EA SPORTS FC 27: Complete Launch Guide

What's new and how to play well in FC 27's first weeks: the gameplay changes that matter, new controls, Ultimate Team's rebuilt systems, The Grounds, Career Mode's new transfer market, and PC settings.

Researched September 2026 — current as of the FC 27 launch update (worldwide release September 25, 2026). Live games change; check the linked sources if something differs.

Quick Start

  1. Defend manually. FC 27 reduces AI auto-tackling and AI interception reach in Competitive gameplay, while buffing manual jockey speed and stand-tackle range. If you relied on AI defenders in FC 26, you'll concede more until you adapt.
  2. Aim your through balls. Through passes now follow your directional input strictly, and dinked passes are fully manual (you aim and set power).
  3. Learn Triggered Curved Runs. L1+R1 (LB+RB) bends a teammate's run around defenders. L1+R1+X (LB+RB+A) passes and sends the passer on a curved run.
  4. Attack corners yourself. During the new pre-delivery window you control movement in the box; hold R1/RB to use the new Avoidance mechanic.
  5. In FUT, max PlayStyles+ is three. Down from five. Attributes matter more.
  6. SBCs work differently. Streamlined SBCs let you submit items toward a target score over multiple submissions instead of building full squads.
  7. Play Squad Battles and Rivals for Champions. Champions Qualification Points (CQP) come from both, and the Division 6 requirement is gone.
  8. Career transfers take time now. Deals move through enquiry, negotiation and completion stages across days, so start early in the window.

Gameplay Changes That Matter

Defending

Change What it means
AI auto-tackles reduced Defenders hold position and support until you take control
Manual defending buffed Faster jockey, longer stand-tackle range
Teammate contain adjusted AI teammates mark from further away; you must switch to press
AI interception reach reduced Lazy passes are less likely to be cut out by the AI, and your AI won't bail you out either

Practical tips:

Passing

Dribbling

Off-balance dribbling (PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Switch 2 only): elite dribblers with high Balance, Agility and Dribbling can keep control through stumble animations after contact. Low-rated dribblers lose the ball more.

Attacking Movement

Mechanic Input (PS / Xbox) Use
Triggered Curved Run L1+R1 / LB+RB Bend a teammate's run around a defender
Pass and Follow Run L1+R1+X / LB+RB+A Pass and send the passer on a curved run into space

Manually triggered runs now stop after a limited distance, so re-trigger them. The AI also makes smarter curved runs on its own and avoids crowded areas (Attacking Spatial Awareness).

Corners and Set Pieces

PlayStyles Rebalance

Ten PlayStyles were adjusted: Finesse Shot, Technical Dribbler, Intercept, Rapid, Quick Step, Pinged Pass, Tiki Taka, Jockey, Precision Header and Low Driven. The common direction is a smaller gap between having the PlayStyle and the underlying attributes.

PlayStyle Change
Finesse Shot Attributes play a larger role
Technical Dribbler Smaller gap between base and +
Intercept Players with high Interceptions do better even without it
Rapid / Quick Step Smaller speed boosts; Acceleration matters more
Pinged Pass / Tiki Taka Trap (first-touch) error reduction removed; Tiki Taka also lost its animation speed boost
Jockey Higher sprint acceleration for players without it; smaller PlayStyle exit boost
Precision Header Accuracy gap rebalanced
Low Driven Shot speed boost removed; accuracy boost kept

Takeaway: a card with great stats but fewer PlayStyles is a better buy than it was in FC 26.

Football Ultimate Team (FUT)

Core Changes

New Systems

Feature How it works Why it matters
Streamlined SBCs Pick eligible club items; each contributes score by rating/rarity. Submit in parts; some SBCs allow duplicates and have flexible or no OVR minimums Much less fodder juggling; dump duplicates here
Gallery Records items that pass through your club into themed Sets (Nations, Leagues, Clubs, Campaigns) with grades, even after you sell or submit them Earns cosmetics, Gallery Tokens and Hall of FUT items
Evolution Pathways Branching upgrade choices; preview the whole Evolution chain before committing Plan the attributes and PlayStyles your squad actually needs
PlayStyles Lab Customize PlayStyles on eligible items Fix a key player's missing PlayStyle
Campaign Hub One screen for current Objectives, SBCs, Evolutions and Gallery Sets Easier to track what's live

Modes and Rewards

Mode FC 27 changes
Division Rivals Rewards scale more with Division; Bounties return more often; all pack rewards tradeable; earns CQP
Champions 15-match Finals; qualify with CQP from Rivals and Squad Battles; Division 6 requirement removed
Squad Battles Now a PvE progression path: CQP, more post-match coins, Season Points
Live Events Online and Single Player Live Events rotate seasonally with themed squads and house rules; single-player events from Semi-Pro to Legendary
Post-match rewards End-of-match rewards are now a major part of the economy (more coins per match and Season Points), instead of concentrating rewards in weekly payouts

FUT Starter Plan

  1. Do the starter objectives and Squad Battles first for coins and early packs.
  2. Play Rivals to set your division; better division means better rewards.
  3. Earn CQP from Rivals and Squad Battles, then play Champions.
  4. Feed duplicates and untradeables into Streamlined SBCs; everything you own adds to the Gallery anyway.
  5. Spend on players with strong attributes in your formation's roles, not on PlayStyle+ counts alone.

The Grounds

A new social football space on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Switch 2. A central Terrace hub connects three districts: Montclair, Zeiza and Parkside (inspired by Paris, Buenos Aires and Britain).
