FIFA 22: Offline Player's Guide

How to get the most out of FIFA 22 on PC today: what still works, Career Mode (manager, Create a Club, and player), controls, attacking and defending fundamentals, and the settings that matter.

Researched September 2026 — current as of the final PC build; FIFA 22 is delisted and its online servers are closed. Live games change; check the linked sources if something differs.

Status (September 2026): FIFA 22 is no longer sold on Steam (the store page shows "FIFA 22 is no longer available on the Steam store"). EA's FIFA licence ended on 31 December 2022, and the series continues as EA Sports FC. EA shut down FIFA 22's online servers on November 4, 2024 on PC and consoles (Stadia went earlier, on January 18, 2023). Online modes such as Ultimate Team, VOLTA, Pro Clubs, and online Seasons no longer work. If you already own it, the offline modes below are still fully playable. If you want online football today, look at the current EA Sports FC release instead.

Quick Start

  1. Know what's still playable. Kick-Off, Career Mode (Manager and Player), Tournaments, Skill Games, and the Practice Arena are all offline. That's still a huge game.
  2. Use a controller. FIFA 22 supports DualShock 4 and Xbox controllers on Steam. Keyboard works, but skill moves and precise passing are much easier on a pad.
  3. Learn to jockey. Holding the jockey button (L2/LT) and staying goal-side beats rushing in with tackles.
  4. Pass more, sprint less. Constant sprinting drains stamina and makes your first touch heavy. Short, simple passes win games against the AI.
  5. Finesse shots from the edge of the box are the most reliable way to beat the keeper at the far post.
  6. Adjust difficulty honestly. Start at Professional or World Class; move up once you're winning comfortably. Legendary and Ultimate AI play very differently.
  7. In Career Mode, scout early. A good youth academy and scouting network turn a small club into a powerhouse.
  8. Try Create a Club. Building your own club in Career Mode was new in FIFA 22 and is the most replayable single-player mode.

What Still Works (and What Doesn't)

Mode Status on PC Notes
Kick-Off Works Quick matches, local multiplayer, House Rules variants
Career Mode (Manager) Works Includes Create a Club
Career Mode (Player) Works Create or take control of a player
Tournament Works Official competitions and custom tournaments offline

Tactics

Career Mode

Manager Career

Your job is to meet board objectives (domestic success, youth development, finances, brand exposure) while managing budgets and squad morale.

Scouting and youth

Create a Club (new in FIFA 22)

You design a club and pick a league for it to replace an existing team.

  1. Name, crest, kits, and stadium. Purely cosmetic, but a big part of the fun.
  2. Club expectations. Choose things like transfer budget and the board's priorities.
  3. Squad setup. Choose the squad's average age and overall rating range. A low-rated, young squad makes for a long rebuild; a high-rated older squad starts strong but declines.
  4. Rivals. Choose rival clubs, which affects some objectives and presentation.

Tip: start in a lower league for a slower, more satisfying climb. Promotion and relegation work normally.

Player Career

You create or pick a player and play only that player's role.

Difficulty Settings

Difficulty Who it's for
Beginner / Amateur Learning controls
Semi-Pro / Professional Casual play, learning to defend
World Class Balanced challenge for most players
Legendary Strong AI that punishes mistakes
Ultimate Toughest AI; very tight defending

Adjust game speed and half length too; longer halves make stats in Career Mode more realistic.
