# Crossout: Beginner-to-Advanced Guide

A practical guide to Crossout, the free-to-play vehicle-building combat MMO: how building actually works (energy, tonnage, the cabin), what modes to play for which rewards, how the market and crafting economy work, and what's live in the **New Horizon** season.

*Researched September 2026 — current as of the "New Horizon" season (started September 3, 2026) and the September 8 small update. Live games change; check the linked sources if something differs.*

> **What's live (late September 2026):**
> - **New Horizon season:** started **September 3, 2026**. Its season and Battle Pass packs are available until **November 25, 2026**.
> - **New parts:**
> - Cabins and movement: **Wildhog** cabin (Legendary) and **MVP Flagship** air cushion (Epic).
> - Weapons: **Smasher** cannon (Epic), **ATGM Cornet** rocket launcher (Legendary) and **AC66 Apogee** autocannon (Legendary).
> - Support: **MPR-8 Slice** radar (Legendary).
> - **"Oracle's echo" event:** runs **September 10 – October 14** and features the Rune-1 ammunition, Hyena track and Split shotgun.
> - **Weekly brawls:** Dronapocalypse runs Sept 24–30, then Thunderous Arena (Oct 1–7) and No Brakes (Oct 8–14). Earlier this season: Feathered Mayhem, No Signal and Blind Fire.
> - **Adventure mode:** Targem announced on **September 14** that it will be **unavailable starting with the next update**, for an unknown period, due to technical reasons. The same post teases major features on the roadmap for upcoming updates.

## Quick Start

1. **Link your Steam and Gaijin accounts early** if you've ever played on a Gaijin account. Follow the official instructions so progress isn't split across accounts.
2. **The cabin is your heart.** It sets your energy, tonnage and max speed. If it's destroyed, you're out.
3. **Energy limits weapons and modules.** Each weapon or module costs energy, and the cabin provides a fixed amount (plus generators). Plan your build around it.
4. **Power Score (PS) decides your matchmaking.** Adding parts raises PS. A bloated build with weak parts gets matched against stronger players.
5. **Protect weapons and the cabin with armor, and put structural parts in front.** Armor in Crossout is physical: shots hit what's in front.
6. **Play PvP missions and PvE raids for resources.** Different modes reward different resources, so pick the one that pays for what you need.
7. **Don't sell every drop.** Some parts are crafting inputs. Check whether an item is a recipe ingredient before you dump it on the market.
8. **Level up factions** (starting with the **Engineers**) to unlock workbenches, parts and cosmetics.
9. **Do the brawls.** Their special challenges hand out paints, stickers, containers and Engineer badges every week.

## Core Building Rules

| Concept | What it means | Tip |
|---|---|---|
| **Cabin** | Core part. Sets energy, tonnage, mass limit and speed | Pick a cabin that fits your plan (light and fast, or heavy and slow) |
| **Energy** | Budget for weapons and modules | Generators add energy. Keep one or two spare for modules |
| **Tonnage / mass** | Heavier vehicles are slower | Stay under the cabin's tonnage limit or you lose speed and handling |
| **Movement parts** | Wheels, tracks, hovers, legs, augers, omniwheels, air cushions | Tracks for heavy brawlers, wheels for speed, hovers for mobility |
| **Weapons** | Machine guns, shotguns, cannons, autocannons, rockets, drones, lances, flamethrowers and more | Two or three weapons of one type share ballistics and are easier to aim |
| **Modules** | Radiators, ammo packs, coolers, radars, cloaking, generators and so on | Coolers help overheating weapons. Ammo packs extend limited-ammo weapons |
| **Structure / armor** | Blocks, bumpers, frames | Put the heaviest armor on the side facing enemies |

**Build habits:**

- **Hide the cabin** in the middle of the vehicle, and spread durability around it.
- **Weapons up top get a clear line of fire** but get shot off first. Guard them with structural parts that don't block your own shots.
- **Use the test drive** in the garage before taking a new build into battle.
- **Keep one reliable "meta" build** for earning resources and one experimental build for fun.

## Modes

| Mode | Type | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| **PvP Missions (Battles)** | Team battles on various maps, with PS-based matchmaking | Scrap and core resources, faction XP, challenges |
| **Raids** | PvE co-op against bots | Resources like wires and plastic, depending on the raid. Great for learning builds |
| **Brawls** | Weekly rotating special modes | Scrap or wires plus special cosmetic challenges |
| **Clan Wars** | Clan-organized competitive play | Strong rewards for organized groups |
| **Adventure** | Open-world mode | **Unavailable starting with the next update**, for an unknown period (per the Sept 14, 2026 announcement) |

**New Horizon additions:**

- **New PvP mission types:** "Precious Driver" and "Squad Battle" (three teams of four) in classic PvP missions, and "Dangerous Cargo" in PvP missions with all movement types.
- **Sandstorm event:** a shrinking safe zone in some classic PvP missions.
- **A redesigned Storage tab** with Market-style filters (upgrades, damage type, tradability) and a favourites tab.

