Cell to Singularity - Evolution Never Ends: Complete Guide
This guide covers how Cell to Singularity's idle loop works: Entropy and Ideas, rebooting for Metabits, the Reality Engine, Nanobots, side simulations, and Explore events. It also covers the big 2026 change, The Future expansion that is now in beta.
Researched September 2026, current as of the post-Reality Reboot build (patch 49.x) with The Future in open Steam beta. Live games change; check the linked sources if something differs.
Heads-up for returning players: The Reality Reboot overhaul (November 2025, built with Octocube Games) redesigned progression and removed the old speculative-future content. That content is coming back as The Future expansion, which went into beta on 1 September 2026. The beta also temporarily removes the old Mars content and moves Singularity further back in progression. If you are in the beta, your save gets converted, so back it up first.
Quick Start
- Click early, idle later. Clicking gives you Entropy for your first generators. Within minutes your generators out-earn your clicks, and from then on your main job is buying the right upgrades.
- Entropy runs Life, Ideas run Civilization. Entropy buys evolutionary generators and research nodes, from single cells up to humans. Once humans have intelligence you start earning Ideas, which fund the technology side (agriculture, industry, information tech and so on).
- Research nodes are the real progress. Generators give you income. Research nodes unlock the next chapter of life or tech and multiply what you already own. When you can afford a node, it is almost always worth more than another generator.
- Rebooting is the prestige. Restarting the simulation pays out Metabits and Knowledge. You spend those in the Reality Engine on permanent upgrades. Since Reality Reboot, you decide when to reboot.
- Get Nanobots working for you. Nanobots automatically buy generators and nodes for you. Reality Engine upgrades such as Nanobot Multibuy and Nanobot Autostart make them much better, and they save more clicking than anything else in the game.
- Darwinium is optional. Darwinium is the premium currency. The core simulation progresses fine without it, and free cubes come from events and redeem codes (Settings > Help > Redeem Code, entered while in the Primary Simulation).
- Play the side simulations for boosts. Mesozoic Valley (dinosaurs), The Beyond (astronomy), and the limited Explore events all give rewards. Explore events often give badges that speed up that event's simulation.
- Keep offline earnings in mind. Close the game with your best income running. Idle time pays.

Life (Entropy)
The Primary Simulation starts before life exists. You buy generators that produce Entropy, then unlock nodes that move evolution forward: single cells, multicellular life, fish, reptiles, mammals, primates, humans. The 2026 updates also added Mollusks and Crustaceans branches. Each new animal you unlock appears in the 3D garden, and most nodes come with a short science fact.
What to buy, in order of priority:
- Research nodes that multiply existing generators come first. A x2 or x3 on your top producer beats almost any single generator purchase.
- Next-chapter nodes come second. They open new, stronger generators.
- Generator levels come third. Buy in bulk (x10/x25/Max) once your income allows.
Civilization (Ideas)
When humans become intelligent, Ideas start flowing. The Civilization track runs through the ages of human technology. In 2026 it was extended with Scientific Revolution II and Industrial Revolution II. Follow the same priorities as Life: multiplier nodes first, new-era nodes second, generator levels last.
After The Future beta, the side panel is reorganised:
- The research tab is split into Evolution and Technology.
- The generator tab merges the old Life and Civilization generator tabs.
- There is a brand-new missions tab.
The side panel and missions
Missions give you short-term goals and rewards. The Future update reworks the mission system so progression feels more directed. If you are unsure what to do next, check the missions tab first.
Rebooting is how you get meaningfully stronger. When you reboot, your simulation resets and you get Metabits and Knowledge to spend in the Reality Engine. That is the permanent upgrade tree, and at the Reality Reboot launch it had over 200 upgrades.
When to reboot: Reality Reboot removed the old fixed reboot points. The usual rule of thumb:
- Reboot when your progress slows down, meaning the next node would take much longer than replaying up to where you are with your new Reality Engine bonuses.
- Your first few reboots can come early. The first Reality Engine upgrades are cheap and speed up every run afterward.
- Check your Time Chamber upgrades before you reboot. Their boosts build up during a run and reset when you reboot. The Time Chamber panel shows how much currency they are adding, which helps you pick a good moment.
What to buy first in the Reality Engine (priority order):
- Production multipliers for Entropy and Ideas. They make everything faster.
- Nanobot upgrades. More intelligence, duration and speed, then Multibuy and Autostart. The mid-2026 Nanobots revamp made these the best quality-of-life upgrades in the game.
- Side-simulation fleets. In July 2026, Nanobots were expanded with Event Simulation Fleet, Mesozoic Simulation Fleet and Beyond Simulation Fleet. These let Nanobots work in Explore events, Mesozoic Valley and The Beyond. This was the first time Nanobots worked in The Beyond at all. If you already owned the old Side Simulation upgrade, you get all three instantly.
- Prediction Matrix nodes. These appear once you have The Future content unlocked in the beta.
