Call of Duty: Warzone: Survival & Win Guide

How Warzone works in the Black Ops 7 era, what to prioritise from drop to final circle, and the habits that get you more wins in Battle Royale and Resurgence.

Quick Start

1. Last-gen is on the way out. Activision is ending PS4 and Xbox One support and delisting those versions during 2026; if you're on last-gen, check the official Call of Duty support page for your platform's cut-off date and plan a move to PC/PS5/Xbox Series.
2. Your custom loadout is the real "loot". Get cash, buy a Loadout Drop (or grab a public one), and switch to your own guns as fast as possible.
3. Armor plates are your health bar. Always carry a full plate stack and replate behind cover immediately after a fight.
4. Use the Gulag. Your first death in standard Battle Royale sends you to a 1v1 in the Gulag; win to redeploy.
5. Resurgence is the best place to learn. Small map, fast respawns while your squad is alive, constant fights.
6. Do contracts. They pay cash, reveal information and speed you to your loadout.
7. Buy a UAV once you have spare cash; information wins more fights than aim.

• Doom crossover event from September 24, with Doom-themed cosmetics including the Doom Slayer operator and Doom Guy skins.
• New Battle Pass featuring Blackjack, new weekly-challenge weapons, and a Black Ops 7 camo event.

Core Mechanics

Health, armor and plates

• You have base health plus up to three armor plates (with a standard vest). Broken plates must be replaced manually.
• Plate carriers (vests) change how many plates you carry or how fast you plate. Pick one up early.
• Replate in cover. The half-second you save by fighting unplated gets you killed.

Cash and Buy Stations

Cash comes from ground loot, supply boxes, eliminations and contracts. Spend it at Buy Stations on:

Loadouts

• A loadout has a primary, secondary, perks, lethal and tactical. The Overkill-style option lets you carry two primaries.
• The common structure is one long-range weapon (AR/battle rifle/LMG/sniper) + one close-range weapon (SMG/shotgun).
• Gunsmith your weapons in the main menu before you drop. Prioritise recoil control on long-range guns and ADS/sprint-to-fire speed on SMGs.
• Black Ops Royale (Black Ops 7's Blackout-inspired mode) works differently: no fixed loadouts, you scavenge attachments and consumable perks. Treat it as its own ruleset.

The Gulag

• Standard Battle Royale: your first death sends you to the Gulag. Win to redeploy; lose and you need a teammate to buy you back. (The Gulag format, 1v1 or 2v2, has changed between seasons; the HUD tells you which is live.)
• Weapons are fixed per round; you can't bring your loadout.
• Gulag closes later in the match; check the HUD.

Resurgence

• Smaller maps (Rebirth Island, Haven's Hollow).
• You respawn on a timer as long as at least one squadmate is alive. The timer gets longer as the match progresses.
• Eliminations and contracts reduce your squad's respawn timer.
• Late in the match, respawns turn off; the final circles play like regular BR.

Contracts

Recon early in the match is the best-value contract for planning rotations.

Vehicles

Vehicles are loud and show up on UAVs. Use them to rotate across open ground, then ditch them before you reach the next position. Tempered/armored perks and launchers change how safe vehicles are; don't drive into the final circles.

Battle Royale Game Plan

Drop

• Drop at a medium-traffic area near a Buy Station. Hot drops are fun but inconsistent.
• Loot ground weapons, plates, cash. Aim for a Loadout Drop within the first circle or two.

Mid game

• Rotate early, along the circle edge. Getting into the next circle first gives you the best buildings and angles.
• Buy UAVs and keep one teammate on the minimap.
• Don't third-party blindly. Wait for one team to win the fight, then push the survivors while they're replating.

Endgame

• Hold power positions (roofs with cover, compounds with multiple exits).
• Use your remaining cash on Self-Revives, UAVs and killstreaks.
• Gas masks buy you time to rotate late.
• Don't reveal yourself in the final two circles unless you need to take a position.

Settings Worth Changing

Settings names and presets shift between CoD years; look for the equivalents in the current menu.

Weapon Meta (how to find it)

The meta changes every season and often mid-season. Rather than trusting a static list:

• Read the official Season 06 patch notes for weapon balance lines (damage range, recoil, movement changes).
• Pair a stable long-range weapon with a fast SMG; that shape stays good even as specific guns change.
• Test new guns in a private match or the firing range before taking them into ranked.

Ranked Play

• Warzone Ranked Play uses Battle Royale with limited squad sizes and a Skill Rating that rises with placements and kills.

• Driving vehicles into the final circles.
• Spending all cash on killstreaks instead of Self-Revives and redeploys.
• Pushing through open ground where every roof sees you.

Advanced Tips

• Audio: Stop and listen at doors and stairs; footsteps give away positions before the minimap does.
• Break line of sight before replating or reloading.
• Crossfire your teammates: two angles on one enemy beats both of you peeking the same doorway.
• Save Recon contracts until right before a rotation.
• Resurgence respawn timing: Push when the enemy's squad is split, but only if your respawn timer is short enough to recover.
• Use pings constantly; they're faster than voice for enemy positions.
• Buy back teammates as soon as possible; a full squad in the late game is worth any amount of cash.
