Crab Game: Complete Guide

A guide to Dani's free party game: how lobbies and hosting work, strategy for each minigame mode, the cosmetics and crate system, and what to expect from a game that hasn't been updated since 2021.

Researched September 2026 — current as of the Christmas Update (December 9, 2021), the last official update. Live games change; check the linked sources if something differs.

Status note: Crab Game is still free and playable on Steam in September 2026, but it has not had an official update since December 2021 (Wikipedia describes development as stalled). The store page still lists up to 35 players, 28 maps and 9 game modes, though the patch notes added more maps and modes after that text was written. Expect no new content, and be aware that some old bugs are unlikely to be fixed.

Quick Start

  1. It's a last-player-standing party game. Everyone competes through rounds of minigames inspired by children's games until one player wins the cash prize.
  2. Join from the server list or make your own lobby. The host picks maps and modes (the "Default" or "Modified" icon in the server list shows whether the host changed the rotation - hover it to see which).
  3. Proximity voice chat is on. People near you can hear you. Mute or adjust it in settings if needed.
  4. Crates are free. You get cosmetic crates as random drops after games (with a daily limit) and from daily quests.
  5. Being toxic reduces your drops. Per the developer, being reported, banned or kicked for bad behavior (or hacking) lowers crate drop rates - but getting kicked by a salty host doesn't count against you.
  6. Private lobbies with friends are the best experience. Public lobbies can be chaotic, and the host has full control over kicking and banning.
  7. Rebind the drop key and tune Input Latency in settings. Lower input latency makes the mouse more responsive at the cost of FPS.
  8. Recycling is permanent. Recycled cosmetics turn into rags and can't be recovered.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  1. Recycling rare items by accident. It can't be undone.
  2. Moving on red in Red Light, Green Light - stop early.
  3. Crowding in survival modes. Crowds get pushed and fall first.
  4. Talking in Hide and Seek. Proximity chat gives away your spot.
  5. Joining random lobbies expecting fair play. Hosts can kick anyone, and public lobbies vary a lot.
  6. Expecting new content. The game hasn't been updated since 2021.