Nanobots
Nanobots are little automation drones. While they run, they buy generators and research nodes for you. After the 2026 revamp:
- They have better intelligence (what they choose to buy), duration and speed, all upgraded in the Reality Engine.
- Nanobot Multibuy lets them buy in bulk. Nanobot Autostart starts them automatically, which matters most right after a reboot.
- With the fleet upgrades, they work in every side simulation and Explore event.
To use them well, start them right after a reboot so they rush the early nodes while you watch. Save your manual attention for choosing when to reboot.
Side Simulations
| Simulation |
Theme |
Why play it |
| Mesozoic Valley |
Dinosaur evolution with its own mechanics |
Open geodes to collect Trait Cards that upgrade its generators (check each card's tooltip for its exact effect). Has offline earnings. |
| The Beyond |
Astronomy, from the Sun outward |
Open stars for its own Trait Cards. Content ends at the edge of the observable universe with Beyond E30: Cosmic Horizons (2026), including the Observable Universe and Cosmic Microwave Background generators. Nanobots now work here. |
| Explore events |
Limited-time science themes |
Their own research nodes, generators, Quantum Charges, badges and trophies |
Mesozoic Valley tips
- Open geodes and collect Trait Cards as you go. Read each card's effect and prioritise cards for the generators you rely on most.
- Its offline earnings are separate from the main sim, so keep it progressing between sessions.
The Beyond tips
- The Beyond runs at its own pace and doesn't reset with your Primary Simulation reboots, so let it tick in the background.
- Now that the Beyond Simulation Fleet upgrade exists, it is one of the best-value Reality Engine buys if you have been neglecting The Beyond.
Explore Events (2026)
Explore events are limited-time side simulations with their own garden. Each one has a set of research nodes, a chain of generators, a themed Quantum Charge (a special activatable boost), badges and a trophy node. Recent events:
| Event |
Released |
Highlights |
| Explore: Atmosphere – Upper Bounds |
2 July 2026 |
51 research nodes, six generators for the atmosphere's layers, the Lightning Quantum Charge, and the Cloud and Ozone Layer badges (5% and 10% event speed) |
| Explore: Pregnancy – Life Unfolding |
24 August 2026 |
45 research nodes, ten generators from fertilization to birth, the Baby Bottle Quantum Charge, and the Labor Trophy Node. Has an in-game content warning and is optional. |
Other events mentioned in 2026 patch notes include Explore: Cryptids. The developers ran an Explore Event Survey (closing 21 September 2026) to pick upcoming event topics.
Event tips:
- Buy event badges early. Their speed bonuses stack across the event's badges, so every later node comes faster.
- Save the Quantum Charge for a moment when you have lots of generators to benefit from it.
- Buy the Event Simulation Fleet in the Reality Engine so Nanobots can play events for you.
The Future Expansion (Beta, September 2026)
Announced in the 30 July 2026 "Visions of the Future" dev diary and opened to Steam beta testers on 1 September 2026:
- Beyond the Emergent age, you Breach the Future and unlock five story branches ("visions"). Each vision adds a new generator, its own speculative nodes, and a new garden. The first vision covers the future of space, starting with the new Lunar garden.
- Singularity moves further back in progression, after all five visions.
- The old Mars content is temporarily removed while the developers build a Moon-to-Mars space exploration arc.
- The Reality Engine gets new nodes, including the Prediction Matrix.
How to join on Steam: Right-click the game > Properties > Betas, enter the code cellsbetatest, click Check Code, then opt in. The developers say your save converts automatically and recommend a backup first. At the time of the announcement, the mobile beta was rolling out separately (TestFlight on iOS, a form on Android).
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Buying generator levels when a multiplier node is affordable. Nodes nearly always win.
- Never rebooting. A lot of players stall for days at a wall. A reboot with a few Reality Engine upgrades usually gets you past it much faster.
- Rebooting too eagerly late-game. Once your Time Chamber boosts have built up, resetting throws them away. Check the Time Chamber panel first.
- Ignoring Nanobots. They remove most of the micro-management. Upgrade them early.
- Spending Darwinium on small conveniences. Save it for things that last, such as stackable shop upgrades like the Land Boost added in patch 49.33.
- Joining The Future beta without a backup. Your save gets converted, so back up first.
- Missing redeem codes. Codes have end dates. For example, PAXWEST2026 (25 Darwinium) was only valid until 21 September 2026.
Advanced Tips
- Plan reboots around big unlocks. Rebooting just before a very expensive chapter node is often faster than grinding to it.
- Use Nanobot Autostart and Multibuy together so the first minutes of each run need no input.
- Rotate your attention. Keep the Primary Simulation running, then check Mesozoic Valley, The Beyond and the current Explore event in turn. Each has its own rewards and offline progress.
- Read patch notes for balance changes. The developers adjust boosts often. Time Chamber boost values, for example, have been tuned in past patches. Something that was optimal last month might not be now.
- Badges matter more than they look. Badge speed bonuses apply to the whole event, so getting them early shortens everything after.
