks |
|---|---|---|
| Arrival | Prologue drive into Japan | Choice of starter car (you get all three) |
| Horizon Qualifiers | Six events: a circuit, a Trail Race, a PR Stunt and more | Festival Points toward the Invitational |
| Horizon Invitational | Win the showcase event | Yellow Wristband; you're officially in the festival |
| Wristband tiers | Complete festival events at each tier | New event types, PR Stunts, hidden Street Races, more of the map |
| Golden Wristband | Finish the top tier | Horizon Legend status and access to Legend Island |
Discover Japan is a separate track that unlocks after the Invitational. You earn stamps by completing exploration activities such as Street Races, Touge Battles, Car Meets and Time Attack Circuits. Treat it as your checklist for side activities.
| Setting | Beginner | When you're ready |
|---|---|---|
| ABS | On | Off (only with a wheel or real practice) |
| Driving line | Braking only | Off |
| Shifting | Automatic | Manual (then Manual with clutch for the fastest shifts) |
| Traction / stability control | On | Traction off first, then stability |
| Steering | Assisted/Standard | Simulation |
| Drivatar difficulty | Low-mid | Raise it until you win roughly half your races |
Lower assists and harder AI both raise the credit multiplier. Because the payout bonus stacks, the fastest way to earn money is to get good enough to turn things off.
PC players: update your GPU drivers and aim for a stable frame rate before you judge the handling. Stutter feels exactly like bad steering.
| Activity | What it is | Tip |
|---|---|---|
| Road / Dirt / Cross Country races | The core festival events | Match the car's class and tires to the surface |
| Street Races | Night and urban racing, some hidden until a new wristband | Traffic is on, so brake earlier than you think |
| Touge Battles | Mountain-pass duels | Grip-tuned light cars (AE86-style) do great here |
| Time Attack Circuits | Hotlap challenges | Good for learning a car before you tune it |
| Drag Meets | Straight-line drags | A clean launch wins most drags; see the launch tip under Advanced Tips |
| Car Meets | Social hubs | Browse builds, download tunes and look at liveries |
| PR Stunts | Speed traps, speed zones, drift zones, danger signs, trailblazers | Big early skill points and stars |
| Barn Finds / Treasure Cars | Hidden classics | Mark them on the map and come back with the right car |
| Mascots | 200 collectibles | 5,000 credits each |
Classes run from D (slowest) through C, B, A, S1, S2 to X. Most early festival events restrict you to one class, so a well-built car near the top of its class is ideal.
What to own early
Upgrade order (per class point): tires, then weight reduction, then brakes and suspension, then power. Swapping the drivetrain (AWD) is a powerful way to make any car easy to drive, but it costs a lot of class points.
Tuning: FH5 tunes don't carry over, because car classes were rebalanced. Vinyls and decals do transfer (you may need to rebuild full liveries from their vinyl groups). If you don't tune yourself, download community tunes at Car Meets or through the tune browser by searching your car.
Online play opens up early, including The Eliminator (a battle royale for up to 72 players) and other multiplayer racing and party modes — check the online menu for the current rotation. EventLab lets you build and share custom events. Save ranked or competitive sessions for when you have time. Casual online modes are fine to drop into.
When did Forza Horizon 6 come out? May 19, 2026 on Xbox Series X|S and PC (early access from May 15). PS5 is due later in 2026.
Which starter car should I pick? It doesn't matter much, because all three go into your garage. The Silvia is for roads, the Celica GT-Four is the stable AWD option, and the GMC Jimmy is for off-road.
How do I unlock Legend Island? Earn the Golden Wristband by completing the wristband tiers.
How many cars are in FH6? Over 550 at launch, plus 30 Car Pass cars (one per week) and cars added in Series updates.
Do my FH5 tunes or liveries carry over? Tunes don't, because the classes were rebalanced. Vinyls and decals do.
What's the fastest way to earn credits early? Collect Mascots (5,000 each) and race at a higher difficulty with fewer assists. Also spin every Wheelspin.
Is FH6 on Game Pass? Yes, on Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass.
