A guide to DiRT Rally 2.0 as it stands in 2026: what still works online after Clubs shut down, how to learn to drive fast without binning the car, pacenotes, setup, career and team management, and which car classes to start with.
Researched September 2026 — current as of the final game build; Racenet Clubs ended on July 8, 2026 (other online modes remain). Live games change; check the linked sources if something differs.
Online status (September 2026): Per the Steam store notice, Clubs are no longer available from July 8, 2026, because the website hosting Racenet Clubs was sunset. Trying to open Clubs in-game gives an error. Time Trial, My Team career events (daily/weekly/monthly), and Quick Play Multiplayer continue to work. EA's online service updates page is the place to check for further changes.
| Mode | Status (Sept 2026) | What it is |

| Custom Championship / Free Play | Works (offline) | Your own events on any location |
| Time Trial | Works | Single stage leaderboards |
| Daily / Weekly / Monthly events | Works | Community challenges inside My Team |
| Quick Play Multiplayer | Works | Online head-to-head rallycross matchmaking |
| Racenet Clubs | Discontinued July 8, 2026 | Private community championships |

Base game rally locations: New Zealand, Argentina, Spain, Poland, Australia and the USA.
Additional rally locations came through the season content and DLC packs (Germany, Finland, Monte Carlo, Sweden, Wales, Greece and Scotland), so the Game of the Year edition or season passes add a lot of variety.
| Location | Surface character |
|---|---|
| New Zealand | Fast, flowing gravel with big crests |
| Argentina | Rough gravel, rocks, water splashes |
| Spain | Tarmac; precision braking |
| Poland | Fast, narrow forest gravel with jumps |
| Australia | Loose, slippery gravel |
| USA (New England) | Tight tarmac and gravel roads through woodland |
Rally cars rotate through weight transfer. Brake in a straight line, ease off the brakes as you turn in (trail braking), and let the rear rotate. Lifting off the throttle mid-corner shifts weight forward and can tighten your line, or snap a rear-drive car around.
| Layout | Behaviour | Technique |
|---|---|---|
| Front-wheel drive | Understeer-prone, stable | Trail brake, use handbrake for hairpins, stay on throttle |
| Rear-wheel drive | Oversteer, power slides | Gentle throttle, counter-steer early, short-shift in low grip |
| Four-wheel drive | Fast, balanced, heavy | Brake early, let the diff pull you through |
Use it for hairpins and tight junctions, not ordinary bends. In 4WD cars, a long handbrake pull fights the drivetrain and kills momentum; use a quick tap to rotate the car and get straight back on throttle (dipping the clutch with it helps if you drive manual).
Gravel stages develop ruts and loose "marbles" off-line as the event progresses. Tarmac can be dusty from cars cutting corners. Rain and wet surfaces drastically reduce grip. Stay on the clean line.
Your co-driver calls corners with a number or descriptor for severity (for example 6 is fast, 1 is very slow, plus "hairpin" and "square") and cues like "don't cut", "over crest", "into", "tightens" and "opens". Tips:
| Class | Why |
|---|---|
| H1 (FWD) | Slow and forgiving; learn lines and pacenotes |
| R2 | Modern FWD; accessible and fun on gravel |
| F2 Kit Car | Fast FWD; good step up |
| R5 / NR4/R4 | Modern 4WD; forgiving grip, very quick |
| Group A | Classic 4WD rally, e.g. the famous Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution and Subaru models |
| Group B (RWD/4WD) | Very powerful, twitchy; tackle later |
| H2/H3 RWD | Great for learning car control once comfortable |
The store page highlights cars such as the VW Polo GTI R5, Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X, Citroen C3 R5 and the Chevrolet Camaro GT4.R.
Change one thing at a time, then drive the same stage again.
| Problem | Try |
|---|---|
| Understeer on corner entry | Softer front anti-roll bar, more rearward brake bias |
| Oversteer on exit (RWD/4WD) | Softer rear springs or anti-roll bar, gentler throttle map/diff |
| Bottoming out on jumps | Raise ride height, stiffen springs or bump damping |
| Car feels nervous at speed | Slightly stiffer setup, less aggressive alignment |
| Running out of gears on straights | Longer final drive |
Are DiRT Rally 2.0 servers still up? Partly. Clubs shut down on July 8, 2026. Time Trial, My Team career (with daily/weekly/monthly events) and Quick Play Multiplayer still work per the Steam store notice. Check EA's service updates page for changes.
Is it good with a controller? Yes, once steering linearity and deadzones are adjusted.
What is the successor? EA SPORTS WRC (released in 2023 by the DiRT Rally team). DiRT Rally 2.0 remains popular for its handling and rallycross.
Which edition should I buy? The Game of the Year Edition includes the season content and extra locations.
Does it support VR? Yes, on PC.
Why did my car break at the end of an event? Accumulated damage and limited service time. Drive cleaner and prioritize critical repairs.