## Economy: Resources, Crafting and the Market

- **Resources:** Scrap Metal, Copper, Wires, Plastic, Batteries and Electronics, plus badges (such as Engineer badges).
- **Crafting:** you build parts at faction workbenches using recipes that combine resources and lower-rarity parts. Crafting higher rarities often needs "fusion" of parts plus resources and a workbench fee.
- **Market:** almost every non-bound item and resource can be traded with other players. Prices move with the season, and meta shifts drive demand.
- **Coins:** the market currency. You can earn them by selling to other players or buy them with real money.

**Economy tips:**

- **Craft first, then compare.** Crafting is often cheaper than buying the finished part, especially at season start when prices spike. Check both.
- **Watch the market's buy and sell orders.** Placing a buy order below the current sell price is usually cheaper than instant-buying.
- **Sell resources you don't need** (such as extra copper or scrap) rather than hoarding them.
- **Don't buy a new Legendary on day one of a season.** Prices typically drop once supply builds.

## Factions and Progression

- **Engineers** are the starting faction and the backbone of progression. Engineer levels unlock core blueprints, and Engineer badges buy useful items.
- **Other factions unlock as you progress:** Lunatics, Nomads, Scavengers, Steppenwolfs, Dawn's Children, Firestarters, Founders and later ones. Each has its own parts style and workbench.
- **Faction reputation** comes from playing battles and the modes tied to that faction. The faction tab shows how each one levels.
- **Rarity tiers:** Common, Rare, Special, Epic, Legendary and Relic. Higher rarity means stronger unique perks, but also a higher PS.

## The Battle Pass and Events

- **New Horizon Battle Pass:** 75 main reward levels plus bonus tiers. Base rewards are free for everyone. Premium tiers need the paid pack, and the **Deluxe** version unlocks recipes instantly and gives **650 bearings**.
- **Oracle's echo:** event experience comes from daily challenges (one main and one additional per day), and uncompleted dailies accumulate. Free rewards include 50 coins, a "Scout's container" (a random legendary, epic or special part), the "Quackstein" decor, workbench coupons and Engineer badges.
- **Twitch Drops:** Cartridges exchange for cosmetics. The most recent campaign ran Sept 3–10, 2026. Unused Cartridges carry over.

**Is the pass worth it?** For regular players it's usually the most value per coin. Buy it early in the season to get the full benefit.

## Beginner Build Directions

These are archetypes to aim for, not exact meta lists.

- **Machine-gun or shotgun brawler on wheels:** easy to build, strong at low PS, and it teaches positioning.
- **Tracked cannon tank:** heavy and slow, with high damage per shot. It teaches angling armor.
- **Hover sniper (cannons or rails):** fragile but mobile. It teaches aim and range control.
- **Drone or turret support:** low aim demand, good in raids.

As you climb, add **radiators or coolers** for sustained-fire weapons, **ammo packs** for cannons and rockets, and a **radar** for spotting.

## Common Mistakes to Avoid

- **Raising your PS with weak parts.** You'll face stronger opponents.
- **Exposing your cabin** or putting all armor on one side.
- **Mixing too many weapon types,** which makes it impossible to aim consistently.
- **Selling crafting ingredients cheaply,** then buying them back higher.
- **Ignoring weekly brawls and their free challenge rewards.**
- **Driving alone** instead of moving with your team.

## Advanced Tips

- **Angle your armor.** Show the enemy your armored corner, not your flat side.
- **Shoot parts, not "the car."** Knock off weapons first to disarm, or target exposed movement parts to cripple.
- **Know the PS brackets.** Many experienced players build right at the top of a PS range for the best matchups.
- **Flip parts on the market between seasons.** Old meta parts often rebound in price when a balance change buffs them.
- **Use the new MPR-8 Slice radar or similar spotting tools** in team play. Information wins fights.

## FAQ

**Is Crossout pay-to-win?**
It's free-to-play. Paid packs speed up progress, but almost everything can be crafted or traded on the market with in-game effort.

**Why am I matched against much stronger vehicles?**
Your Power Score (PS) is too high for your actual strength. Remove weak but expensive parts.

**What happened to Adventure mode?**
Per a September 14, 2026 announcement, it will be unavailable from the next update onward for an unknown period, due to technical reasons.

**How long does the New Horizon season last?**
Its packs and Battle Pass are available through November 25, 2026.

**How do I link my Steam and Gaijin accounts?**
Follow the official linking instructions on the Steam store page. Link before you invest in either account, so progress isn't split.

**What's the best mode to farm resources?**
Raids are consistent for specific resources. PvP missions earn scrap, copper and challenge rewards. Brawls reward scrap or wires depending on the week.
